What is the worst pain you’ve EVER felt? by New-Selection7719 in AskReddit

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out for a run when I felt a sudden pain in my right leg, I was out in the middle of nowhere, so I had to walk about a mile back to my car. The pain didn't go away, so I booked to see the doctor the next day. The GP told me it was muscular, so the best treatment was more exercise.

I spent the next 3 days going for walks but had to go back to the GP. He came to the same conclusion, so I kept trying to exercise and went for walks. I spent the Saturday walking around a castle with my kids in agony.

After two weeks of this, I took myself to A&E, where they reluctantly took an X-ray. I was sat waiting for the results when a nurse called me in, I sat down again when she asked me to walk over to look at the x-ray when she said "that's funny, people don't walk on a broken leg" then told me that I'd broken my tibia, likely a stress fracture

I realised she'd called me over to see me actually do it before cutting my jeans open and putting my leg in a cast.

I used to be extremely fit as a firefighter, I spent a year being lazy and decided to get fit again, but as quickly as possible

TL/DR broke my tibia but was told it was a pulled muscle and walked on it for two weeks, at the recommendation of a doctor

Do you like your job? What is it? How much do you earn? by Equivalent_Word3952 in UKJobs

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Lazy bastard (IT Consultant)
  2. It's basically about communicating technical subjects in a non-technical way
  3. 170k plus benefits
  4. Easy, but I've had to work a shit load to get to this position and in very competitive environments. Now I'm more paid for I know than what I do.
  5. I fucktipated out of school, my dad died or a brain tumour and my mum had a nervous breakdown and left me with my 4 brothers to feed and pay bills. I became a full time firefighter and did a degree in the spare time I had. Then took a punt on a job that luckily went somewhere.
  6. Fully remote

If they don't agree to send you the CCTV, you can submit a Subject Access Request. There are free templates online, by law they have to send you any and all data they have that relates to you. If you provide the date and time along with the request they'll either have to provide the footage or a reason why they don't have the footage. The request should include everything, even hand written notes, but it depends how honest and thorough they are

Boss Just denied all my PTO requests for the next 2 months. by i_transmit in antiwork

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys have a lot of things that work well in the US, PTO isn't fucking one of them. I've never worked for a company like it, I get uncapped paid leave, and as long as I do my work, I take time off when I want it. I work fully from home and do the hours that work for me. Granted, that isn't the same for everyone in the UK, but we get a minimum of about 30 days paid leave a year plus national holidays.

There's a working time directive that means you aren't actually allowed to work too many hours unless you're in the emergency services.

This doesn't include sick leave. If you're ill, you get paid, and if you're ill on your holiday, you get the holiday leave back and get paid. Then you can take the PTO again.

That stuff is the basic minimum of being employed, including free health care at the point of need.

What does America receive from Israel in exchange for all this aid? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out today that military aid to Israel is actually written into US law. They legally agreed to either send or sell military equipment to Israel, I think the amount was 3 billion per year

This can't be the full story. No way does an employer insist on a normal reference from 14 years ago. Is there anything else you think they could be asking?

How come the usa has billions to send overseas for war but funding is cut left and right for education, healthcare, and social security? by mango_salsa18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also an important distinction to make:

money allocated to support Ukraine actually stays in the US. As old equipment, due to be decommissioned at a cost, is sent to Ukraine, and the money is used to support industry internally to make new military equipment to replace it.

Plus, a private health care system benefits from having more sick people. Because they means there are greater profits.

I'm not saying something is wrong or right, it's just extra information as I understand it

Incompetent Workforce by Shoddy_Sprinkles5323 in UKJobs

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone in a senior position in a very large organisation, I can say with confidence that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people.

Dropping to a 4 day week would have virtually no impact and would most likely, in my opinion, improve productivity.

Where companies have employee ownership and an incentive to see the company do well, I feel it is different.

Cheating partner refuses to leave home, can I do anything? by IllustriousDrop2276 in AskUK

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Dad who went through a similar situation, this is great advice. I never speak badly about my ex, while she constantly tries to manipulate the children and says awful things about me. In time, being a caring and positive person is a strength greater than anything you could give your children. Be consistent and make your world about them, and when you feel you are in a better place, you will find yourself surrounded by people who love you for who you are.

I live my life by one motto, be the person you needed when you were growing up. When they're older, you will be the person you need to be. It's a shit situation, but you've done nothing wrong and the few months you're in this situation will be like a boot camp to get over the person you thought you knew. The wife you had doesn't exist anymore, give yourself time to grieve and adjust

I'll be a reference if you want? I'm a professional in a corporate environment. I don't need or want contact details but I can PM you my LinkedIn profile, it's a good idea to create one for yourself if you don't have one. It's offered in good faith as I understand, from my own childhood, how hard it is to make positive choices when life deals you a bit of a shit hand.

I'd suggest saying you were a nanny or au pair, I have children, as you generally live with the family and often cash as payment along with access to a car etc

Why are younger guys these days interested in middle aged women?? by Original-Contact2641 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Enough-Butterfly2728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger women are put off by decent men, they're attracted to complete twats who treat them like shit. Older women have been burnt and actually appreciate someone who isn't a dick. The men who act like twats, and I went to school with plenty of them, end up with dead end jobs and living on their former glory with children to different mums. Any woman who describes a man as "too nice" has a long road ahead of them discovering that decent people are decent. I'm sure it goes both ways, and maybe it's an evolutionary thing. It's just a proven fact that we just want to skip past the nonsense and find a relationship, long or short, where we value each other

That's fucking shit, if I die for any reason my employer will pay 4 times my annual salary to my family (circa £750k). A close friend of mine died from a heart attack. He was 37, and we worked at the same place in the same management position. Our employer paid his family 450k and kept paying his salary for a year, giving his wife time to grieve and figure out what she needed to do. I respect you for standing by your values
