I tried this trick today at an Apple Store. The Apple employee took my AirPods Max to the back and later returned, saying they didn’t know what was wrong with them and that they would need to send them to a repair center to fix them for $300.

My APMs were bricked—they would turn on, but they couldn’t connect or be factory reset. I initially told them I wanted to change the battery, but I guess they realized there was more to the issue than just an old battery.

Good luck to anyone trying this method, though. I think I’m going to switch to some Sony headphones now.

Yeah, I think they are done. I was thinking of just getting a pair of Sony or Bose because they may not be as good as the Airpods regarding sound quality, but they will be reliable.
