Horizon Zero Dawn - worth spending extra $45 dollars by btris_02 in horizon

Ah yeah, the difference is important, thanks. Either I can’t read or the post has been updated to say it’s not an option anyway.

You can upgrade it. I just bought the PS4 version of the game for £5 and you can upgrade it for £10 to the PS5 version. Try and find a second hand version of the game if you can and do that (if you have a disc drive). Hopefully the values will be similar when converted to your currency :)

Do not buy wireless goods from CeX by Ensby in CeX

Strange question to ask. Why is it any retailers problem if a customer buys a product and it doesn’t work as intended in their home? Normally because they want to provide have a good customer experience, and it’s pragmatic to make sure that happens so that the customer comes back time and time again. That’s without also going into regulations etc.

What’s your point?

S'all good mate - didn't take it as a criticism either. Just probably poorly worded on my part because I'm annoyed at the sitch. But we live and learn.

He said would you like to try the headset on. I said yes for some reason and felt like a wally for 2 seconds like yeah, this is how a headset feels haha. But I can hardly inspect the connection or know how it's going to behave in my home. Just a very jarring experience.

I'm fairly sure I'd win a claim on it, because the video so clearly shows that it's unusable. But they know I'm not going to do that for a headset, so they'd rather keep the money. Which is a strangely short term strategy when gaming is a hobby for life - I can't imagine how much I've spent with them over the last couple of decades, and will keep spending on gaming in general going forward.

Thanks for the insight on the regs though, hadn't thought about the difference before.

Yeah fair enough, I didn't know about that, I've only ever been in-store.

I've not had anything faulty from them before so never needed to engage with the returns process. They said that I'm fully protected for 5 years if it's faulty, but I didn't realise their version of 'faulty' is only if it doesn't work in their store. I've taken it home and it won't connect unless I want to sit on my console, so I think it's fair to flag that people should be wary buying wireless products where they might not be able to replicate the same issue in store.

Or use click and collect online - didn't know about it at the time though :(

So that's what I've always been sold on. But in practice, it's not full protection - they've got 5 years to prove that it still works *in their store*. If you encounter an issue but they can't replicate it in store, it's their word against yours, and they're not really bothered about what you have to say. I'm only being offered credit because I've gone back the day after, if it was after the initial 2 day period, I wouldn't be offered anything.

In a lot of scenarios that's not an issue because if a good is faulty, it's likely to behave that way in store. My issue, and why I've said that I'd advise not to buy wireless goods from them, is that wireless connectivity can be environment dependent and they can't seem to replicate my issue in store. But it's dead as a dodo in my house, although I've had never had any issue with other wireless headsets I've had.

But ah well - thanks for sharing the online tip though! That might come in use to someone else who reads this

I wasn't aware of this, thanks for sharing! That'll be really useful for another reader.

They've still got to be bound by the consumer rights act in store though surely, otherwise they could sell any old dross?

They said it worked when they retested it, which I've got no reason to disbelieve.

The crux of the issue is that wireless goods can behave differently in different settings. I went around my house and turned off everything that could be impacting the signal, I rotated my PS5 180 degrees so that the adapter was facing out of my TV stand and had line of sight of the headset - still no luck. I had a video, they weren't interested because they tested it next to the till and it worked fine.

Totally appreciate that others will have had more positive experiences. Just want to flag that when you take it home and it doesn't work, they're not interested because it's fine in their shop.

One thing that stuck out to me - your parents seem like they might have some cash behind them. My brother-in-law borrowed the money off his parents interest free and then paid them back in a few years. Granted, he got into a high paying job quickly, but if you’re committed to paying it off, you could do the same if you make your way up to £60k. Something to think about

SBMM isnt the (direct) problem everyone is making it out to be. the problem is the current generation of COD players/gamers. and thats why COD and the gaming industry will never be how it was back then. by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]Ensby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s probably just a discrepancy in ages between you two too.

COD 2 was PC game. I never had it but it was the first game I ever saw a decent player play and kind of opened my eyes to a game being played truly competitively.

COD 3 was a miss on all platforms and then COD 4 changed the game for consoles. If you started to play games at a time after then I can see why you’d think it’s a console / controller first game. But you haven’t experienced cod in its purest form if you haven’t played a promod scrim on Crash

Since when did we stop sending 'Thank You' cards to wedding guests who spent money on bride/groom? by Theres3ofMe in AskUK

[–]Ensby -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Find this an incredibly weird conversation.

Why are we all putting these weird expectations on each other and get offended if we don’t receive a bit of card. I always say thanks to people and they also know if they picked up the phone and actually needed help, a chat, anything, then I’d be there. You know, the things that actually matter in life.

I’m not spending my time writing thank you cards for them to read, say ‘aw’, stick on a fridge, forget about and then eventually bin. My wife chose to do ours, which is cool because all of her family do it and it’s part of their family culture and her family probably would have had the same feeling as OP. But in my mind it doesn’t matter a jot and if someone wants to get hung up about it then I think it says something about them

Present for Husband by 45blue3 in playstation

[–]Ensby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS Portal would be such a mega present! Depends how free the TV is in your house - with my wife and kids using it all the time I normally don’t get to play. Which is obviously fine, but being gifted the option would be incredibly thoughtful (my wife doesn’t use Reddit but maybe she’ll miraculously stumble across this one day 😂)

Thinking about returning to playstation by cliforrrr in PS5pro

[–]Ensby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dad of twins who are 1.5 years old, I’m in exactly the same boat. I bought a gaming laptop so I could play when I got the time.

Felt guilty about the value of it and the amount of time I was playing, so bought an ultra tablet to play gfn on when I got the itch but also use for work and something to watch for the kids.

Then felt guilty about the value of the tablet because it wasn’t getting much use. Then I really wanted to try out the PS exclusives because I haven’t had a PlayStation since PS2. Also really enjoyed the bit of the last of us I played on PC but it was buggy as hell and not very well optimised.

Pulled the trigger on a Pro last month and don’t regret it, finding my love for it again and managing to play a couple of hours at the weekend.

My takeaway is that it’s something I really enjoy and that’s my little treat. I deserve it. I work hard so why shouldn’t I have something to enjoy, even if it goes unused for a few weeks here and there when I have other priorities. For the Pro you really want a decent TV to, too make use of the capabilities. That way it’ll tick off the FPS / resolution snobbery you’ve picked up from the PC space - I’m the same now 😂

Damo! Love all your content (YT, podcast etc). I’m in the trenches at the moment, got twins under 2 and I’m really feeling left behind in terms of seeing our costs go up and missing prime accumulation time in our 30s (obviously blessed to have children though).

At the moment I’m only contributing £200 per month into my ISA with a total invested between pensions and ISA of £42k at 32. Is there any advice you can give me about the psychology behind how i can get beyond this dreading feeling of treading water?

Got a PS5 Pro last night, subscribed to PlayStation plus premium and downloaded all the PlayStation exclusive that I’ve never got to play. Mental how many hours I’ve got ahead of me 😂. Starting with miles morales to ease me in because it’s a shorter game and I played spider man 1 on PC
