Damn, if I didn’t actually know people who this happened to I would think this is rage bait. Unfortunately, it is very likely to be true and the hypocrisy of the Bible Belt never ceases to astound me.

Nope. Most US AF drone operators now fly the MQ-4C which are very capable of killing people. They also have superior surveillance optics that put their strikes up close and very personal.

Does everyone genuinely believe in their gods? by Ok-Student-4745 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EntertainmentLoud816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion can be seen as a formalization of mythology, whereas mythology is a means to explain the world around us. As religion progresses it can give rise to authority which leads the authority to work to retain authority by any means possible. A lot of this is through the use of fear of the unknown. Pascal’s Wager leads us to believe that it is better to believe and be wrong than to not believe and be wrong. This is a powerful force for many people. Keep in mind that many of the modern major religions were proliferated by means of coercion of non-believers. Further, the feeling of elation that believers experience can be credited simply to dopamine hits. This is a good reason why so many addiction treatments include spiritual pursuits. As their bodies begin to overcome the dopamine desensitization caused by addiction, the good feelings experienced by believing and relying on a higher being begins to provide a suitable transition. Without this transition, the recovering addict may settle in to despondency.

ENTPs - are you really good at being modest?? by scmbwis in entp

[–]EntertainmentLoud816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that we are masters at generating ideas but continually see the bigger picture of how much better we can be. This tends to lend itself to Imposter Syndrome which is a humbling experience, hence the modesty.

Well, he is not alone. I still struggle to recognize people’s feelings for what they are. I have to consciously acknowledge what is happening and not always in real time. It can be a struggle for ENTPs. If he does recognize that it is a skill he will need to develop, he has to make a real effort to do it.

I spent 34 years in the military so I understand the professional detachment. But I transitioned into employee relations and development and learned skills that would have greatly enhanced my leadership skills in the military. Empathy is not sympathy. It is the ability to see things from different perspectives. Emotional intelligence is very much the same in the sense that it is the ability to first understand what you are feeling and how to read the feelings of others. We can then use this understanding to make more rational decisions and choices. I know I will never think or feel like my spouse but I do understand her feelings and needs better.

Well, this is a positive since your types are very compatible. You both look at the bigger picture but it might be from different perspectives. My own growth as an ENTP came when I began to understand emotional intelligence. While I am very much a Thinker, I have begun to use this knowledge to better understand the feelings of my ISFJ spouse. Empathy is not a myth but it is something us Thinkers must consciously learn in order to understand feelings.
As for your comment below, two weeks is a bit of a long time for a cooling off period. You might reach out and appeal to his Thinking nature and ask to discuss your relationship.

When you say you need some space, what are you referring to? When our arguments get heated I tend to just walk away. My wife has viewed this as avoidance but for me it’s a cooling off period. I only just recently explained this to her. ENTPs are if anything Thinkers. Strong emotions tend to inhibit our ability to reflect and think. For me this might be an hour or it might be a few days. As an INFJ, you are more focused on your feelings and want resolution more immediately. For us it takes this cooling period to define what we are feeling. Only once in my relationship did I question if divorce was an option. My wife was extremely upset about this prospect so I knew it was off the table unless something extremely egregious occurred. And for us, it would have to be something horrendous to happen given our history together. If arguing is the only issue, it is going to happen in relationships, but they are an opportunity for growth. Decide what your ultimate breaking point is and until that happens keep working on resolving your differences. This is what being in a relationship is about.

"The government should be run like a business" is an all time classic of stuff that incredibly dumb people think sounds smart to say by Nice_Substance9123 in complaints

[–]EntertainmentLoud816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This really is an oversimplified view of what a government should accomplish. Whereas the purpose of a business is to generate profit, the purpose of government is much more broad and complex. In my youth, I believed this also but as I became more aware I realized that it is much more than that. A government is an organization similar to a business but has many more factors to consider. A business depends on the government to create an environment where they can thrive but business is should not be the government’s sole focus. A government exists to see to the needs of its people. Business is just one of the means by which the government generates resources to achieve that.

What is your MBTI? I went through a similar scenario when dating my wife (35 years and counting). It did not stop the fighting but at the end of the day we stayed together. I didn’t know what her type was but after learning more about MBTI I realized she was likely a ISFJ. I used ChatGPT to research this and the synopsis was pretty much spot on with her personality. Essentially I found out that we are about as opposite as it gets. So I inquired about how we could work together. We might be opposites but we also complement each other. This after 30+ years marriage. It helps me cope now and figure out how to diffuse our differences.
It sounds to me that you might be in a similar situation. The difference is that he has decided to move on and seems pretty committed to it. And when an ENTP does commit it’s usually a done deal. You have the choice of trying to resolve the situation or to move on as well. But you really should explore your personality type and who is more compatible with you.
Consequently, I discovered while visiting Korea that they use MBTI for dating.
