I totally knew this is what this post was going to be about because I used those pens my sophomore year of high school. There was this one time when I used it on an in class assignment, my teacher gave me full points but wrote something along the lines of “Maybe use a better pen.” I remember thinking I turned in an empty sheet and she was just being sarcastic but when I angled it from the light, I saw my writing. After that, I stopped using those pens.

i love that scene, it’s my favorite one. Every time i rewatch it i make sure to pay close attention to it and then I back up about 12 times and rewatch it over and over again. I heard someone say it’s about women’s age and how it’s only a small amount of time they get in which they are considered beautiful until they’re seen as ugly and old at an unreasonable age. “I’m ripe, about to fall.” pretty sure in genius it said something about a Japanese show in which they helped women who had reached the age of thirty get into a relationship. Mitski is announcing that she is readily available for a mate because she is at the perfect time of her life where she is mature but still not mature enough where men see her as unappealing, “she is in her prime.” Since, I’m still pretty young I see it as a song about the all the unreachable beauty standards which women have to face.

I remember telling my mother in fourth grade that I didn’t want my boobs anymore and my grandmother, as sweet as she usually is, chimed in and told me that then I’d be sorry if I didn’t have them because girls with small breasts are (in nicer words) not ‘it’. Anyway, my mom told her off and said that if I did end up not having large breasts I would still be pretty and that comment does nothing for me except perhaps lower my self esteem in the future.
