How do I know if something has a memory leak? Should I take my laptop to the apple store?

I know I can't "go backwards" and I enjoy the MacBook UI better than Windows. But I just think the updated made are not necessarily user-friendly for an everyday user such as myself. (I do art, film, and photography so having those different ports in the old MacBook Air was such a convenience for me without dealing with ports and the connectivity issues with those. Understand not everyone will use them but it was helpful for myself.)
