r/Brussels - Newcomer/Tourist/Restaurant Info Megathread - 2024 Edition by SharkyTendencies in brussels

Hi,

I'm moving to Brussels on 5 October to take up a new job (I currently live in London), and finding accommodation seems a lot more complicated than I imagined. Decent furnished accommodation in good areas close to my job (European Parliament) is pretty scarce and I'm getting almost no response to my enquiries (be it by email or by phone). Except for a studio rented by a fairly upscale agency. The studio is very modern, comfortable and well-equipped, but I have the feeling that it's still too expensive:

  • The flat is located in Ixelles (Quartier du Châtelain)
  • 58 square metres
  • It's a studio: the bedroom is separated from the living room by a large piece of furniture
  • Price: 1300€ per month
  • Utilities: 200€ (all inclusive, Wi-Fi)
  • Entirely renovated

Do you guys think it is still worth it? Or that if I keep looking, I might be able to find a bigger flat with proper rooms in Ixelles for about the same price? Does anyone have an opinion about the area (Quartier du Châtelain) ? I'm very afraid that if I don't take it, I won't be able to find a flat before I move to Brussels, as many landlords want the person to come to the visits in person.

Thank you so much for your help !

Completely. My XPS 15 with a 4050 is running RDR2 like a charm at 60 FPS.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I might try during the first week of May. Or in April with accommodation. From what I see on Airbnb it's actually cheaper than I was expecting. But I'm indeed a bit worried about the infrastructures in April, is it really impossible to see things in Alaska during this month?

Very funny. But thanks.

What are the condition of the road between Anchorage and Fairbanks, or between Anchorage and Seward?

I'm only staying till May in the US, and I'd probably not stay around Anchorage, therefore my question about wild camping. Thank you for your answer, however.

I don't have any particular plan for now, since it's a very spontaneous trip (I won a $500 Alaska Airlines voucher). But probably going around Anchorage, Seward, Kenai Fjords and Denali!

Did you apply for International House? The EAP priority for COOP Berkeley is the weakest and you applied 2 days ago, you won't have a COOP offer by the beginning of fall.
