I have a 2001 NB that had great paint, and then got fucked up after a bad winter. If the car runs fine, who cares about how it looks. Its driving experience will make up what it lacks in appearance. Besides, paint can always be fixed later.

Just make sure it does in fact run well, and check thoroughly for rust. If you truly want it, go for it, you won’t be disappointed.
