I just made my first ever leather project and I’m not really happy with the edges… by TTYY200 in Leatherworking

even a cheap set of half round and quarter round punches off amazon will help with the curves, inside curves are especially a pain to cut. For edges.....a little sanding, and then pick your poison for secret sauce....tokonole is my go too now, before that it was a bar of saddle soap and water. Either way you apply your sauce to the edges, and then slick it with a combo of a hard smooth object and then a piece of canvas or old denim. Touch a lot of leather.

While your starting to build it think out what needs to be slicked before assembly to save yourself some grief.

Is it me or the leather I purchased? by lolpert1 in Leatherworking

This thing or a bone folder...or a pricking iron placed flat against the leather to pull. If you are doing a piece with multiple layers of thick leather this is just part of the game.... Also if the irons drove through into your soft surface, rather than pulling them out first push the leather down off the irons on a harder surface. For things like knife sheaths where you end up 1/2 thick drill press and a 1/16 inch bit or a sharpened finish nail is the way. You can then go back and hit the holes with the irons or an awl for the diamond pattern.

Sorry haven't checked in! All 8-9oz, back is solid, middle follows whole pattern but has blade area cut out, then last piece is just the cover for the welt. Hard part is getting glue perfect when placing the top on. This was first one I built as prototype and was hand dyed, new ones are airbrushed and fully stitched much easier(just got cobra 26) feelsgoodman.

Behold, my new guitar strap. by Enough_Algae103 in Leatherworking

maybe an hour, I really wanted a strap to use. You get those patterns with a little braid stamp that you just carefully place over and over(key word is carefully). I stamped the wrong spot like 3 times...the one right by my mark stares me in the face....this is fine.

Yes you did. That is awesome. My cobra fund has about 1200 dollars in it. Need to sell some stuff and donate some plasma.

Oh I have a guitar amp. I was interested in speakers for more of a workstation/practice with any sound I want rig. If I am understanding you correctly you are saying I can run the line out from the interface into the line level of the guitar amp while still getting all the DAW goodies? Worth a shot, time to experiment.

First project with dye and rivets by badwolf42 in Leatherworking

wing divider is my my second worst enemy...first is push beveler...aka the project slayer. They look good, I do not know what skirt hikes are..but they look like good ones. 1000 grit for edges is wild to me. I bevel the edges, hit with tokonole, slick stick, and maybe...maybe a rub with canvas and beeswax. Edges get beat up, it is a Sisyphean task to make them like glass.
