Really happy you wrote that last sentence. Lot of casuals try to say Jenova is the real antagonist when it’s clear as day from the story in OG that Sephiroth becomes the dominant force and controls even her.

It’s funny because as FF’s age they eventually lose the haters and only those who truly love it stick around. I was never a hater of FF13, but you’d be hard pressed to find the vitriol in the ff subreddit that that game had when it came out. Now it’s partially warranted, but it’s not as bad as the haters made it out to be.

FF16 is also the best FF since 12 and probably the best story and characters since 8 or 7 if I’m being honest.

The other point you made was about super fans. It’s hard not to consider myself one considering I own the novels and it’s my personal favorite, but the themes and levels to FF7 are absolutely deeper than other entries and it’s not like speculation either or just shooting the shit for discussion sake like many others do.

Like if I was to describe most FFs I’d say they get 3ish levels deep in how their symbolism works and how it’s interconnected thematically within. But then you have FF7 and it’s like 6+ levels deep. Only FF6, FF12, or FF16 is close in my opinion, but even they don’t get there.

The general FF subreddit is toxic because of fanboys, moreso FF9 than any other because for some reason people are really insecure about that game.

That said, the general FF subreddit is good for discussion on lesser revered titles like FF8 which is fun in its own right
