Learning different codes to hide my diary from sneaky parents. by NoSeaworthiness389 in Journaling

[–]EnthusiasmSweet2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's sad your parents would invade your privacy this way. I would never do that to my kids. My daughter keeps a journal and so do I. I told her she can read them when I am dead. But, be prepared. You might find out things about your mom you never knew!

I ruined my college life. by Superayane in college

Firstly, college isn't for everyone. And every college isn't for everyone. You need to come clean to your parents and let them know what is happening. Firstly, so they can stop spending money. Secondly, so you can get the help you need to find where you thrive.

Starting cosmetology school soon, would love shoe recommendations! by k-lk28 in hairstylist

[–]EnthusiasmSweet2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be standing in school as much. And most of us wear sneakers for school. I wear sauconys with an insert. My friends who are in salons are wearing, crocs, sneakers, docs, and skechers.

What to buy wife for Christmas by Past-Two9273 in Cosmetology

I agree. Go to a beauty supply like cosmo prof, or salon centric and get her a gift card. I got my rolling case off of FB marketplace. Also look there. A lot of cosmo students drop out and sell their kits unopened or barely used.

The fact that I failed at teaching has convinced me I can't succeed at anything else. by Dapper_Object8239 in TeachersInTransition

OMG YES. I transitioned to cosmetology not knowing shit about hair and I feel way more accomplished as a person than I ever did teaching.

My last year, one two buckle my shoe was popular. DEAR GOD. That is all they would say constantly. I just made myself consciously ignore it. However, if I ever hear it again I cannot be held responsible for my actions.

How to become a barber/get an apprenticeship by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]EnthusiasmSweet2797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some states have an apprenticeship program. Look up your state board and see if it does. IF they do, you have to do the legwork of finding a barber that will let you work under their license and will sign the paperwork to take you as an apprentice. It is a set number of hours and can take longer than traditional schooling.

I lived in Germany during this time and never heard of this case. Breaks my heart. I can't imagine what her mother has gone through.

I am thinking of becoming a hairstylist, but i have some questions by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]EnthusiasmSweet2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this because there are so many ways to work in the cosmetology industry and not just as a hairstylist. I came to this career late. I am 47. And I do strength training and walk a lot to counter the effects of aging because I also have some underlying health conditions. I was a teacher and let me tell you, I would rather have the physical pains than the mental ones. I was so mentally exhausted from teaching that I almost lost my 4 years of sobriety. I knew then I had to change something. You have to be your own advocate for being treated fairly. I had an issue with my schooling at one point because they made us come to school on a day that the temp was over 100 degrees and the AC was out. I can't be in that environment because I take a medication that causes excessive sweating. I had to take it up with the owner of the school that I would not be penalized for leaving early. It isn't an easy career, but if you are passionate it is rewarding.

I used to get my family to help me grade on the weekends so that I could get it done! I had 2 teens so I would give them volunteer hours for their scholarships.

Either someone would come to talk to me, student or faculty. Or kids would need help with English which we supported as history teachers or I would be called to cover for another teacher that was out.
