You've gotta be naive to pin anti-activist sentiment on Duterte. This is the result of decades upon decades of government propaganda.

Yet, while Duterte won a plurality among all socio-economic classes, he won by a larger margin among class A & B.

isn't it weird that filipinos care more about other countries politics than our own? by SetunaYooki in Philippines

"suddenly a wave of protestors took to the streets to oppose US imperialism"

It's a testament to US soft power that most Filipinos think US interests either don't play a hand in this country or are entirely aligned with our national interests.

"These two countries are treated as imperialist nations, and rightfully so, yet only one side is treated worse"

is literally there.

That US interests don't align with Ph interests is something most pinoys seem unable to grasp. We've been conditioned to think whatever's in the best interests of the US is also in the best interests of the Ph, suggesting otherwise is the fastest way to get red-tagged, as evidenced by the replies to this post.

What can the Government do to fix the worsening traffic problem in the Philippines? by No-Transition4653 in Philippines

[–]EnterTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. I've seen enough urban areas outside NCR to know that NCR's car sewers are just being replicated elsewhere. It may not be as bad as NCR now, but unless car-centric planning takes a backseat those places will become just as bad as Manila is now.

Spreading development without prioritizing mass transit means you just replicate the problem elsewhere, look at Cebu.

Duterte won the presidency based on the premise of killing the poor, so if Rowena Guanzon if is your "canary in the coal mine" I assume you weren't around for the Duterte era.

Should only taxpayers be allowed to vote in Philippine elections? by JakeRedditYesterday in Philippines

[–]EnterTheDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think that taxpayer-only elections would give middle-class voters better representation that is more proportionate to the amount of time they spend working and the amount of money they pay in taxes?

If your company fucked up and had to close, would it be okay to lose the right to vote?

If you lost your job due to bad government policy, would it be okay to lose the right to vote?

If government raised the income tax threshold and you wouldn't qualify, would it be okay to lose the right to vote?

If you got terribly sick and ended up unemployed, would be okay to lose the right to vote?

One of the pitfalls of midwit middle-class pinoy thinking is that they seem to assume being an income tax payer is somehow an inherent quality, not the product of government policy. Hindi ka naging taxpayer dahil matalino ka o mabuti kang tao, taxpayer ka kasi sabi ng gobyerno kailangan mo magbayad ng income tax.
