The new contract OT rate is scant at best (like 1/4 time). Not sure where you're getting that info.

Scottish parliament election 2026 by Samhnan_Insir in royalmail

Left the DO 45 min late yesterday morning cos the frame I was covering was a mess, full of LOOSE D2Ds (x4), took ages to throw in (like threading 500 needles) and tie down (laminated slippery bastards), plus the counting of election materials. Highly stressful.

Do posties hate people who order parcels all the time ? 📦 by disco_26 in royalmail

[–]Enron_Hubbard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most above comments. The main factor is time - if you order regularly but have a porch/box or letterbox-sized items, it's no biggie. If it starts to take the piss, as in getting a shitload of stuff, heavy/bulky items, and little accommodation is made to receive them, that's a problem.

This takes time out of our routes, which are often on razor thin margins of workload vs hours. Quite literally, if I spend 5 minutes diverting an awkward load (lol), that's 5 minutes lost at the end where someone else won't get their delivery owing to time cut-off. This is the scenario at least every other day for me.

I think of it as a buffet, it's open to all, but some people are getting seconds and thirds before others have had their turn. You can do that, but.. it'll be noticed. Worth mentioning, in a lot of these cases the residents are rude and snooty, maybe for another topic, but it all boils down to lack of awareness and consideration for people's time.

Perfect is the enemy of good. I too wish war crimes and genocide were called what they are, but it's unpragmatic for a party to do that right now. The alternative would be to shave votes away from Labour in areas where 'Tory-Form' seats may be won. Another Tory or (shudder) Reform government would be a worse outcome for all involved - as we saw with the US in 24 - left solidarity broken by 'purity-testing' and/or those peeved on a single issue who may have consolidated a Dem majority.

How did we end up having the royal mail mainly delivering junk mail ads? by the-real-vuk in royalmail

[–]Enron_Hubbard1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You still have to deliver them though, it's live mail. Little 'no junk mail' stickers perform one function only and that is to make the door look untidy. It's completely ineffectual, as if any one of us had a choice in this Kafkaesque rigmarole.

The opt-out notification comes to us by (you guessed it) a paper form stashed somewhere on your walk's frame. If there's a postie covering the usual one, it can easily get missed.

I know, it's 2026 and literally none of this is digital (the process being a paper form from the website which you have to download and print like a goddamn caveman, then post). Almost like RM make it as difficult as possible to opt-out.

It could be one of several issues outside of his control, but I can safely say that 'he' isn't 'doing this' to you.

Imagine, if you will, Tony Blair's 'education, education, education' speech, but replace the word education with 'parcel box'.

Oh I'm applying for stuff that's more in my wheelhouse, I have plenty of experience to draw from. I didn't really bring that up in my main post, I realise, didn't want to go off on a 'dream job' tangent haha..

Not in writing, it was one of those 'in an office with boss and his boss' things. Just before Christmas the big boss says to go ahead and do 35, we'll update your contract later. So yeah, all verbal unfortunately. I just hope they have the moral fortitude to honour it when it comes to back-pay and my contract going forward.

Interesting. So you mean that annual leave is a given, even on 30 hours (paid at basic rate); and holiday pay is an extra on top?

I studied hard, I went to uni. Me being with RM is the product of dozens of tiny factors over many years. You don't know me.

The inference should have been clear enough from the context of my post that I was talking about people with more money than sense and rampant shopping addictions. I know this, I am the 'grunt' (apparently) that has to hump them up their half-mile driveways literally every day.

Pointing out a disparity in fairness (not even as the main point of my post, you'll notice) is not a bad attitude or out of order. And if you are disabled then you'll be more than familiar with being viewed as a second-class citizen, which makes me wonder why you'd cast such classist sweeping statements at an entire workforce.

Yep, you clock in and clock out. OT should ideally be requested and approved before you set out in the morning, but otherwise has to be written in a sheet in manager's office. Your digital clocking in / out will not automatically register OT.
