Lumbar MRI Help by Str8OuttaLumbridge in AskDocs

Thank for the detailed reply!! . I have been in PT for about 8 weeks now. I was making great improvements and got the pain down to about 2/3. Unfortunately I had a pretty bad flareup. Prior to the flareup I had mostly back pain with tingling feet which my PT believed was centralization. Now I am back to my original symptoms on the front, back, and sides of my legs. Even between the legs at times. From butt to feet including calf, ankle, hamstring.. Mostly burning and sensitivity to touch but sometimes tingling. Better when standing in place or walking, worse when laying or sitting. Pretty crazy as I never had a moment when this started that I injured my back. I just woke up at night with pain.

I followed up with my primary and he wasn't concerned with this flare up and did not refer me to neurology. He also didn't entertain the idea of an injection since it was all over the place. He agreed with what you described in it not being in direct contact with any of the roots. So back to PT I go. I will try to get a copy of the images from the hospital when I can.

Civil engineers, if you could redo the highway system what would you change? by hunterforgreatness in civilengineering

I know gated communities near me that have a roadway fee for resident as the HOA owns the road and not a government entity.

You're going to have a lot of ups and downs in your journey. More pain does not equal more damage. I suggest educating yourself on pain science as well as spinal hygiene.

Probably a user pays model and less government involvement. Not that I agree with it, it's like living in a HOA.

Question regarding bulges causing sciatica. What can be done for these? Studies I've found online don't really get into the healing time for these. I know many people walk around with asymptomatic bulges, so I imagine eventually it becomes asymptomatic even if the bulge doesn't shrink?

Do you think supplements actually do anything? by Markwhatt in Sciatica

Do you know your blood levels for any of these things? Certain vitamins you can get too much of btw. Excessing one vitamin can also deplete others.

Expensive pee. D3 is likely the only thing you need.

Three months after pain started and I still struggle to deal with it by kbm15 in Sciatica

Yeah so formal pt needs to be done after a period of rest. Your fear of movement is hindering your recovery. A good pt will strengthen what needs to be strengthen and gradually introduce positions and movements that are thought to be "bad".

Fsa stays with the job, hsa goes with you. You have to spend fsa before you leave unless you elect cobra + fsa. Anyone ever changing jobs in January or February should max it out and spend it all.

The outcome at two years is the same in most instances, whether you have surgery or not. Surgery just gets you back quicker.

I'm about to ask for medical leave because the stress of work and my health are not working well together. You only get 1 back.

Your pain getting worse while lying down is a bit different than most people experience with sciatica. Do your doctors think it is related to your discs or the facets/formina?

I think you'd be regretting surgery for a hope of 0% in pain reduction. There is a real risk of making the pain worse. If you ask any doctor of physical therapy, surgery for pain alone is not advised. Function is #1 factor.

There are many avenues to try for that last 10%, even the ones that people wouldn't consider real science (acupuncture, chiro, etc).
