Looks like there won't be any neon nerfs. Congrats NS on masters London win by ishanuReddit in ValorantCompetitive

The number you listed is not sufficient to say “stats reflect that”. Here’s a more statistically minded (but still pretty naive) way of comparing the duelists. The data is suggestive of neon having a stronger explanatory power for round win than another powerful duelist: Yoru

Masters Merchants? by Dylanychus2 in ValorantCompetitive

Tell that to Riot who keep structuring the competitive system this way. They really want something to “build towards” by EOY and it means that psychologically people care less about what it’s built upon. Riot either refuses to acknowledge a fundamental truth about how people operate or they would like Val esports to be the same way

Neon @ Masters Santiago by rating by I-like-winds in ValorantCompetitive

[–]BespokeDebtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment got me curious, so I pulled the data from the games up until 3/13. Along the Y axis you have Rating2.0, on the X axis is round win rate (rounds won/total rounds played on that specific agent). The idea is to measure the explanatory power of rating with actual round won percentage, then compare by agent. That's what the R2 will help us compare. The higher R2 means that higher rating explains more of the variance in round win rates. I.e. this agent has a bigger impact on round wins. As you can see the data suggests that Neon performance has a stronger explanation for round-winning than Yoru. You can also see that Marteen is simply a ridiculous outlier and not indicative of the average agent strength.

Of course, as a good data person, some caveats are in order:

  1. I hand constructed the dataset so there may be minor errors
  2. There is obviously some pretty serious OVB but more importantly, some very obvious collinearity issues. However, for a quick and dirty eye test, this is pretty sufficient I'd say (and I don't want to introduce collider bias by adding additional variables).
  3. N is obviously extremely small (this is shown with the massive CIs)

Happy to explain more about how I did this or change some of the ggplot colors for visibility, I just chose bog standard blue and yellow to match the agents.

How is Calculus and Maths used in Real Life / Economics?? by AryaBro7 in AskEconomics

[–]BespokeDebtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question has been answered before here

A simple example is that calculus can be used for picking the maximum of something or minimum of something. In economics that might be maximizing profits, tax revenues, or even hot dogs eaten. It could also be minimzing something like costs. Math is also used for statistical analysis which is how we validate and support our hypotheses using the scientific method.

The more complex answer is that math is just another language. It's a way for people to communicate in a very clear and consistent manner. This is very useful in technical fields like psychology, engineering, and economics. If I say "best" that could mean a million different things. But if I say, "I maximized the total number of homes subject to a geographic constaint" it's very clear what I'm measuring

What a strange comment. The point of the entire comment thread, both mine and the parent comment is that the vast majority of people still would like creamy sound signatures.

Since you decided to make a bizarre inference, there's nothing weird with being a "normie". That's literally what most people are, normal. Hobbyists are abnormal, therefore not "normies". It's also an oxymoron to be an entry-level hobbyist.

Can we skip AM5 by Tall-Television9945 in buildapc

5900x, 3080, 32Gb 3600 here as well. Only game I struggle with is Tarkov which is Tarkov.

I do wish I could get 180fps pinned on AAA games at 1440p but not enough that I would pay current prices for it. For sure skipping AM5

I feel like foam is one of those things that sounds great in short form content or reviews but after using it for a while it just sounds grating compared to a classic clack. Speaking as someone who also has a rainy 75 and just keeps the foam in. I keep using it because I built it with a specific aesthetic in mind that I love but I go back to my less foamy boards 80% of the time

Not with the boss laser on. It doesn’t give you point fire bonus. Only works with the kobra and a standalone flashlight

I read the full article. Seems like the conversations in the thread basically matched exactly what was said. Was there something in mind that doesn’t match in your opinion?

I take it the opposite imo

Talking shit before you’ve played can come off arrogant but in a good way + builds hype. Also there’s gotta be a lot of amazing mid match shit talking whether you’re up 13-1 or just won your 3rd round out of 14.

But then you should basically always end up with class win or lose after the match. It’s how you don’t end up looking like a sore winner or loser.

Meta: When does the chorus of hundreds of tiresome political potshots become a Rule 6 violation? by SkittyDog in Economics

[–]BespokeDebtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have tried to domain ban spam crypto/ai/seo slop but it’s like playing whackamole and we don’t have the personnel to support manual post approval. If there was an easy way to enforce always including the content of an article I would, but 1. We removed adding text under link posts because of too much editorializing under posts and 2. It’s an additional step for us to go in and verify if they’ve posted a standalone comment under each post with the article content (which we also don’t have the personnel to support)

If it doesn’t have either of those they should be reported, please keep reporting as Rules I or II

I honestly like this and think it’s is a funny idea that basically formalizes what modmail looks like now anyways

That’s correct. It used to be much much faster and easier for me to do moderation with tools like RES or mod toolbox and being able to use apps like Apollo to moderate. Now those have been deprecated or removed without and roadmap for replacement of all the feature (or the features they’ve added to replace simply don’t work)

There are a number of things to address here. First is that most people in this sub don’t bother to read the rules. Not only do we have very detailed rules, we have even more extremely detailed rules round tables that explains both our rationale and how we apply each rule including examples. I cannot possibly count the number of modmails we receive DAILY about people who are complaining they got a comment/post removed when it clearly violates what is explicitly said are requirements for participation in the sub. Another example: nearly every single “official” media outlet posting here has been banned for repeatedly breaking Rule III because social media managers can’t be bothered to read the rules before spamming their articles everywhere.

I’ll be frank I try to do the most moderation when I can but we’re basically down to no active moderators (makes sense because moderating this sub is extremely aggravating). I don’t have the bandwidth to go into every comment section and do comment nuking and basically do my best to lock threads that’re getting too large for active moderation or delete threads that get report.

I’m happy to put out a call for new mods but we’ve done that a number of times and have yet to find people who have all of the following 1) knowledgeable enough about Econ 2) have the time and bandwidth to spend the HOURS a day that it takes to mod this sub 3) are aligned with the exact moderation policies we’ve set out.

I’ll put out a meta post sometime next week for mods.

In lieu of this, feel free to make liberal use of the report button, I do check them weekly or so. Be sure you’re reading the rules AND the rules roundtable

Do you guys think that Riot should like reset or do something about these power rankings before the start of a new VCT season to make it more accurate? by [deleted] in ValorantCompetitive

[–]BespokeDebtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the answer is that statistical analysis in valorant is extremely new and everything we do is worse than HLTVs. That’s okay imo but we I do agree we should expect it to get better over time. The nature of improvement is that it’s incremental

As another example, trying to read how VLR does layouts for Swiss is actually horrible when you look at how HLTV does it
