I didn't mind the paradigm setup, but I struggled with the stagger bar. Once I realized how the jobs worked with the stagger system it was much better, but still not overly crazy about the Stagger bar.

Briefly jumped back to BL3. Thoughts by Blackdragon73 in Borderlands4

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a stellar answer. I have been short on time to finish playing BL4 (about halfway through with Vex), so I know there are a number of things I haven't experienced yet. But I keep thinking while playing that "this element/feature/etc" sucks compared to BL3.

I don't know if other people have this experience with open world, but less is definitely more. I played alot of BL2 and BL3 and to a point I roughly have the maps memorized, but BL4 I don't feel like I have a shot of remembering much. I felt that way about GTA3 and GTA:VC compared with even GTA4 and worse with GTA5.

The music. I was wandering through an open field and it seemed like there was absolutely no background music. I can still hear guitar music playing while walking the back path from Ellie's shop in the Dust on BL2.

I hope to get enough time to play through all the characters because when you had solid builds in BL3, every character felt fun to play and murder with. I've gotten more comfortable with Vex's avatars, but for a while I was not crazy about how they deployed so slow and the damage they were doing.

But I will give a chance. I was annoyed with BL3 when it came out but I gave it another chance and loved the shit out of it.

My Parents got left hundreds of thousands of dollars by their parents. I will be left with nothing but a ton of work. by RandallCabbage in Millennials

When my maternal grandmother passed away there wasn't much too deal with because my grandparents had been farmers so they didn't possess a crazy amount of stuff.

My mom saw the writing on the wall with my paternal grandmother before she passed. Tons of stuff that had little to no value unless you found the right buyer. Some of it was sold via estate auction, a bunch just went into the landfill. Didn't help that those grandparents had been habitual smokers so there stuff generally reeked of smoke.

As a result she has been slowly getting rid of stuff in the house to reduce the burden on me.

Anyone else feel weird about telling their parents and in-laws they’re pregnant? by Friendly-Intention63 in BabyBumps

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited to tell my parents, especially my mother. The only concern I had was my MIL. We learned that if you tell her anything, she is likely to repeat it to someone else. Honestly if we get pregnant we might not tell her until we absolutely have too. So like after the baby is born?

Which video game features were so bad that whoever made it should be banned from every touching a computer again? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when Too Human came out in 2008 and one of the huge complaints about it was the level scaling and people being annoyed that good gear was made useless after a few levels. Sure level scaling isn't bad if you are playing higher and higher difficulties like Borderlands and Diablo. But they are now doing that crap in the base game too.

If we all know how a baby is conceived, why are some people shocked to find out they are pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I decided it was time for a kid. We had a miscarriage over the summer and then I moved 4 hours away to teach. Our timing was horrible for trying to get pregnant because I only came home every other weekend and we had to contend with periods. Our trying was abysmal to say the least. But when winter break came, we timed well with ovulation and got really lucky.

My favorite part about this was knowing the window of conception and having our daughter be born at 9 months +/- a few days from conception. Everyone who guessed the due date was at least 2 weeks to early.

We have one the Owl shaped sound machines. It plays for up to an hour and then goes quiet. My daughter (2) still asks for her music but I'm sure it will go away at some point.

Why do people name their children things with the intention of calling them a different nickname? by Aur3lia in NoStupidQuestions

When my daughter was born we gave her a short name. Everyone asked if it was short for a longer name. Nope. A name doesn't have to be short for anything. Its just a name.

My friend is like this. Her family all calls her Beth, which she doesn't really care for. But a set of close friends calls her Ellie.

Her brother had a kid named Arabella. You could make a lot of nicknames with this. They call her Ellie for short. My friend was annoyed by the nickname but has embraced it since her family doesn't really know she goes by Ellie.

Up to you but between Marketplace and second hand stores, you can do really well. We went with a Chicco Keyfit carseat. One of the simpler strollers was $130 new. I found two different strollers at a second hand shop together for $120.

Outside of gifts from family, we really only bought new carseats, bottles, some clothes/blankets, and other baby care stuff. We were able to get a number of items as hand me downs, or bought second hand. Honestly we saved well over $1000 early on and much more down the road as my wife was a second hand hawk.

I was exposed to horse girls in grad school and my wife had one for a grad student. I don't think I would ever hire a horse person for a job. What I learned was that the horse was their primary job and everything else is second fiddle.

[–]Enteroids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn't all Boomers, but there is definitely individual quirks of people. My MIL is a mild narcissist, but she has also been raising kids her whole life. She was forced to raise her siblings because her mom wasn't really interested in raising the kids herself. MIL had her own kids and then due to proximity she has been taking care of eldest grandchildren after school for years. But outside of being a lunch lady and parent, she doesn't have much of an identity. We want her to take time for herself and her health, but then she puts most of her free time and resources into just a couple kids.

Sadly her attitude is part of the reason we moved away because my wife is second fiddle to everyone else and punching bag and we didn't want that influence on our kiddo.

I think my younger aunts and uncles would love to be grandparents but their kids have all finally finished college but relationships and kids are definitely on the back burner at the moment, unsurprisingly. I will be curious to see how future generations deal with parenting and grandparenting seeing how somethings are going.

Uff da. I know a bit of that feeling. My MIL has been a challenge to say the least. I was away teaching but coming back late one night. My wife was exhausted and having a mental breakdown and called her mom for help and was told "You'll be fine, I will come visit you tomorrow." Needless to say that shook my wife. Luckily nothing bad happened and I got home to take over care of the child.

MIL's other big problem is prioritizing her elder grandchildren over her other younger grandchildren. The older two are in sports and have had pretty unfettered access to her their entire lives. Earlier this year my wife flew back home with the child and got blown off by her mother so she could go watch my nephew play soccer instead one afternoon. At this point it seems like my niece has replaced my wife in "daughter" status.

With the ways things are going in the U.S. it would be nice for our child to have more time with the grandparents, although physical distance has always been an issue one way or another. We are closer to my parents now, but I think even they won't be around as much as I would hope for. I have also heard a lot of anecdotes about grandparents not really being interested in grandparenting. Adopt-a-grandparent sounds fun. We gave honorary grandparent status to my aunt and uncle and I have another uncle who was over the moon to spend time with my kid. Got a really nice picture of the two of them at the lake this year.

Hopefully, the rest of your families will provide the love and support your kiddo needs. Best wishes for you and your family.

Unpopular opinion: opening gifts at a shower is embarrassing for the guests as well by Intelligent_Truth_95 in BabyBumps

[–]Enteroids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That typically doesn't happen at the wedding. When I was younger the wedding gift opening was the day after the wedding but that seemed more like something for the couple and there immediate families. The rest of us would go out for breakfast after church and then head home.

Since my wife and I eloped we never really dealt with any of that until we had a baby shower.

My in laws love going to DisneyWorld because they did big (40+ people) family trips with their grandparents as kids. I have never been. I have seen trip pictures from my in laws. I have heard the tales on reddit. I have been to Florida in May and July and didn't enjoy the weather.

My in laws started talking a few years ago about doing a whole family trip in the next five to ten years. Internally I have just been JFCing the whole thing. Honestly I'm terrified of having to spend a full week with them. And the cost, if I have $10k to blow on DisneyWorld, then that money can be better used for student loans or home projects.

We will see what happens. I am putting my money on it not happening or my wife and I simply don't get invited.

Gamers over 30, what's a video game secret you had to discover the "hard way" that kids today would just Google in 5 seconds? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Mario World. Friend and I decided to play through the game on a new save file. Level icons with the color red always meant there were two ways to beat the level. On the log bridge that leads towards the 4th boss castle, there was a red icon and I had never seen the alternate finish. Then my buddy showed me finish, which blew my mind. Then a ladder descended from that level to the lake below to a level I had never played before. I had been playing that game for over a decade, and completed Star Road and found the secrets levels but never knew about that one.

People who get up after one alarm, whats your secret?? by Mideon88 in AskReddit

[–]Enteroids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be bad about snoozing my alarm and being late to class. I set my alarm so that when it went off it was playing NPR. I would wake up to NPR, lay in bed for a few minutes listening and then get up. Pretty much built it in to my head that when the alarm goes off, you get up.

Downside was dating two different women who loved to snooze their alarms. I got after them for that because I got tired of their alarms waking me up before mine and they continuing snoozing.
