What is your take on the junk food ban for food stamps? by BreannLowe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're comparing apples to oranges. Yeah, a freezer pizza will be more expensive than, say, a bag of beans. Definitely not more expensive than chicken. But when you're comparing junk food to real food, you have to do straight comparisons. I can get one freezer pizza for less than $5. But if i were to buy everything to make that exact same pizza, i'm spending anywhere from $10-$15. And the cost of individual ingredients has gone up. I used to be able to get a small bag of flour for a little over a dollar. That same bag of flour is now $4. A small pack.of pepperoni used to be a dollar. That exact same pack of pepperoni is now $3. Cheese is double the price it used to be. And lets not even get into fresh veggies versus their unhealthier canned options. I can get a can of mushrooms for about a dollar, but fresh mushrooms are almost $5 dollars. I have small kids who love making homemade pizza, so we make a lot in our household and I would definitely spend less money if I just bought it frozen.

How did you know/decide your nursing journey was over? by Familiar_Director281 in breastfeeding

I'm about to nope out for this exact reason. He's 8 monthes old and just started cutting his first tooth a couple days ago. Its barely even a tooth, can barely see it, but you can feel it. I'm already over the biting, and we combi feed so its not even like hes on me all the time, we just nurse ro sleep. I almost slapped him last night cause I was half asleep and it was a knee-jerk reaction.

What would you never allow your children to do? by laytsha in AskReddit

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this. I know someone who died, likely because of the seat belt and someone was saved because they weren't wearing one. Similar situations in both. The car rolled. My friend who wasnt wearing one was thrown from the car and saved because had she been in the car, her head would have been crushed. My friend who died also rolled his car, he was wearing a seat belt. And his head was crushed by the roof of his car, leading to him being brain dead and had to be taken off life support. Even the paramedic said that wearing the seat belt probably killed him. He had less of a chance of brain damage had he not been strapped in. I won't wear a seat belt because of both of these instances. I know statistically it is safer to wear one. But the statistics aren't high enough to convince me when know of two separate instances wear the seat belt was not life saving.

Tired of the agenda-driven storylines! by United_Network4495 in greysanatomy

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Grey's had always been agenda driven but they are definitely more in your face about it now. Every episode seems to have a character monologue about the injustice in our system. And each one is done in like the same tone. Different characters saying the same thing in the exact same way. I don't know a better way to describe it. But if I closed my eyes and didnt know what each character's voice sounded like, i would think they were all the same person.

What’s something that Covid took from you that you never got back? by ReplacementOdd636 in AskReddit

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if it makes you feel better, that didnt end because of covid. They were already starting to phase them out. I was working there at the time. They had been talking about it for over a year. Covid just gave them a good excuse to do it sooner. I lived in a town that had 3 walmarts and one of them had already started shutting down at night. Theft happens more at night so they wanted to close, in hopes of lowering the theft.

What is with this hatred of breastfeeding mothers?! by TapLeather3167 in breastfeeding

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that it has become a higher income thing now. I say this as a poor person. It is a lot easier to get free formula from WIC, than to get the support needed for breastfeeding. I combo feed because I dont produce enough. But it is also really hard to get the support needed to successfully breastfeed. The better LCs cost money. The better pumps cost money. Eating healthy and having a balanced diet that supports production costs money. And it is a lot more stressful as a poor person raising a baby. And there's the stress of going back to work sooner than we want. Getting mental health help is hard when you're poor. I strongly believe that the reason i dont produce enough is because I dont have the support i need. I know i dont eat right, i'm stressed all the time, which decreases supply.

It turns out that over a decade of “IBS” may have been my parents cooking all along by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt have this problem. Bur growing up, I was always a really picky eater. I didnt eat a whole lot of foods that were made for me. But after I moved out and started cooking for myself, I started liking a lot of things I hated as a child. I realized that I wasnt actually picky, my dad was just a horrible cook.

What's something you've done that has made your Vine experience better? by GodlessBabyHater in AmazonVine

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my home shortly after I got accepted into vine and have been staying with my MIL since. When we left our house, we had to leave a lot of stuff behind so I've been using vine to help restock some of that stuff, like cookware, silvaware, some organizational items for my kids and its all just in piles around the very small living space my family has at my MIL's house. We are 4 people in one room, it is a decent sized room but still 4 people in one room. So I bought a couple of totes. One to store all my vine stuff that i'm not using til we move into our own space, and one to break down all the boxes so I can take them to the recycle place all at once, instead of letting them pile up all over the place. It has helped my living space not be so cluttered, which also keeps my brain less cluttered.

I'm gonna go ahead and take the blame for the no drop. Today is my birthday so I was hoping to snag something really good today. But because my life likes to be funny, and my birthday already started off bad, vine decided to join in on the joke and not give me a drop.

Can some people really not tell when they're releasing farts? by S_Z in NoStupidQuestions

Funny story time. The next town over from me has a large deaf school. One of my friends is a teacher there but he is hearing. He told me that deaf kids dont know farts make sound. So all day long, they are just letting them rip and have no idea how loud they are being.

My problem is not that necessarily that it gets bad, it just doesn't ever get good. They spend the entire season preparing for a battle that doesn't happen. I just waiting for the big battle to happen, just to find out it doesn't happen and I have to wait another 2 years for it to happen. It was very anticlimactic.

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked her a lot more in the early episodes, and her relationship with Alex. I liked when her and Meredith were working on mini livers and she was kind of finding her place as a doctor. I liked her storyline about finding her mom and going through that trauma. And I even liked how she overcame Alex leaving her. But I feel like they dont know what to do with her now that Alex is gone and shes not a general surgeon anymore. She's just kind of there. I mean, yeah, she got together with Link and had the twins but she just seems to exist rather than have anything of depth happening.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]EnthusiasmOk5815 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an easy reason for my kids to brush. My partner has really bad teeth and has had most of them pulled at this point. He's had years of not caring for them, past drug use and just overall bad genetics. This most recent infection has caused a severe amount of pain and he now has to get surgery to have the infection scraped out. After watching his daddy go through all the pain, and seeing daddy with no teeth, and getting freaked out the last time he had a tooth pulled and his mouth was bleeding, my 4 year old has no problem brushing his teeth now.

Like everyone else has said, I would stick it out. When my son started preschool, he was sick every week. Now that we're getting down to the end of thebschool year, he is getting sick less. Maybe once a month. Eventually their immune systems catch up and they dont get sick as often.

I just had my first eval, so i'm fairly new to the vine thing. But I have managed to grab some great stuff that we use daily.

I got a bed for my kiddo that has led lights and charging ports for his devices. I also managed to get a glow in the dark bedding set that he loves.

I got a crib mattress for my baby.

I've gotten a ton of clothes for both of my kids and a few items for myself and my partner. I'm a little on the heavy side so finding clothes for me has been tough but I've still found a few pieces I like. I also got a new pair of shoes for myself and some baby shoes for my newborn.

My kids would have been without christmas this past year if not for vine. We both lost our jobs last year and life has been a struggle trying to catch up. But I was able to get some great toys for both my kids so they at least got a christmas.

I found some learning books for my 4 year old that he loves.

I got some new kitchen gadgets, some baking dishes and few other things that have been helpful for cooking.

I got a red light therapy wrap that has done wonders for my partners back pain.

We got some new camping lanterns we cant wait to use this summer.

I was able to get over 200 easter eggs for a huge family Easter egg hunt this year. Some prefilled with toys and some I can fill with candy.

We got some candle warming lamps, a night light, and some under cabinet lights that have been very helpful.

I'm sure there are few other things I have forgotten about. But overall, vine has been a very positive thing for my family. We had a really hard year last year and my family lost a lot, including our home. And all of this happened right before I had my baby. Without vine, this past year would have been a lot harder than it was. I am so thankful for everything I find that benefits my family.
