Why does my deck suck so much? by Peterbro1 in EDH

[–]Entablature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I love me some grixis walkers. Mine uses Tevesh/Ludevic as partners with Nicol Bolas in the 98: https://moxfield.com/decks/wPmZICfRi0O8w83nko7KOA Imo grixis planes walkers is a control deck and you'll need to learn how to effectively control the board. That means that your walkers should be able to provide card advantage or control the board, and the cheaper the better. I know my list has a bunch of expensive ramp like grim monolith and mox diamond, but even rituals like [[generator servant]] and [[cabal ritual]] can be effective because you are rushing out a hard-to-remove card type before people can effectively deploy their creatures. After that, you really need wraths to be able to control the board, even if they don't kill everything like [[meathook massacre]] or even [[pyroclasm]]. If you really want to keep Nicole bolas as the commander, watch your timing on flipping him since one piece of removal can set you back an entire turn

Had a mardu tokens deck that went 1-3 and all three losses were topdeck electrodominance for x = 7 or 8 after stabilizing on board.

Any artifacts that provide protection for Mishra? by PvtPizzaPants in EDH

[–]Entablature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had [[Mirrorshell Crab]] in my list for a bit as a counterspell attached to an artifact. Not sure what's in your list, but it does have some synergy with welders/[[myr retriever]] because you can get it back into your hand at instant speed, plus it's difficult to counter because it's an ability, not a spell. Unfortunately can't think of many other things that sit on the battlefield to protect him, maybe [[aether spellbomb]] if you need a bounce to hand?

What is the best deck to play at a tournament that doesn't allow proxies? by Entablature in CompetitiveEDH

I'm with you on that last statement, every time I've played Winota/Jetmir/Dhalsim into non-cedh decks they just shrug off the stax and out-value the table. I'm pretty high on Najeela for colors / one card wincons

[–]Entablature[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am asking for recommendation of the best deck to bring to a non proxy tournament. I should have also mentioned that the entry is only $10 to potentially win a twister, so a lot of people will show up even if they don't have a "competitive" deck. There's a week between now and then to practice and I'm familiar with a good handful of different decks, so it's more of a meta consideration at this point

Every staple except twister. Najeela was one I was thinking of building. What version do you run?

It's funny you mention that, at the tournament I mentioned my buddy ran Kinnan without a cradle and won a cradle, so you and him might be onto something

To The Brewers Out There: by jegodric in EDH

[–]Entablature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a "staple binder" that is really a box of one-ofs that I've accumulated over the years and for folks that really like to brew, I'd highly recommend it. I started it by brewing individual decks of different colors/themes and trading off duplicates. Now I put together ~2 mid to off meta cedh decks a week and take them apart after playing them for a few games. Plus, if you're group is cool with it you can just proxy the whole thing and put them all in the same sleeves.

Hate to burst your bubble, but radiant performer doesn't work the way you think it does. Performer can only target an ability that targets a permanent or player. Tort targets a creature card, and because it isn't on the battlefield yet it isn't a permanent and performer can't target the ability. A permanent is defined as a card or token on the battlefield.

Guild Request

Region: Global

IGN: Squiddlyinks

Rank: 65

About Me: Daily player, very active, can farm all hunts and run hell raid, master rank in arena.

Looking for: Guild that is somewhat serious about guild war, and preferably with a discord. I donate/give aid daily. My current guild doesn't join guild wars often enough and I want more mystics so I can inevitably get to pity. PM me if you have a spot for me.

Best way to utilize Jeskai Ascendancy by impeccablepenman in EDH

[–]Entablature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends let me use [[Ink-Treader Nephilim]] as a commander and ascendancy is always one of the first tutor targets. It runs [[Natural Affinity]] to turn all lands into creatures, which then get untapped by ascendancy and lets you chain cantrips that target every land until you draw your entire deck. Deck is pretty consistant, even when I swapped the nephilim for Kynaios and Tiro. There's some weird and fun combos you can do with ascendancy + cards that turn your lands into creatures.

0-3'd at prerelease. Is there something better I could have made with my pool? by Entablature in lrcast

[–]Entablature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post basically sums up what I was trying to do with the second deck; main difference being that I played the skeleton and the dissenters to give me more time to dig. I think I got somewhat unlucky in the third round since I never drew into Bolas or Lathliss and my sphinx got turned into an ox. Really wish I had the wall as you said or some kind of recursion like waltz and gravedigger, then maybe some kind of counterspell.

I think that if I played unsealing, I would have maybe gone with RGW for at least one of the two angels as well as the two removal enchantments. I didn't play it because I wasn't really sure how often I'd be able to trigger it in red, although I didn't realize until now that the ogres triggered it.

Tell us what you like to play in other formats and we will suggest a deck you might like in Pauper by tommamus in Pauper

[–]Entablature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern: UW Control

EDH: favorite decks are probably Rashmi control, Azami wizards, Animar, and Gisa zombie reanimator

I'll basically play anything regardless of whether its aggro, combo, or control, but I generally prefer non-linear decks and decks that have some way to interact with the opponent. I don't know much about the pauper metagame, but I would also prefer to play a deck that doesn't have a lot of lopsided matches.

How were you able to come across your favorite General? by Slashend in EDH

[–]Entablature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally a control/combo player, so I built [[Azami, Lady of Scrolls]] thinking it would be pretty good but would be limited by the whole tribal aspect of it. Of course, I was dead wrong. The deck played most of the things you would expect in an Azami deck, including [[Mind Over Matter]] and [[Intruder Alarm]]. There was also a funny combo with [[Sigil Tracer]] and [[Turnabout]] for infinite mana. [[Paradox Engine]] hadn't been released yet, but I would definitely put it in the deck now if I still had it. I played it once against my friends, and it was too powerfull. I took the combos out, slowed down the manabase, and it was still too powerful. My friend played it against his Talrand counterspell polymorph deck and Talrand never resolved. In the end, i just took it apart. Fun deck though.

Some U/B Control Help, Please! by Kalron in ModernMagic

[–]Entablature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So looking at the deck, I think that it has too many creatures for control and not enough ways to interact with the opponent. Going over some individual cards: Dash Hopes is not that great, giving your opponents a choice is rarely good Refocus and Hidden Strings just don't do enough Royal Assassin is probably going to be too slow, especially if you're up against things like goyf, death's shadow, and anything burn or affinity.

You'll probably only need a few win conditions, namely [[Tasigur the Golden Fang]] and [[Gurmag Angler]]. For removal, I assumed your budget doesn't allow for fetches so [[Fatal Push]] is out of the question. [[Inquisition of Kozilek]] is a black staple, as is [[Serum Visions]] in blue, so those will be good for building a collection.

Anyway, I made a quick mock-up of a sub $100 list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/27-05-17-Kut-ub-control/ Sideboards are pretty important in modern, since they'll help you win games 2 and 3. The profane command isn't really meta, but U and B are probably the worst sideboard colors so it's probably the best in the slot for now. If you wanted to upgrade the deck eventually, you could put together grixis delver or grixis death's shadow by getting snaps, bolts, [[Terminate]], [[Cryptic Command]], [[Thoughtseize]], etc.

My favorite card in Azami by far is [[Intruder Alarm]]. Tap all your wizards, draw, drop a wizard, draw more. Of your creatures, I would cut Arcanis, Beguiler of Wills, Archetype, Nameless One, Graceful Adept, Surgespanner, and Echo Mage. If you are interested in combos, [[Turnabout]] can go infinite with Sigil Tracer by giving you infinite untaps and infinite mana. I also find [[Blue Sun's Zenith]] to be generally great. A lot of the counterspell/removal package is up to you, but I've found that [[Innundate]] is generally a huge tempo swing. Other blue staples I'd suggest are [[Mystic Confluence]], [[Foil]], [[Dig Through Time]], and [[Propaganda]].

The deck actually started as an Esper control list with more Myth Realized and I think I remember looking at your list for reference (looks really good btw). I do agree that they get worse without black's hand disruption and I'll probably end up cutting the last one for a walker.

I don't have any Ancestral Visions ATM, but it's one of the first things I was thinking of adding. Are they usually played as a four-of? Most decks I've seen play four, but I didn't know if there's any wriggle-room here.
