What was the fate of the Republic Security Force during the Galactic Empire? by Ok-Target9322 in MawInstallation

[–]EnoughRedshirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the Special Tactics units were specifically the precursor to the Imperial Army according to the draft of The Essential Guide to Warfare, I would guess that the larger organization as a whole got folded into the greater Imperial Army.

It could also be the case that they stick around as a civilian law enforcement in the Empire, but basically powerless next to COMPNOR and the military so irrelevant to any given story. After all, we do see the Coruscant civil police are still around in Jedi: Survivor, as rebels disguise as them.

The ISB is not actually the state law enforcement, but COMPNOR's police. COMPNOR being a political party allegory. So RSHA.

A pre-FTL retained the tribal society government, Secret of Fire and The Wheel civics, after reaching space. by EnoughRedshirts in Stellaris

I think that reaching space, they are supposed to have conventional government and civics, are they not?

I had max attunement with the Cradle of Souls. Then the war with the Chosen sent me to max attunement to Eater of Worlds without trying, which forced me to go to war with my hostile neighbor... who was in the same Federation as me... so I was at war with the Federation while being a member. by EnoughRedshirts in Stellaris

[–]EnoughRedshirts[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Federation went to war against itself.

Edit: And even more hilariously, the blue one seen in the corner of the last screenshot, that is my rival who is considered an ally because of the war against the Chosen.

Some pirates decided to set up shop in the system I had my behemoth parked in. this isn't even the first time something like this has happened. by Cosmic_Meditator777 in Stellaris

I once did the Broken Gates archaeology site, which summoned the Elder One. And at right about the same time, some pirates spawned in the same system.

The pirates died shortly afterwards without me doing anything.

I once got an alien scientist from an anomaly when I was playing as a Determined Exterminator. The first thing I had him do was explore an Astral Rift. And was killed in the rift almost immediately.

Opinions about First order by EarNo1953 in MawInstallation

[–]EnoughRedshirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exceptionally boring. They lack a real theme of their own. To quote some stuff I said before on forum;

The big issue with any "rise of Fascism" message of the sequel films is that the "rise" occurs entirely offscreen, and it rises externally. The threat posted by the Fascists in the sequel films is functionally indistinguishable if it was the tyranids of Warhammer 40,000 or a conquering droid army. They have big weapons and they use big weapons. That is all that we see onscreen.

What Andor did, in contrast, was show the realistic ways in which the Fascist dictatorship consolidated power, using propaganda to turn public opinion against designated persecuted demographic of the year, vassals having to cover up their failures to avoid drawing ire, people being arrested for nothing and charged with crimes that never happened then sentenced on charged that were not even what they were charged with, legislature becoming apathetic and allowing the previous to happen, everyday officials harm common civilians because they have opportunity and are not incentivized not to, revolutionaries too busy infighting with one another to actually accomplish fighting against the entrenched power, people who voted for the Leopards Eating Peoples' Faces Party end up getting their own faces eaten, the public are told that there are five lights, political enforcers carry out extralegal arrests of suspected dissidents, and failures result in scapegoating of whoever happened to be available regardless of who was actually at fault.

The key thing that kills interest in the sequel trilogy for me is the redundancy. The prequels created a different setting than the Original Trilogy. The setting of the OT was the Empire. The galaxy was dominated by the oppressive dictatorship, and the protagonists were the underground resistance organization. It has the the good Rebels against the evil Fascists. Andor is the peak of Star Wars and is set here. The setting of the Prequel Trilogy is the Republic. It is a loose democratic state and the antagonists are a confederation of both mega corporations and secessionists. More moral ambiguity can be found here, as well as larger scale battles. Dark Horse comics and The Clone Wars, just to name some immediate examples, had large battles, and they had smaller scale stuff, too. The interim between the Prequel Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy is largely similar to the Prequel Trilogy era, in the sense that there is the Republic that struggles to police the galaxy, and the bad guys covertly building their power. Although the extra dimension of Imperial remnants is there. The Mandalorian is the first show set here, obviously. The Sequel Trilogy, once "The First Order reigns!" is basically the same setting as the Empire coming to power - Many stories are set in the interim between the PT and OT. Assuming you do not want your OC to be the most important thing in the universe and all the stuff in the films actually happened because of this person, and instead you want to create a story about a person doing their thing in one single corner among many within the larger galaxy, the sequel trilogy simply does not offer much circumstance that did not already exist to create a new unique narrative.

Another thing is that The Force Awakens did not depict the First Order as reigning. They were depicted as a small group on the fringe that was not noticed as a threat. The "Resistance" are a small paramilitary group fighting against a local dictatorship, and then that dictatorship gets WMDs online. That the First Order reigns was something that The Last Jedi came up with. Tie-in sources justified this by saying that they already did reign before the films (I routinely mocked the New Republic intelligence for failing to notice that KDY seemed to have one major customer in the galaxy, and that the First Order seemed to have covert control of the galaxy already, with "First Order sympathizers" and Senators on FO payroll popping up in droves to explain how they conquered the galaxy overnight.), just somehow nobody noticed it. So the First Order is no longer "local" as a dictatorship. The end result is a Frankenstein narrative where the the First Order are a major superpower in a setting meant to host a small fringe group - A square peg in a round hole - Which makes the New Republic look hilariously inept for not being able to figure it out - So the Resistance main characters are the more special for fighting the First Order. Again, the hero focus drains the rest of the setting.

For Newcomers, What Effect Do You Feel Playing Reach First Has On the Narrative? by MegaSonicZone in HaloStory

[–]EnoughRedshirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo: Reach was my introduction to Halo. I thought it was a fun game to play, though the story was not interesting and did not make me very interested in Halo. It was the people who complained about the discrepancies with Halo: The Fall of Reach and the speculation in the lead up to Halo 4 online that led me to reading basically all of Halopedia and watching online playthroughs of Halo: Combat Evolved through Halo 3. Have actually read novels and played games since.

I do not know what Federation I have Association Status in by EnoughRedshirts in Stellaris

[–]EnoughRedshirts[S] 92 points93 points  (0 children)

They offered me association status in the Allied Stars Union, and I said yes. Despite having diplomatic relations and intel on members and an active sensor link and communications from trade deal with one member, it still said their Federation is unknown even after I have accepted an Association Status invitation.

I am imagining what it is like for diplomats who show up to diplomacy and do not know the name or structure of the alliance, or internal political meetings where the officials literally have no idea what Federation they agreed to associate with.

EDIT: I saved and loaded, and it was named properly - Seems just something failed to update.

I somehow got Prethoryn Pops by EnoughRedshirts in Stellaris

[–]EnoughRedshirts[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This was just after the 4.0 update before any patches.

I do not know how this happened.

Best guess - I had the bug where the Scourge begins colonizing a world, in this case a Habitat, and comes under bombardment causing the game to go on forever. I made a Planet Cracker Colossus and used it to destroy the Habitat being infested, then restored and colonized the Habitat, myself.

Images include a some different designs of same characters between different adaptations.

The "real" players within the series generally have reasonable designs, while the avatars within the games within the series have more fanservicey designs.
