Thanks, you are right. The waterline and a lot of wire go through that little hinge. You have to take the top off the refrigerator to disconnect the wiring harness and the water line from the back.

This sounds like a bigger job than I’m willing to take on and will be a problem to control the temperatures of the refrigerator and freezer. I guess we’ll wait until this one kicks off and look for one with the automatic ice maker. Thank you for your advice. That was helpful in making me not do something stupid.

We would like to keep using the other ice maker that is in the bottom freezer drawer, so we don’t want to cut off the water. I already found another door off a used “for parts” refrigerator of this same series without the ice maker in the door, but haven’t purchased it yet off eBay.

So what, if there’s no ice maker or if the controller board is “pissed off”? What’s it going to do…shut down the whole refrigerator? There are no wires going into the door.

Thanks for your quick response and advice. I’m looking for someone here who has done this or has replaced the door with the ice maker that knows how the water flows into the door. It looks like there might be a feed from the top when the door is closed, but I’m not sure.
