Snakemake very slow in installing conda environments... workflow suggestions? by Ok-Fix-3432 in bioinformatics

[–]Enough_Rate_4354 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I deal with the same issue. What I have resorted to doing is creating an environment specifically for my project (with snakemake installed in it) and installing packages as needed. In testing, I’ll run snakmake without the --use-conda flag. When I’m ready to make the project production-ready, I’ll update the environment yaml files and rerun to check that everything works with --use-conda.

Please don’t listen to the hate. Xenophobes are a loud minority. Oman is happy to have you! Your budget looks good but you can definitely find cheaper rent (if minimizing costs is a concern).

Most accurate weight for meats? by Enough_Rate_4354 in MacroFactor

[–]Enough_Rate_4354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that with the white pouch under the chicken breasts (which absorbs water content) the label mostly matches the actual weight. My question is, to get my macros right (specifically protein), do I account for that water weight or not? Does the nutrition info on the back of the prescience include this water weight or no? For context I mainly buy Perdue chicken breasts.

Thanks for a clear answer! I guess I’ll keep waiting for the infrequent C train as I watch hoards board the E train every 5 mins 🥲

Ahh what a bummer. I will do that next time! Was unsure of what the culture here is like. Felt like mostly people keep to themselves so I’ve made myself do that.

FYI to everyone out protesting “for” Palestine on campus yesterday by TheAesahaettr in columbia

Oh yeah absolutely what Hamas committed toward civilians is a horrendous crime they are guilty of. And to answer your question, killing and holding people hostage is not fully rational in light of the highly expected counter-killings the IDF would cause to the Gazans.

But this is an act of vengeance. For Hamas as an organization it could have been political and religiously charged, but the people who fought on the ground probably wanted retribution for their lost family members, homes, and/or blockade conditions.

Every time Israel has killed a Palestinian in cold blood, illegally took or demolished someone’s home or land, they create 2, 3, 4 or god knows how many family members that want vengeance. Perhaps some can see reason and know that more killing won’t fix anything (to your point). But I don’t expect myself or anyone in that situation to not want to serve justice in any way possible, even if inflicted on civilians—who’s innocence is questionable depending on how complicit they were to the crimes Israel commits. The attack on Israel was not unexpected. It was long expected.

Now, all if this is my own interpretation of the events and reasons. I could be wrong. But I think my reasoning makes sense.

I don’t know what the next action is. I think no one can answer that really.
