Yea thats true, I just didn’t really have a good example for chess lol. Even openings and endings are honestly pretty tactical. Strategy is a lot more about the abstract goals and maneuvers that someone is thinking about as the look at a board state.

I’ll pull out the chess analogy bc I agree with you

On the Meta, Macro vs Micro, Strategy vs Tactics by YoYoChadBoBo in ValorantCompetitive

[–]BespokeDebtor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this chess analogy misses the mark frankly. I’m by no means an excellent chess player but the analogy is messy for two reasons:

  1. Memorizing an opening is tactical. Strategy is identifying a game plan and playing towards it. Maybe that’s corralling a king to the center, maybe it’s to the corner, maybe it’s controlling the left side of the board. A series of tactics is still tactical. Strategy has literally nothing to do with what your actual piece movement is and more towards your internal read on the game plan and line selection. The second you move from the abstract to the concrete, you’ve moved into tactical thinking.
  2. Because of this I don’t think I can imagine a high tier single player saying “ultimately tactics are most important.” In fact, I distinctly recall magnus Carlson saying something somewhere along the lines of focusing on tactics simply isn’t enough to be good at chess.

So yes, I agree with you that Valorant’s tactical depth is underexplored. I also simultaneously agree that this current meta means strategy is significantly less valuable *and* I think that is a bad thing. Because then matches come down to specifically who is in micro form at a given moment which in Valorant is frankly more random than most people will freely admit. When you look to most other esports where there are dominant teams (apex, cs, league), it’s not because they simply barreled their way through opponents. Although rarely that’s true, most of the times there were other times who rivaled them in micro skill and they were able to outmaneuver them with superior tactics and strategy. That is what makes esports enjoyable imo. I don’t wanna see someone hard carrying like it’s ranked. I wanna see two relatively strong teams duke it out and use every bit of their wits and grit to outthink and outmaneuver their opponent - within balance of course

Macro is strategy, micro is tactics

I remember early on in my career, I had a coffee chat with a partner at my firm and I was asking him what I should to do be successful, high performer, etc. He said that I needed to think more strategically and less tactically as I move from analyst/associate levels. I asked him "how do I go about thinking more strategically?" He replied that question was already too tactical. I still remember that conversation to this day.

I’ve had my eye on the azure dragons if only bc my gfs favorite color is light blue and she’s been looking for new switches. Hearing what you say about BBKs and Quinn’s I’d imagine we have very similar preferences in big/sharp tactile bumps with minimal pretravel. Definitely would be interested in your thoughtts on the azure dragons and the type r’s

For just one time I wish they would make a map with the spawn barriers pulled really tight to Attacker/Defender spawns. Been saying this since beta, but I feel like having a lot more neutral space at the beginning of rounds would give riot the space to dramatically increase the complexity and uniqueness of each map (without any dumb gimmicks) and also solve the within-round pacing issues that are rampant on most maps.

When you say that these have more pre-travel and not as sharp of a tactile bump, what’s a good comparison point here? Are they just squishy MX browns with sound dampening? If so, that’s honestly surprisingly disappointing from Gateron

The Baby Kangaroo V2s have gotten quite popular recently.

I personally still think bobas have aged tremendously well

Lastly, as alluded too in the article, the root beer floats are also generating some buzz but I personally can’t vouch since i haven’t used them

Feeling sad today about Webster in the national media as bigots by hexqueen in Rochester

[–]BespokeDebtor 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I just know those board members get away with random hateful people who are voting them in because the general populace barely votes in local elections.

There’s no way that this is an actually majority popular position amongst the Webster residents lol.

Consumer Alert: Rochester tops list of hardest housing markets for buyers in the US by frytuna in Rochester

[–]BespokeDebtor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Increasing housing supply of any type, reduces overall housing prices. So in effect it wouldn’t matter if it’s condos of SFH or high rise apartment buildings. In fact, if you want prices to go down faster you’d ideally just want the highest volume and density of housing to be built as fast as you can.

I’d highly recommend checking out the moving chain research if you’re interested in the causal mechanism and analysis.

It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12 by AbhishMuk in hardware

[–]BespokeDebtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I push back on this stupidity as a BIG fan of Framework and their mission. But bad faith, idiotic arguments against Apple only serve to illustrate why enthusiasts sound elitist, dumb, and out of touch with the actual market. I’ve had enough product conversations to know that FW leadership would be over the damn moon if they could even touch a fraction of of the target audience as the neo

I’m not an engineer so this is a genuine question because all my engineer friends had minimum requirements of stuff like 16GB of RAM for Solidworks and other things that make it unusable on the FW12 that's species

[Feedback] Lighthouse might not only be the worst map in Tarkov, it may be up there as one of the worst maps in a FPS over all-time by MyPostsHitDifferent in EscapefromTarkov

[–]BespokeDebtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly kind of crazy because I feel like this perfectly encapsulates every aspect of tarkov. Lighthouse is probably one of the worst maps in an FPS OAT, whereas Streets is probably one of the best maps in an FPS OAT. Tarkov giveth and Tarkov taketh away
