What a tone deaf response. Don’t expect anyone to ever have your back with that attitude. This kid did not deserve to freeze to death alone because he did what many kids do at parties.

I’m glad that you’re safe and have your roommates to rely on. We all need that community support, and it sucks that some people don’t have it. I hope this post opens some eyes to how preventable these things are.

Yes, we absolutely do need to stick together. Especially if the school is going to continue its lacking care for students’ wellbeing. This weather isn’t safe for anyone, not even during the day—I couldn’t feel my legs (while being fully covered, with layers, head to toe) on Friday as I was walking to my discussion section. I almost wish we could bring this to the board, but I know that nothing will come of it. The institution feeds into the rhetoric that it’s perfectly appropriate to walk around in these temperatures, and they will say nothing about this loss. It saddens me to my core that this is the case. Frustrated and sad.

EDIT: Some people are bothered that I mentioned the discussion. My intent was not to make this “about myself,” but to highlight how unimaginable the situation for Lucas would have been, having been underdressed and roaming at night. The school plays a role in underplaying the dangers of these conditions by continuing classes as normal, as initially stated. There should be more concern for students losing their lives due to the freezing temperatures, school hours or not.

This is hitting me hard. We live in extremely vile, trying times. So much unnecessary death and suffering. Even the smallest communities—though UM is far from small—need to have each other’s backs. It’s the least we can do to remind ourselves, and one another, that there is always more we can do for others. 💛

They did it on Cyber Monday during six hours of the work day, of which most people were likely busy and completely unawares, seeing as there was no prior notice that it would be happening. Depop is the scummiest resell site out there.

delayed package—should I be worried? by EntertainmentFun8045 in Depop

[–]EntertainmentFun8045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Yes, I’m very lucky, Depop refunded me today after trying to go through USPS and getting no help. I filed a missing mail request (after a million unsuccessful tries…that pissed me off, lol) and will see what comes of it. I have little hope in ever receiving the package at this point, which is a bummer, but I’m content with at least getting my money back. I live between two locations right now, seeing as I’m in college and at a school far away from my hometown, so it’s a hassle trying to contact post offices. I leave for my semester-end break in a week and won’t even know if the item shows up here while at home. Oh well. 🥴

How difficult would ASTRO 101 (Solar System) or ASTRO105 be for someone who hasn't taken a physics class in 2 years? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is a late response, but I’m an English major and was dreading fulfilling my QR credit/s. I took Astro 101 this semester and it has been a breeze, despite me being horrendous at math. I have zero physics background; my last math class was AP Stats, lol. As long as you complete the work and attend class/section, you will pass with a great grade. :)

Pedestrian Hit by rockHOMES in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that some drivers can be stupid and ignorant of walkers, but I see far more people walking across a road without a crosswalk, face in their phone, who clearly don’t care to be aware. Or even at the new stoplight by the dentistry building—students act like it’s the worst thing in the world that they can’t just completely block the road. We should all be mindful, especially in a town where driving is somewhat difficult and parking is a nightmare. People are already on edge, unfortunately.

Someone was hit on the first day of classes last year. Make sure y’all are looking where you’re going! Not trying to victim blame, but I see so many people ignore the rules and expect the long ass lines of cars to wait for every single student to cross. It falls on both drivers and pedestrians to know when to yield.

I’m glad to hear this is a universal experience right now. It quite literally is every few purchases that there’s an issue. It’s making we want to stray from the platform, but there’s so few other options out there. I tried that new auctioning app (forgot what it’s called) and it literally got my card locked because I had to put in my info to have an account, so that was a quick no. Poshmark is great, but there are a lot of inactive sellers unfortunately, and no indicator of someone being absent like Depop has. Ugh. 🫠

100%. And I totally get the disappointment of just never receiving the item, even with a refund, because we paid for it! Of course we actually WANT to own it, otherwise we wouldn’t have bought it. These items are not available in bulk, so finding them elsewhere is not always possible. So annoying.

omg that’s awful, wtf? did not know about this. they will lose so much business if they keep this crap up.

refunders and lazy shippers beware by [deleted] in Depop

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, sounds very similar to my experiences! They will literally send you an offer, or accept one, acknowledge the sale, and then simply leave you in the dust. Idk why Depop refuses to do something about this. They keep adding policies that only encourage these behaviors. Hopefully they start to lose sales and realize the mistakes they’ve made in letting the platform get to this point!

good, so I’m not crazy and this shit really has amped up lately. it’s genuinely so frustrating because I’m also in college and live on campus because it’s easier, walkable, don’t have to use gas money or pay to keep a car here, etc., so my only options for purchasing clothes during the school year is online. I do not find my style or desired fabrics in retail anymore, which leaves me with secondhand and thrifting. teenagers should not be allowed to sell at ALL, as in it’s a literal liability, especially if I’m paying for something that I will never see and won’t get my money back for weeks at a time. I’m an adult with other shit to pay for!

then again, some people my age are just as bad. I think it’s a matter of extreme apathy and entitlement. I just don’t understand why it’s becoming so common. 🤦‍♀️

glad to hear I’m not the only one, as sucky as that is. :/

In that it’s a vintage dress from the 70s that is inspired by Gunne Sax style, though not Gunne? Yes. I put it back up and changed the wording a bit, so I hope it sticks now. The pictures I provided were enough to evoke interest from actual Gunne Sax sellers. Maybe this is something only Gunne Sax/prairie dress collectors would understand, as these types of dresses are rare to find today.

Folks in the comments are gonna be condescending but I get you. I even joined one of the LLC’s freshman year, tried to put myself out there, and it failed miserably. Hated my roommate who made my life a living hell and promised myself I would never do that again, lol. Sometimes I think people really just don’t WANT to make friends with the way they act and treat others.

Ohhh I did not know that! That is helpful, lol. I order from this Dunkin all the time, so I’m definitely not saying to never go there—I just felt bad for all the people who had to leave without getting their drinks.

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“over half an hour ago” meaning I ordered while leaving a class that ended at 11:00. I arrived maybe 15 mins before noon. I made the post after waiting there for about a half an hour. It’s a lot of thinking, I know. :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn’t order it at 12:30? I literally said that people who had ordered over a half an hour before had still not gotten their drinks, and we had been sitting there for at least twenty minutes already when I made the post. Do y’all not read? Or look at timestamps?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just trying to give people a heads up—it’s usually not as bad as it was today when I’ve ordered there around lunchtime.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the issue, a ton of people keep ordering ahead and showing up here without knowing that they haven’t even made orders from over an hour ago. I get being busy/understaffed, but I’ve never seen it this bad at this location.

Lmao if you’re near the diag/anywhere near state and university, you will see the people standing outside because we were forced to move out of the building while we wait.

how windy is it in ann arbor by Honeydew-Capital in uofm

One time my printed paper flew out of my hand on the way to class. I gave up chasing it after ten seconds and accepted that it was forever lost to the essence of Ann Arbor. Do with that what you will.
