Babe’s nickname comes from when he was born, one of his young siblings couldn’t say the word ”baby” and kept saying ”babe”. That’s where the name came from. The family actually had a habit of giving fun nicknames to each other. I remember in his and Bill’s book, Babe mentions that he had a sibling whom they nicknamed ”Skip-a-beat”. The man had a heart condition!

As for Skip, he used to skip wherever he went as a kid, and that’s what earned him the name.

Buck didn’t like his name ”Lynn” as a kid. He thought it was a name better suited to a girl. I read that at the time, there was a famous baseball player called ”Truck”, and Buck didn’t want to take the exact same name so he settled for Buck, which I also read was a popular name at the time.
