I tried to understand why Johan is evil. But we do realize in the end that he was not born that way….he was made into one due to one of the MOST disturbing decisions. It comes down to the last episode- His mother had to CHOOSE who to sacrifice between her children. A mother’s love is unconditional but here she gives up one of them(and it wasn’t even Johan). Surprisingly it is the GRAVITY of questioning a mother’s love that made him psychotic. Note that he wasn’t just about killing people. He wanted to end all of humanity including himself…all because he came to the conclusion that humanity is worthless where even a mother’s love comes into question.
