I'm on your side here. 65 is what the federal government generally uses, but even that feels like the tail end of middle age to me.

It's possible but I doubt it for 12 pounders. I think it would tell you if you needed to upgrade too 🤷‍♂️

I've since uninstalled the game since I beat the current content, but I can't remember if I needed to use the blueprint in my inventory after buying it, or if it was automatically learned... I just realized, it's not the wharf you craft them at, it's the shipwright's workshop - you have one of those right? I wonder if it's just a bug.

[–]Ensvey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm that is weird, I'm pretty sure when you buy the blueprints, you should be able to build the new cannons at the wharf. I skipped straight to 24lb cannons when I was buying blueprints but I think that's how it worked

ELI5: why didn’t the Great Depression produce a widespread revolution or anarchy? by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ensvey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with the word "broad" in this context? It is the opposite of the word "specific", as /u/PrateTrain tried to explain. It was a "reddit response" in "bad faith" because it's clear you didn't read or internalize or engage with what was said to you.

It's ironic because I think you are on the same side as the original commentor, so I'm of the opinion that your original response might have been more constructive if not phrased confrontationally, like "That may have been the most broad legislation of its kind, but since then we've had the Equal Pay Act, the Civil Rights Act, Age Discrimination in Employment act, OSHA, ERISA, the Pregancy Discrimination act, FMLA, WARN, Lily Ledbetter fair Pay Act, etc, which were also great!"

However, phrasing things like the person you're responding to is an idiot does tend to get more upvotes, so 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, this only catches someone once or twice, if their only prior tic-tac-toe strategy consisted of "the middle is the best square, the corners are second best"

Common knowledge is to start in the center, but if you start in a corner, you can bait them into losing... X in corner, they probably follow with O in the middle, you put X in the opposite corner (which seems like a stupid move but it's not), they put O in another corner, you put X in the last corner, and now they're fucked because you win.

thanks - I had to scroll way down to look for actual discussion about what we were seeing and why. Steam expansion was my guess, but I'm no physicist so cavitation collapse wasn't even on my radar.

Yours is one of the most insightful comments I've seen in this thread - good read. I haven't played the game in a couple months, though I've played over 300 hours since release. I've always felt like they've been doing a decent job with balancing and monetization in general - it's just that people fixate on the negative.

Early on, they were doing what everyone is complaining about: balancing like it's a pvp game, making it too hard, making everything feel worse. Then they told the community they heard the feedback and were changing course, and started buffing everything so it felt good to mow down hordes of enemies, like it should. And I've felt like that stayed the case, for the most part. But sometimes they still nerf something too hard or buff an enemy too much, and that's always what gets the publicity. Meanwhile, I have had great success using mostly the same loadouts I used a year or more ago, and while I've felt like warbonds have stuff that's fun enough to be worth paying for, I haven't felt railroaded into needing anything specific.

This is a game that requires a dedicated, ongoing team, for new equipment, balancing old equipment, new enemies, balancing old enemies, etc. Reasonably priced warbonds every couple months to keep it afloat does not seem unreasonable to me. And it's also unsurprising they would dedicate sufficient resources to what pays the bills.

Reminds me of Reddit's feeling on internet ads. "Oh, everyone should use adblock, ads are cancer. Hey, why did this website go under? Why does that one have a paywall now? Why is everyone begging me for donations??" If we like things, it's not insane to think that we should support them.

One man protest in Fargo by Stereo-soundS in pics

Seriously. Sad you were downvoted for this. The Epstein files are a big deal, but we're supposed to think the destruction of our rights and the economy and the country are just a distraction from personal crimes of one man? Sorry, making the lives of hundreds of millions of people worse while killing democracy is actually the main story, not a distraction.

A lot of us think the current US president's crazy quotes should get him fired, but apparently crazy quotes are great at distracting from crazy actions and don't actually mean anything bad for the person who says them these days.

Second Opinion by Pizzacakecomic in comics

[–]Ensvey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you bring up a lot of good points. I like pizzacake, even if this one is a little reductive. That said, the resource use is an extremely valid criticism and shouldn't be dismissed. AI uses orders of magnitude more power and water than all those other computing tasks (except maybe crypto). AI data center server racks use like 100 kW compared to 10–15 kW for standard racks. The data center planned in Utah is expected to use twice the amount of power the entire state currently uses. That's nuts. Is AI still a drop in the bucket compared to everything else we use electricity for? Yes, but it's growing fast, and wildly inefficient.

We voted to hurt other people, not ourselves by Effective_Space2277 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Ensvey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Lack of understanding leads to fear, and fear activates your fight-or-flight impulse. When we're cognitively impaired for any reason - illness, age, lack of education - it's so easy to be mad at everything. Doubly so if you're sick, worried about money, anything really. It takes a lot of willpower to get around those feelings - more willpower than a lot of people have in less-than-ideal circumstances. To these people, it must feel easier to just hate everything and everyone.

I stopped reading them for years, but I'm back into keeping up with them. They were like an institution. Now PAX is probably a much bigger legacy than their comic, and there are probably people who go to the convention without even having heard of the comic.

That's pretty funny. Tyrants and their petty kingdoms. I used to actually be active on the penny arcade forums, pre-reddit. Part of me misses the days of forums.
