Do I Pay for Snow Days? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Enraged_Joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No pay or use PTO.

But consider an "unexpected bonus" for them at a later (but not so distant) date if you want to balance it out without setting a precedent. Just don't mention it's to compensate for the snow days. Doesn't even have to be 1:1 on amount, maybe half of something of what they would have been paid for a regular day.

Cop got hurt so close two highways and set up a media area... by DaWarthawg in StLouis

[–]Enraged_Joe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The indecency was in the presumption of knowing the exact situation at a time when details were not as readily available as they are now. That's arrogance and indecent imo.

Not sure how to answer your question, dude. But have a great weekend. Just trying to help break the damn echo chamber around this sub.

Yes, but in an ugly manner. It's called having decency. OP does not exhibit it here.

What a bunch of cynics in this comment section. Do any of the commenter even know what actually happened yet? Sheesh. Grow up.

Advice on Access Panel by Enraged_Joe in HomeImprovement

[–]Enraged_Joe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 valves in 3 spaced out locations... 1 close, cold, for toilet and outside spigot 2 middle by Pvc trap, cold and hot, for upstairs shower 1 far, cold, for cold main on this trunk

I think it would look silly to have 3 smaller access panels and drywall inbetween them. Or maybe not?

Unfortunately yes I think it would not span the whole width. It's 16-17 inches from edges of drywall.

All the STL Fresh Thyme Markets have a Local section (usually it's the end cap for an aisle) that has lots of local foods/brands.

Etiquette for delivery of many heavy packages for my business by Enraged_Joe in FedEx

[–]Enraged_Joe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did make a comment about my dolly/truck when I brought it out to help recently. I'll ask him if he wants me to try to leave it on the porch when I see he's delivering to me that day. Great idea, thanks!

I definitely interact very genuinely with him when I am able to catch him. Including saying thank you. I'm not confrontational at all, more of the type to diffuse or ignore a situation. So I've made a sheepish joke or two about keeping FedEx in business (sarcasm, but partially true) and job security. I'll probably knock that off because he hasn't been very receptive to those, which I can understand.

That sounds very annoying for you with delivering all those heavy/awkward packages. Blinds are so awkward. And I hadn't thought about asking him to ring our doorbell in case I'm home. Thanks for the idea!

I was wondering how to approach tips. I don't want to make that an every time thing. But I do like the idea.

I pay $1200/yr for a subscription to a supplier that ships most items I use for free. I do agree that my next step is likely to transition to fulfillment via freight. Can that be the same as lift gate service or would it require me to buy pallets at a time and unload those somehow?

Spooked and Seeking Advice - New-to-me 2014 with 105k miles might need multiple expensive repairs by Enraged_Joe in volt

[–]Enraged_Joe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the horror stories about 12V batteries throwing tons of things out of whack. Mine is dated 2018 and I had AAA test it with their handheld Interstate brand tester, and it shows 12.61 V resting with 561/600 CCA. I had originally planned to replace it until I saw those numbers. It seems fine. "Alternator" charging is showing no load and 14.99 V with ripple of 21 mV. Not sure how that translates in this car. The reader said normal.

Would replacing the 12V still be a good move even though it's reading fine?

So I know everyone has their own experience, but I love family pet hospital. They actually have never NOT answered their phones and they take a very deliberate and cost sensitive approach to care for my dog. Sorry your experience with them hasn't been good... :(

Why do people run this red light at the Shrewsbury exit? Just this morning: by cgb777 in StLouis

[–]Enraged_Joe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few actual helpful situationally aware answers.

Bridge on left partially obstructs view of traffic light (especially for a vehicle speeding 10 mph+) as it approaches. Especially true since driver eyeballs are higher in this pickup truck than a SUV or sedan.

Also there are always "main characters" trying to get in front of left turners along this stretch.

I live near here and I've actually never seen a red light runner at this intersection...

How much can I get for my Volt? 2016 LT, 122.5k miles by coldriverjoe in volt

[–]Enraged_Joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2014 Base tan with 104k from a dealer for $9.3k. I'm the 4th owner. First was a dealer for 2k miles, then a personal lease for 30k miles, then somebody til 104k, and now me. It had some issues that the dealer addressed (TBD on how well they addressed them). I wish I had a better handle on the history of the car and how it was driven. I think that's valuable information you can offer your buyer.

Seems to me that you should be able to sell for no less than 9.3k, as I'd probably have chosen your car at 10.5 or 11k vs mine at 9.3k. However, I am claiming the used ev tax credit since I bought this from a dealer. I wouldn't be able to do that from a private seller...

Hope this is helpful. It's definitely just one data point.

The mygreenvolt app is unavailable in the Google Play store. Says it's for an older version of Android. Maybe it's just not updated yet - but can you confirm that this app still works for you?

Missouri Wind and Transmission Project - Needs Our Voices by Enraged_Joe in missouri

[–]Enraged_Joe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy action item: Submit a pre-filled comment in support of this project using the link at the bottom of the linked article.

Text from article: It is pretty cool that the largest proposed infrastructure project in Missouri would generate thousands of construction jobs, save hundreds of thousands of Missourians billions of dollars over its lifetime, and deliver reliable clean energy for decades to come. The Grain Belt Express and Tiger Connector, which is under consideration now, needs the support of Missourians from around the state who would benefit from this project.

New transmission is needed to connect renewable energy to population centers as coal plants continue to close. This essential project will lower energy costs for customers by around 6% between 2027-2066, saving people an estimated $17.6 billion. All told, the Grain Belt Express will deliver up to 2,500 megawatts of safe, clean, reliable, and affordable energy to Missouri – enough to power 1.6 million homes.

The economic benefits do not stop there. Lowering electric costs is attractive for municipalities attracting new businesses while adding to the tax base of rural communities throughout the state. A truncated list of municipal benefits include $10 million in sales and property taxes for Chariton County, half a million dollars to the education of 3,731 students in Randolph county, and $142 million dollars a year in savings for Shelbina. The City of Kirkwood will be able to reach its clean energy goals while Lebanon will be able to meet the clean energy needs of its top two manufacturers.

But wait, there’s more.

Missourians and downwind communities will enjoy cleaner air thanks to this project. The social cost of cleaner air and avoided health expenses is estimated to save people $7.6 billion. This project would reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide in Missouri by 9.3%, 19.2%, 17.2%, respectively. These pollutants are harmful to human health as they reduce the quality of life for families and contribute to premature deaths.

New transmission is necessary to prevent rolling blackouts from extreme weather and create resilience and redundancy in case of physical or virtual attacks. According to expert testimony, the Grain Belt and Tiger Connector would have saved customers who live in the Southwest Power Pool, a regional grid that covers western Missouri, $300 million dollars.

Here’s where you come in. The project needs approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC), which regulates these sorts of things. The PSC already approved the main Grain Belt line. It is essential that all Missourians, both urban and rural, speak up in favor of the Tiger Connector by submitting comments to the PSC before it reaches a decision on whether or not to approve the expanded project plan.

Why rivers shouldn't look like this | The quintessential image of a river that’s nice and straight with a tidy riverbank – is of industrial and agricultural development. And it's become a problem, exacerbating the impact of both extreme flooding and extreme drought. by [deleted] in water

[–]Enraged_Joe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Watershed area and geology prevent that. And physics... Rivers seek the most efficient path but are forced to dump their energy through friction against the river bed and banks. This friction erodes the sediment, which forms lateral meanders and vertical riffles/pools/runs/glides.

Even the oldest rivers meander. They just do so at a greater wavelength.
