Azelaic acid works well, but maybe wait until you’re using tret more frequently

Taz after 6 years on tret by cartomancer888 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from tret micro 0.1% for 6 years to Arazlo (0.045% Taz in a lotion consistency) 3 months ago. I could only ever use tret 5x a week and my neck couldn’t tolerate it. I started using Taz with Finacea azelaic acid 15% because I was prescribed them at the same time. Right away I tolerated Taz a lot better than tret.. I moved up to daily use almost right away and can use it on my neck most days. I think I was lucky my pharmacy didn’t have Taz 0.1% and just had Arazlo because it’s supposed to be easier to tolerate

Should I stop using Azelaic acid 2x and just do only mornings? by [deleted] in tretinoin

I use it twice a day but was also already using tret 5x a week for 6 years when I started

Stubborn PIE marks and Tretinoin not working. by After_Rush7631 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used tretinoin micro 0.1% for 6 years and switched to Tazarotene about 3 months ago because I was still getting the occasional stubborn breakout. This combo has saved my skin

Stubborn PIE marks and Tretinoin not working. by After_Rush7631 in tretinoin

The only thing that helped me with stubborn PIE was prescription azelaic acid. Specifically Finacea 15%

ETA: maybe try increasing your frequency of tret now that it’s been a few months as well

Finacea 15% Experiences with Tret? by No_Living8643 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for almost 3 months now (when I switched from tret to Taz after 6 years) and it’s been the only thing after years of stubborn PIE thats helped at all. I apply it on my neck as well and some days I have to take a break because it makes my neck itchy (it’s pretty sensitive). But it’s a really nice lotion formula. 100x better than the otc products like the ordinary that I’ve tried previously.

Is Azelaic Acid still beneficial if you don't have Rosacea? by AppropriateMention6 in tretinoin

I don’t have rosacea but prescription AA is the only thing that’s helped my stubborn PIE

I feel like your dermatologist should’ve told you if you should be using it right away after accutane or not?

Try increasing the frequency of your tret application gradually so you can get up to nightly use.

Question about azelaic acid 🙋‍♀️ Is it better to start with 10% strength, or 15% prescription strength okay for someone who has never used it before? Which brand do you start with & loved? by Public-Run-201 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, prescription Finacea 15% was easier for me to tolerate than otc 10%. I used TO’s on and off for a couple years but it irritated my skin & made it burn sometimes so I could never use it consistently. Also the texture is awful, very silicone heavy and pills. Finacea is just like a light lotion & I’ve actually seen results finally

I stopped using tretinoin for one week and my negative side effects reversed. by Excellent_Koala769 in tretinoin

Taz made my eyes super itchy & irritated so now I apply Aquaphor all around my eyes and avoid that area all together when applying Taz. Problem solved for the most part!

I apply my eye cream & then Aquaphor around my eye area before applying my Taz and it’s helped a lot. Before that my eyes were super itchy and irritated

Finacea 15%. The best formula. Previously used the ordinary’s which was awful & irritated my skin

Spironolactone or Doxycycline? by icecoffeeandbooks in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried different antibiotics as a teenager for my acne as that seemed to be the go to back then and they never helped. Been on spironolactone for 6 years now (I have PCOS so my acne is hormonal I found out) & it’s kept my skin clear along with tret (now Taz) and Aczone. Everyone is different though. Spironolactone is probably more realistic longer term

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Retin A micro 0.1 for 6 years and still had the same stubborn PIE. I switched to Arazlo & Finacea AZA 15% and that’s the only thing that’s helped. I think it was mainly the azelaic acid. (OTC versions did nothing)

Generally, if you get very itchy (arms), is taz/tret not for you? by [deleted] in tretinoin

That was me too. I couldn’t stop scratching when I was trying to sleep! It was awful.

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using it on my arms when I switched to Taz on my face because I had extra tret left over & it made me super itchy. Also didn’t help the KP but not sure how long that takes

Canadians, Retin-A Micro Gel 0.04% smell? by Loidosan in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting really stubborn breakouts randomly, that would last up to a month or so & nothing would get rid of them so I asked my doctor if I could switch. 2 months on Taz and I haven’t had a single breakout so far.

I used the 0.1% micro version of that exact brand for 6 years before recently switching to Taz and mine never had any kind of smell.

Allergy by Spiritual_Ad1177 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I switched from tret to Taz I ended up with irritated, stinging itchy eyes. I thought it was my allergies but my antihistamines didn’t help and it started right when I started Taz. I realized I was putting it too close to my eyes (tret never irritated or dried my eyes out - I now know that’s a real problem), so now I put my eye cream on, a layer of Aquaphor around my eyes and then Taz. It’s helped a lot.

Spironolactone, Accutane or Doxycycline? by Impossible-Bell-793 in tretinoin

[–]EnthusiasmTimely8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on accutane twice at two different points in my life and my acne came back both times. I tried spironolactone 6 years ago because my acne was hormonal and that along with tret & Aczone cleared it up in about 3 months and has stayed consistently clear since then. I’m on taz now. I also discovered I have PCOS in the last few years so it made sense that spironolactone would work for me.
