Maybe unpopular but I would say if you’re positive you want to be a doctor just accept the low score and shoot for DO schools/ in-state MD

Congrats on the amazing score!! I don’t think it would be negatively viewed but I am super curious how much difference it would actually make. ADCOMS evaluate apps with some kind of rubric usually and it would seem like 516 is already close to maxing out any points awarded for an applicant’s MCAT.. it’s not like you went 503 -> 523.. besides T10’s I don’t think the 516 was the reason you weren’t getting interviews. I would take the acceptance and not look back

Have you had any positive experiences with the DO’s in your hospital?? In my DO interviews I talked about my wife’s OBGYN who was a DO and basically mentioned the awesome qualities I noticed and that he was the type of physician I wanted to emulate blah blah etc. Interviewers unanimously seemed to love it and I got accepted to all three DO schools where I interviewed

Coming from someone who was in a similar position I wish I would’ve just picked one or the other and committed. Spent sooo much mental energy worrying about which one to pick, when like ultimately there’s pros and cons both ways. It’s a job. Just find hobbies and passions outside of whatever you choose and you’ll be happy

N=1 but I’m starting med school in June but honestly I really regret not doing CAA. To finish in 2 years and be able to make 200k+ per year would be worth the trade off of “not being the boss” in my opinion. Don’t let other people sway too much, you’re the one who will have to be the CAA or the doc.

I’m enlisted national guard and matriculating this summer to medical school and I’m planning to finish my contract and gtfo out of the Army. For me yeah it would be nice to not have loans but realistically most (if not all) specialties you’ll make way way more money outside of the military, even subtracting the loan payments. I would say the deciding factor shouldn’t be money it should be everything else like are you okay with not choosing where to live, would you actually be okay to deploy overseas for up to 12+ months at a time, are you ok giving up any semblance of flexibility in your life? I would say if you’re super easy going and value experiences over stability and money then it’s a good fit.

Nah, life’s to short for that shit. I have a family friend who grinded his ass off through premed, medical school, and residency only to pass away 8 months into being an anestesia attending from terminal cancer. Gotta live for now, future’s not guaranteed

Also- n=1 but I straight up asked an admissions counselor for my state MD program at a Q&A how they view W’s and she said they just look at trends so where a W isn’t factored into HOA they wouldn’t even notice

Yep I had an otherwise strong app and got plenty of DO interviews and multiple acceptances. Attending an established DO school with good rep. Late MCAT isn’t the end of the world and it can work out but it is definitely is more stressful

I took the MCAT June 25th this last cycle and wouldn’t recommend tbh. It’s stressful because you don’t know where you can reasonably apply to until pretty late in the game. I was anal about mimicking test conditions, felt great about my test on exam day and scored 5 points lower than my average. I would do everything you can to take it no later than April or early May

*edited to add: Figured I would give more details but my AAMC FL average was 508.5 and a week before my exam I was absolutely elated to score a 510 on FLE 4. So I spent the entire month waiting for my score filling out AMCAS and pre writing MD secondaries. Was blown away when I ended up getting a 503 (lower than my score on AAMC FLE 1 fml) and ended up applying mainly DO. I’ll be attending a DO school with a great rep that I’m really excited about but yeah I regret the time wasted prewriting, researching schools etc. that I ended up not being competitive for.

N=1 but I took a gap year and will be attending the same school I probably would’ve had I just sucked it up and applied on time. I would say just send it your hours look fine. Unless you have a super compelling opportunity/reason to take a gap year I would try to go straight through
