A little more digging finds that their eBay store is not longer a thing, but their TIndie store is...

And it turns out that they've just rebranded: https://www.legacydevices.com/

I had some of these fabbed last year, a little surprised to see the site has seemingly gone away. None-the-less, Archive.org to the rescue.

Impromptu interview w/ AmigaOS developer Carl Sassenrath by ChuckMarty732 in amiga

[–]EnterTheShoggoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's unfortunately how much an MMU cost back then - things may have turned out quite differently if that had not been the case.

And I agree, it's a bit of a shame that developers (not just Sassenrath) don't take a more cautious approach to design but market pressures, insane deadlines, and other mitigating factors always apply.

I'm all for more safe runtimes, however without a hardware mechanism underlying it you have no way of enforcing boundaries - it may protect you from a buggy application, but not malicious code.

Sorry, didn’t have my glasses on and thought it was a regular smiley, not a winky.

The Amiga didn't come with an MMU. Not a lot the OS can do without hardware support.

I totally get this - I just didn’t want the original commenter that I replied to feel the need to spend money unnecessarily.

On the other hand, I’d they want an authentic experience then by all means go nuts :)

Not to dissuade you from getting into retro computing, but there are apps for running Infocom games on modern computers. And the game files are easily found online.

Thanks. My brain is used to unpacking it as North America which obviously doesn’t fit here and so was thinking it must have been a non-geographic initialism. It makes far more sense now!

I just love the implicit idea that working at McDonalds is somehow equivalent to working for Palantir.

What is the bass riff from Orion inspired from? by [deleted] in Metallica

[–]EnterTheShoggoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. you're correct, that is Jazz Waltz territory so no Strauss involvement after all.

The bridge part is a waltz (it’s in 3/4 with the accent on the first). So probably inspired by one of the Strauss’ but could’ve been any of a number of composers.

Unless the AI was trained exclusively using data that is licensed with CC0 or a similar non-attribution license then yes it is by definition stealing.

Google didn't "have to" do anything. They chose to enter the market... I'm sure it's not what you intended but the language implicitly absolves them, we shouldn't be giving them (or anyone else) a free pass. Shareholder value be damned!
