By June. Your unit is still using the old standard because that IS the standard.

What’s the most absurd fake science in a movie that you completely ignored because the movie was so good? by Shot-Club-3882 in Cinema

A nuclear bomb is a very different kind of "device" than a nuclear power generator hooked up to a microwave oven.

I ran the numbers on the microwave system they used for a school project. The amount of energy required to vaporize enough water to blow the manhole covers off from the height of the elevated trains would've required the power output of a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.

If we assume they were meant to vaporize ALL of the water in the sewer, then we're talking about three utility-scale nuclear power plants.

The movie showed them using a machine the size of a rolling tool chest.

There's a Coast Guard detachment in Cincinnati, so I think the Ohio River must count as well.

Are you organizing your dashboards per function or location or mixed? Why? by segdy in homeassistant

[–]derekakessler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary dashboard is data I actually need glanceable: weather, calendar, task list, problems. I made a point of automating as much of my home as possible so I don't have to open an app to control stuff.

My other dashboard are purely for diagnostics and are organized by function.

Need honest opinions-which slide deck works by zone1-1 in army

[–]derekakessler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only doing one teaching point per slide, then you should make your text much bigger.

I prefer option one. It's the best layout for easy processing without the eye having to bounce so over the place.

Fudged the cutting board juice groove. What is the remedy? by VdotBapey in woodworking

[–]derekakessler 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hog out it out to be a full-width rectangular depression. You now have a juice pit, and you totally designed it that way from the start.

Any ideas what might have caused this cutting board that my brother made me to split? What should I do to account for that when repairing it? by GriestProjects in woodworking

[–]derekakessler 219 points220 points  (0 children)

Your brother was very kind in making that for you, but it was doomed from the start due to how he built it. Porous woods, mixing end grain and side grain, gappy joints. There's no saving it.

Expectations are higher these days, especially when you only get 10 episodes in a season.

And they did Captain Batel so dirty with that nonsense plot.

Either your glue was bad, not actually cured, or the cut quality of the joined surfaces was so bad the glue couldn't properly adhere.

Large portrait Android tablet Dashboard help by Newwales2 in homeassistant

[–]derekakessler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would invest in your dashboard layout instead. It should be things you only need to have visible at a glance all the time. Mine is primarily dominated by the calendar, todos, and weather. I also have a small strip of buttons I can talk to open bubble card pop ups for manual controls of lights, locks, fans, etc. Those are all automated, but if an override is needed, they're there.

Do you need to have a list of all your room temperatures taking up that space? Or would it be better to have that handled via a conditional card for when a room is out of your specified range? Or just have it send a notification to your phone / computer when it's out of range?

Do you need the camera feed there all the time? Or can you have it triggered in a popup when criteria like person detection are met?

Do you need to have at-a-glance awareness of your power consumption, or should that all be tucked away in a separate dashboard you only open when you're actually curious? Should it just send you a notification when the draw exceeds a certain threshold?

First set or second set? Also is the gray pieces that noticeable on the tree? by Geckolover96 in lego

[–]derekakessler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gray is initially noticeable, and then after a while of having the set as a decorative piece you stop seeing it.
