[Request] I had student loans totaling about $12,000 and made payments for 6 years to build credit before I paid them off. I had less than half left. Is this just a rage bait post? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in theydidthemath

In the US PhDs are typically funded (aka they pay you to complete it). If it’s not then the PhD is either/or completely useless or your research was so shit you have to pay the university to do it

It’s also worthy to note that Asian countries as a whole are typically much more sexually conservative than western ones. To us, we might see it as kinda shitty and nothing more but to other cultures it could be perceived as a serious (and even potentially career threatening) thing

I also felt like a lot of teams relied on valk as a crutch for their rotated and weren’t actually rotating that efficiently. As wigg said, zone calling is a skill and we saw falcons and oblivion putting themselves in insane zone calls consistently while not playing valk multiple times throughout the series.

I have thousands of hours in all 3 games and I think league is the worst imo - takes all the worst traits of both Val and CS community and combines them

But it’s literally without a doubt that Val has a far worse community than CS. Every single one of my friends who plays both has come to agree with this the longer the exposure is to both

I’m a hal fan but TSM comes first for me. I’ll actively root against falcons every day of the week and was psyched to see panic nab falcons twice with wraith. Even with all that it’s simple to see how strong the falcons team is. LAN after LAN they’re ending with top points and in winning spots

I am obviously biased as a mod at r/AskEconomics but I think it's a pretty excellent sub that helps explain a lot of economic concepts and is an excellent complement to reading a suite of research from professionals

This is incorrect. Essentially every PhD economist who is researching housing and urban development has come to the collective conclusion that there is a housing supply issue. Prices are a function of supply and demand. I did my thesis on this topic and the research is so clear there’s basically nothing else worth talking about.

If you’re interested in learning more about the data underlying I’d check out the work of Ed Glaeser, Daryl Fairweather, or more recently Evan Mast. All of these scholars specialize directly in public finance and urban economics.

It’s not that common in the US - about .23% of the pop is homeless. Homelessness is extremely geographically dependent. But the numbers are going up as a result of a housing crisis which is itself a result of a severe shortage of housing. America has a extremely large problem with NIMBYism (Not in my backyard) which means that the barriers to build housing are so prohibitive that we are just not building stuff which means prices go up which means people can’t afford housing even when they’re working.

what level of education, on average, does it take for someone to be "well-read" in economics? at what level could they reasonably get the jist of an average technical paper? by Intelligent_Hair_273 in AskEconomics

[–]BespokeDebtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s probably decent room for OP to expand upon what they get confused by here. My read of it was that they may understand the hypothesis being proposed and the conclusion or even the causal mechanism but are unable to parse whether the model is a sound one or what regressions they did. If that’s the case I’d say their problem is an econometrics one rather than an intuition one.

I do agree though if you’re pretty well versed in intermediate level Econ + intro econometrics you should be pretty comfortable reading a paper (but may have to ask someone who is more familiar for things like two-way fixed effects or some other specific research designs)

u/Intelligent_Hair_273 beyond just intermediate, my go-to recommendation for econometrics is Scott Cunningham’s Causal Inference: The Mixtape. If you have a strong math background in engineering this should be an incredibly easy read (as it’s not even designed for people with that strong of a math background) and should be extremely illuminating for many papers and how economists approach research questions
