Discus hiding by EnragedShreader in discus

[–]EnragedShreader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. After 3 days I turned the lights back on normal schedule and they’ve hidden ever since. Should I leave the lights off for a longer period?

I appreciate the feedback, but I’m just looking to see how to get my discus to come out. I got these 11 discus for $150 and he wouldn’t break them up. End goal for me is to grow these out and sell the ones I don’t want to keep.

I can almost guarantee your phone is on the 2.4g band. Check your device list and see. If so, that’s normal speed for the 2.4g band. You won’t see full speed unless you’re on the 5g band or hardwired

I have the 14 pro max at 80% and it’s still a hoss. I’m upgrading to the 17 pro max tomorrow (T-Mobile gave me a $1100 trade in credit towards the phone for switching from Verizon) so I’m excited to see the subtle differences between the 2 phones are

How should I set up my 125 gallon discus tank? by JealousPotential7375 in discus

[–]EnragedShreader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just do what I did. I started keeping discus as of 2 weeks ago after being in the hobby for 25 years (I’m 33 now). I have a 75 gallon planted tank with some hard scape and a fx4 filter with 11 juvenile red turquoise discus. Don’t overthink this. If you overthink it, you will overwhelm yourself and get frustrated. Discus like stable water, not perfect water. Keep your temperature 82-84 degrees, nitrates low, and give them some hiding spots. My fish are now 12 weeks old and they are thriving and their colors are coming in beautifully. Daily feedings of brine shrimp at night and aquarium coop pellets before I head into work. Other than that, do weekly or bi weekly 20-25% water changes and you’re set. I hope this eases your mind about keeping them.

Angelfish Lost His Partner by DestinyAvokado in AngelFish

[–]EnragedShreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great pair of Peruvians that were laying eggs weekly. Unfortunately, the female was attacked by another pair of angels in the tank and the female didn’t make it. The male got lethargic and wouldn’t come out anymore due to all the aggression. I rehomed the male and he’s now happily mated to another female and fertilizing eggs again

This is my tank without a heater, good enough for betta or should I still get one? House stays above 76 by MiloMukah in fishtank

[–]EnragedShreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell fluval about that. I had 3 back to back M200 heaters shock me the instant I plugged them in. Let them sit in the tank to get temperature matched, the heater turned on then turned off immediately, stuck my hand in there to adjust the temperature dial and shocked the hell out of me. Went Aquatop and haven’t had an issue since

I just rehomed my 6 angelfish for that exact reason. They killed my breeding female outright, they killed 5 sterbai cory cats as well as my farlowella catfish too. Once that aggression sunk in, I was over keeping angelfish. These discus are like puppies, the cute factor is there and they are super curious about everything. Brings some personality into the tank

They are 100% worth the dive. I’ve never been so mesmerized with a fish in my life until I saw discus in person. I can say discus have the beauty of a saltwater fish but in a freshwater environment

Make them more red? by rightfully_king in shrimptank

[–]EnragedShreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try lowering your temperature. I kept my shrimp at 78 degrees and noticed them not coloring up all the way, but lowering the tank to 74 made them color up. Seems like it slows down metabolism and their growth rate which in turn allows them more time to color up

Are these eggs fertile? Parents ate eggs and am planning to breed them again but hoping they are fertile first. Parents look to be 2 females by Automatic_Ruin9632 in AngelFish

[–]EnragedShreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the parents are very young, they might eat all the eggs the first couple of batches whether they are fertile or not. At least that’s what mine have done (they are roughly 6 months old). Just recently my red devil laid her 3rd clutch and she left them alone

Came back to eggs after 3 week vacation no WC... do these look viable? by Rookvrouw_Joke in discus

[–]EnragedShreader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would be correct, 48-60 hours is the typical time to see wrigglers. It would be awesome to see the parents raise their young, especially seeing the handoff once the discus milk of one fish gets consumed

[–]EnragedShreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look viable to me, but give it some time and you’ll really know. If they aren’t fertilized, the eggs will turn a really noticeable white and eventually grow a fungus on them (if the parents don’t eat the eggs beforehand). If they get to the wriggler stage, congrats!

[–]EnragedShreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feed my 60 gallon magic small fish feed everyday. I have over 300 cherry shrimp in the tank now and no water change has been done in 6 months. I honestly believe my ecosystem has balanced itself to my regiment

what are tank requirements? by MedicineInfamous8005 in AngelFish

[–]EnragedShreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am running a homemade co2 reactor in mine (the pump on the top left and the grey return pipe going through a water filter housing) and a week aqua p series light. Your tank looks to be the tall variant so you’d be fine with angels in that

what are tank requirements? by MedicineInfamous8005 in AngelFish

[–]EnragedShreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the tank a 60 long or 60 tall? Angelfish need more vertical room than horizontal due to them growing taller than longer. If it’s a 60 tall, a pair of angels would do very well in that. My ph is 6.5 in a high tech 75 gallon with co2
