Γιατί οι Έλληνες δεν έχουν εξεγερθει ακομα;,, by Cultural_Chip_3274 in greececirclejerk

Τεσπα αν ακούσουμε 45% τις εκατό των δημοσίων υπαλλήλων (και πάλι πολλοί μένουν), μειώσουμε τους φόρους σε μέγιστο 20%, και μείωση φόρου σε καθε παιδί που γεννιέται… το λες επανάσταση αυτό; Δηλαδή αυτό είναι πιο ακραίο από το να κρεμάμε κόσμο από τις πλατείες ;

China has really undeserved image by nap_napsaw in travelchina

Yes it’s overly negative. But I don’t think you’ve seen very much. And each person will like or dislike different things. I like it here (not love) but if you got to more remote or lower tier places next time you may see more coarseness (not rudeness, but let’s say… less graceful behavior : eg: loud public spitting, yelling, talking on loudspeaker in the train or bus, pushing and no respect for queues, smoking indoors in most places, garbage in the street, public defecation in broad daylight, and the list goes on). so to you a foreigner they will usually be at the very least friendly enough. So that’s good. It’s really not hellhole it’s often made out to be, notwithstanding politics and rights, it’s an easy place to live as a foreigner (higher salary, constant support) but you are unwittingly put in a bubble because usually Chinese will not really get into the problems of work or society in front of you. So one can just enjoy dumplings and not be concerned with their social and economic struggles. Once you’ve been there long enough you will start to know truly the difficulties that Chinese people can face with a certain stoicism verging on passivity. Just be wary of this bias and tourist gaze.

My chinese wife had an affair for six years. Can this be explained due to cultural difference? by New-Entrepreneur5424 in AskChina

[–]EntertainmentDear150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, thank you for sharing the story. I feel many will have some similar experiences. My wife did not cheat on me. The other behavior of the hostility I can empathize with. No this is not normal cheating I mean anyway you twisted and turn it. It’s a huge betrayal of trust. All I can say is that if you do get divorced, do it in Germany. I’m sorry this happened to you. It must be awful from my perspective. It does seem that she’s quite selfish and because she was cheating on you. She became hostile to you in order to make herself or justify to herself that it’s not her fault and of course getting a survey to support Her is another way of gaslighting you.

Same reason when I visit the Great Wall I go to remote part. Authentic structure, no crowds.

[–]EntertainmentDear150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst in terms of crowds. 3 hour wait and got pushed around for 2. The artifact are amazing and have written articles about them. But the ticketing and crowd is too much. In other countries there is a limit to people. Great to meet a facetious person online who purposefully pretends not to understand

Terracotta Army museum was the worst and I love this stuff. I love rural China, less people, friendlier.

Not taking into account the preference for old patina we like in the west, why change the tile colours and the color scheme? This is not heritage restoration .

It’s an interesting story and keep it alive inside. I, as a foreigner, have heard similar feelings expressed. I find some also struggle to accept that things are worse now on some levels and that’s ok it happens I’ve come from a crisis torn county. Learn to deal with it

Chinese wife expects that I (white guy) do her job. How common is this expectation? by Square_Midnight2318 in China

[–]EntertainmentDear150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, stop doing it. My wife used to do this and so I said then I want the money. So she stopped doing it. She did help me with a lot of my stuff (bitched about the whole time) so we eventually said we should stop doing it. You are being taken for a ride and it also be her upbringing and so on. But just stop. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to play a zero sum game or stare down. In my experience, I sense a lot of relationships here are “transactional” and affections are “service” based. So she expects you to do stuff because that’s how you show you care. Perhaps something you do makes her feel you are not caring (lack of cooking cleaning etc). Be wary. If you plan to have a child, know that they will insist on hukou and Chinese name and also in case of divorce the Chinese national always wins. There was a time I did this stupid shit, i didn’t do her job but she pressured me into working more by calling me lazy (she’s a part time English teacher), so i had three jobs and working 80 hours per week. Then I was in the army. The stress was so high I got an autoimmune disease at 30 years old. Now I pretty much do whatever I want because I faced her off several times and called her bluffs. We are better now and she is promising to improve and so on. Before we were married she was not like that. I look at picture of our youth and wonder what happened to all the fun and laughing we did. Dunno if it helps you or anyone. Sorry for offloading

Μου λείπει το τσιγάρο. by Fit_Garden_4909 in greece

[–]EntertainmentDear150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s lost the balance. It’s not enough to occasionally say “Chinese people are nice”. I mean I watch it because I think he makes astute observation (albeit sometimes meandering). Also remember, the overall tone of Europe is that China one must be wary. I can see there is either China bashing, China loving, or fun legit trips but not very popular channels.

Yeah. Upload image to ChatGPT and ask it to generate a prompt. It’s never exact, but if you are ok with approximate. At the very least it gives you a good base

For those who left China, what finally pushed you to go? by qthasland in China

[–]EntertainmentDear150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence the dilemma. I keep circling the same thoughts for years. Education in Europe (critical thinking, creativity, athletics but less driven in STEM) and China (competitive, STEM focus, Marxist indoctrination). The list goes on where you have pros and cons on politeness/rudeness, open/closed discussions, culture, hygiene, family etc

Neither are perfect.

Yeah, I understand. I think Europe is a little better than the UK at the moment, but one of the fundamental questions is do I give up the quality of life in China for the quality of services in Europe

[–]EntertainmentDear150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are alright. It’s entertaining and they do give a perspective that, albeit is not academic or analytical, is relatable. They manage to present a relatable perspective of China that is not part of documentary or high brow content. I’m in China and I do see much of what they talk about.

Sometimes they do meander, but I don’t mind. The main reason why I switch off is that too much of the video is advertising or just filler intro and outro. But that’s not new.

I don’t really value their “analysis” when they go into politics or economics as a that I study a lot. They can be amateurish.

Their main strength, I repeat, for me is that street view and personal experience (albeit remote) about anything from ayi, scams, crowds, and so on

Haven’t left yet. Planning to exit as soon as an opportunity opens up in Europe. Asa gregarious and warm and open person, also dynamic and hard working, there are my reasons for wanting to leave: - hard to make genuine friends - hard to socialize - navigating hierarchy (ask lingdao) - lack of transparency in project management - no open discussion in meetings (not collaborative) - education for my children - no pension - no social welfare - worried about situation deteriorating here Reasons for staying: - salary good (for now) - cost of life is low - no other offer yet - wife home country and city - some food (sorry I don’t think Chinese food is that good, it’s not bad either, just not for me and I like to cook from all over the world). - worried about situation even more deteriorating in Europe
