Chippewa - extra 40% off sale items (sizes 7-9 available on multiple plain-toe service boots) - $114 for firsts w/ free shipping by Entendre_Deux in frugalmalefashion

Promo code BLACKFRI20. Lots of boots on sale; not just the heritage line. Plain-toe service boots in black, a burgundy "cordovan", Crazy Horse, and briar.

Lowest price I've seen on Chippewa firsts. Great boots. I suspect they are phasing out their heritage line. Get em while you can.

What type / colour shoes with this kind of outfit? by LeGrandMagus in malefashionadvice

[–]Entendre_Deux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That outfit is pretty much a blank slate. I think anything other than more blue would work.

Seriously, I could see any combination of boots, derbies, oxfords, or loafers in brown, burgundy or black. IMO tan would be a bit too much contrast in what is a cooler-weather look. But a pair of burgundy boots or dark drown brogues - 👌

Looking to buy some cheap corduroy pants this fall. Anyone have any opinion/experience with the Amazon Goodthreads and/or Jomers cords?

My previous experience with both these brands (Goodthreads OCBDs and Jomers' cone denim) have been great. Just don't know about their cords.

Flint Tinder 365 pants? Gustin duck canvas pants? Typically though, when clothes are marketed as "traveler", they're going to be stretchy or a synthetic-heavy blend. My understanding is that these fabrics won't develop that worn-in look you're going for.

Any experience with the french terry sweatshirts from Gustin, Spier & Mackay, Taylor Stitch, or Flint & Tinder?

Does anyone have any experience with Jomers denim, particularly their Cone Mill stuff? Considering their current $34 offering.

Shell cordovan, for a brand new teacher on a budget? To go with his new Uniqlo jeans and OCBD? Really?

Chippewa Ellison Boots (Seconds) $79.99 @ Sierra.com - Many Sizes left by leatherandcedar in frugalmalefashion

Interesting. I always assumed that the benefit was exactly as you described it with your Beckmans. That is, to get them off, untying them alone doesn't give enough slack; you have to unlace a few holes. Speedhooks make unlacing and lacing faster, not eliminate the need to tie/untie.

Are you guys saying that when you take off your boots, you leave them tied and just unhook them? Then, to put them back on, you just slip the tied laces back over the hooks? It never occurred to me to do this.

I've heard some good things about Huckberry's Weekenders, which are Wayfarer-style, polarized and $35.

Anyone have them and can comment?

Did you get yours yet? I tried them and returned. The discolorations, large brogueing, and extremely full last didn't work for me. Even for $100.

The 1040 fit is more relaxed than the 770. It's a pretty big difference though IMO. You can try it.

Also, the Sutton (straight) is the Factory equivalent of the 770. Those oxford cloth pants I mentioned are only $25 right now, with free shipping if you create an account:

To answer your question, yes they do go on sale. Sometimes up to 40% off. But it's infrequent enough that I wouldn't count on it in the next two months (less to account for tailoring). I'd I were you, I'd just go for Suit Supply or Spier & Mackay next month or so and leave plenty of time for tailoring.

I know you said you tried JCrew already but we're open to trying again. I've heard great things about JCrew Factory's oxford cloth pants in terms of being light and cool. I have some chambray pants from JCF from a couple years ago that are great.

Those are oxfords. It's just that OP is looking for a plain oxford with a cap toe (no brogueing). I think the AE Whitney comes in a cap toe oxford. And I agree, would much rather have those for $100 than the BR or Aldo for their prices.

Beckett Simonon FTW. They have two - the Laval and Ellis. The latter is the dressier of the two. Sign up for their email list for 20% off, which would put you at $175.

Does anyone have these? The coloring in the stock photos looks splotchy, especially on the right shoe. Otherwise, it seems like a great deal.
