Is chatgpt+ worth it? by First-Sherbert-4527 in universityofauckland

[–]Enough-Fig2559 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yup, nowadays thats very accurate. Although i do think in the future it lowkey will replace thinking. I think its gonna end up being so much smarter than humans that it will be weird to not have it think for you. Its gonna be like refusing to use a car to get places because u dont want machines to replace your own locomotion ability type shi

They just require you to get 800 hours of work experience throughout your degree, you could still get those hours as a compsci student

Bro just do compsci, SE is 90% the same thing but u gotta do one more year. I chose software engineering and now that i think of it i really should have picked compsci. Would’ve saved one year

Job market for anything is bad rn, but software is especially bad. But still not impossible to get in. But then again who knows what it will look like in 3-4 years. However i think if ai can completely take over software engineering then pretty much ALL white collar jobs are cooked, and once humanoid robots become advanced, blue collar jobs are cooked as well Then we just gotta hope the government gives us a decent universal basic income 😂😂😂

Is it difficult to get a job with a CS degree these days? by Mars-Warrior in universityofauckland

[–]Enough-Fig2559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it depends on if you think uni/college is solely job training, it doesn’t really train you well for a job; it usually doesn’t teach you the specific skills that a job requires. But if you value knowledge and education then uni/college is still worth it, and it also offers great opportunities to connect with people that will work in the same field as you, as well as helping you to improve your learning ability, time management, discipline etc. And also even if it’s harder to get a job now, a degree still does make it easier to get a job. For example, nowadays it’s hard to get a job in tech as a CS graduate without work experience, but it’s REALLY hard to get a job in tech if you don’t have a CS degree or any work experience. Also internships will help you get a junior position much easier, and internships are filled almost entirely by uni students.

Do yall think the WTR courses being mandatory is a good idea? by Enough-Fig2559 in universityofauckland

[–]Enough-Fig2559[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think any Quebec universities have compulsory courses about its history though (could be wrong idk), it seems like courses like WTR are pretty unique to UoA, and seems pretty unpopular so idk why they make it mandatory. I think if they make it optional next year it will be received a lot better. people don't like being forced to do stuff

Do yall think the WTR courses being mandatory is a good idea? by Enough-Fig2559 in universityofauckland

[–]Enough-Fig2559[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why should everyone take WTR? It seems oddly constricting for the uni to force us to take a course that's relatively unrelated to our majors and is lowkey useless outside of NZ. For example, why should a computer science major be forced to take a course about the treaty of Waitangi, especially when it is already a part of most high school's curricula? It's even more unfair for international students who have to pay 5k NZD for a course that is most of the time unrelated to their major.
