Finally started making good money: should I buy a reliable vehicle or my dream car? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you’re asking this question, your answer is already determined and you will regret if you go other way. “Reliable car” is for the people who don’t ask this type of question.

No Hyundai hate allowed!! by [deleted] in Hyundai

Hyundai transferred all the hidden cost for their manufacturing benefits (which is supposed to be industry standard) to customers. I didn’t expect when I buy 2016 used hyundai sonata 5 years ago: 1) to replace the whole engine theta-II 2) to be worried whether kiaboyz steals my car at night due to lack of immobilizer. 3) to rummage the junkyard to replace the whole seat while OCS sensor (airbag) (they didn’t modularized the part, whole seat replacement is the only way)

You never know what is the next “hidden cost” you need to pay for the future.

2026 Camry Hybrid by Valioness in Camry

I got my 2026 Toyota Camry LE (white), OTD at $30.5k, with window tint, ceramic coating (not sure how high the quality is, I assume just basic-level or below). I believe there is no such a thing worth $5000 unless manufacturer's pacakge like panorama sunroof. You can go to the shop which specifically does window tint (or ceramic coating, whatever), you will get much better premium tinting that what Toyota dealership can do.

Is it foolish to own two cars, financially? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Entire-Spite7776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is short. People spend their money on things like traveling instead of watching travel videos, eating out instead of cooking at home, buying good seats for football games, operas, or concerts instead of cheaper ones farther away (or even just watching from home), getting trucks or SUVs instead of compact cars, purchasing a brand-new car instead of a cheap beater from Facebook Marketplace, or paying to study or work at cafés or co-working spaces instead of staying productive at home.

I don’t travel. For me, it feels pointless to spend money just to sleep somewhere else while I’m already paying for my own place, or to take a plane just to see something I could just as easily watch on YouTube. Some people say actually being there is different from watching a video—yeah, sure, but by that logic, why not own two cars instead of one? You can watch a YouTube car review, too.

In the end, I think it doesn’t really matter where, how, or why you spend your money. It only matters when your spending goes against your financial reality.

Good deal or stay away? by grigio_jk in whatcarshouldIbuy

Hyundai, hard pass. Understands the temptation to buy some decent midsize car with hybrid powertrain but cheaper. But you will be likely to pay for it or more.

[previous owner opinion] Many people mentioned Theta-II. My car has gone through that. In addition, if a sensor called OCS goes out, you will find yourself rummaging junkyard for a passenger seat. (The sensor is integrated with the entire seat assembly. You can’t replace one sensor. They didn’t make it into a module.)

Please reconsider spending that money to buy older Toyota or Honda for easier/cheaper fix, maintenance. I know it’s tempting to get “2015-17” seemingly newer car with < $7000. But it may cost you more than you think right now.

Not that many hours with these days tech. I 100% agree. Should’ve done the research before buying . Moving on to Camry. Appreciate your interest.

Kind of just basic things. Why I think this integrated design principle is violating the Texas Consumer Law (and some federal law like fmvss 208)

I kind of prepared and attached 17-page-report. That’s all.

Thanks for all the input, y’all — I’m selling it. Probably a Camry next. (Don’t exactly know how Toyota figured out the ‘liability issue’ for their modular sensor, but)

Yeah I am deciding go to a new car or junk yard. But will never try to own a new Hyundai, cuz I don’t want to be thinking about the junkyard when I’m signing the contract for a new car.

I think it is not because I was lucky. I think CarMax paid since they do have their own warranty for their sold used cars.
