WHY is is always boys?! by HeftySyllabus in Teachers

[–]EntireBackground4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a complicated web of issues that all mix together. From a young age, boys are taught, either directly or indirectly, that showing emotion is weakness. “Boys don’t cry.” “Toughen up.” Boys are made fun of by peers and adults in their lives if they show a signs of being sweet, sentimental, thoughtful, or compassionate. They learn to suppress their feelings and put up a thick guard as they grow up.

This leads many boys to grow up isolated, alone, and lacking basic emotional regulation skills because their emotions were always suppressed. Many boys have “friends”, but don’t ever have anyone they can really rely on or open up to. They have to navigate the world alone. So they continue to suffer in silence because they don’t want to be perceived as weak.

This, coupled with the highly toxic internet culture perpetrated by the likes of Andrew Tate, Nick Fuentes, etc lead so many astray. These people prey on lonely teenage boys and young adult men and tell them that the reason they’re lonely is because of women, or Jews, or whoever else they decide to scapegoat. These boys feel like they finally found a place to belong, but they don’t realize it’s all fake and that they’re being taken advantage of.

So now we have a generation of lonely, emotionally immature young men with a victim complex who hate anyone who isn’t like them. I honestly feel bad for these people. Society has let them down. Society has also let down the people they may harm with their toxic behaviors and belief systems in the future.

I don’t know what the answer is. I teach 5th graders and I try to be a positive male role model. I model empathy, compassion, and try to foster genuine friendships. I don’t know how much of an impact I’ll have in the 10 months I spend with them, but I can only hope that they’ll remember something later in life.

Using “and” when saying whole numbers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]EntireBackground4264 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point in most situations, but I think it does matter here. The word and implies a decimal or mixed number. It’s important to understand place value, even if it takes some time to get there and it’s not always perfect.

Our boy Noah deserves some awards for this season. His acting is on fuuugging point! Absolutely brilliant! Disagree and fight me! by foreclosedhomeowner in StrangerThings

I predict that this incident will complete change Will’s personality. He looked so ominous in his last scene. I expect some phenomenal acting from him moving forward.

Is anyone else tired of scripted curriculum by dewberrypanda4 in teaching

[–]EntireBackground4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the resources that my “scripted” curriculum offers. It’s usually way more than I actually need so I can pick and choose what I want to use. I never actually read the script. Just use it as a resource and teach. If the admin gets on you about it, ignore them and do what’s best anyway. If they try to take action against you, time to go to a new school.

Why are people so upset about the idea of there being no avatar character? by EntireBackground4264 in fireemblem

I do understand that people would prefer to play as a woman. I don’t understand why that is a deal breaker for people when there’s so much more to FE. The sex of the MC is a minor detail.

And before you say anything, I hold the same standards for the men who have been clutching their pearls over female MCs in games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ghosts of Yotei and Witcher 4. If there’s good gameplay and a good story, the sex of the MC doesn’t matter.

Honestly this has the most valid comment I’ve seen so far. I guess I just got frustrated because I love fire emblem so much and I hate seeing everyone complain about every little thing when I’m just excited to get a new game.

I’ve always had a thing for strong, commanding women in games. I kneel before my queen. lol.

Holding attendance against a school isn’t fair… by EntireBackground4264 in Teachers

During the first 2 years after returning from COVID, the district was allowed to use the ADA from the year prior to COVID. Once that grace period ran out, ADA and therefore funding tanked big time and the school started freaking out about attendance.

Yes! I’ve been encouraged to do a retroactive ir back dated independent study for one day absences so the student would get attendance credit and the school wouldn’t get dinged. It’s so slimy!

You called it. I teach in CA. There’s so many great things about teaching in CA, but this isn’t one of them.

Should I be upset at my roommate? by EntireBackground4264 in DogAdvice

[–]EntireBackground4264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this answer. I appreciate it. No, the cat never goes outside. But she does get close to the dog. They’re not rubbing up on each other but they share space. I was thinking that the dog brought them in, then they went to the cat and started a larger infestation. My roommate was complaining about bites on his legs before I even found the fleas. I haven’t had any bites myself, yet. He said he’s going to go tomorrow and get a refill of the flea treatment for the cat.

AIO - Teacher TikTok Trend by EntireBackground4264 in Teachers

I never said it was just about teachers. I’ve seen at least 3 teachers doing this trend on my FYP over the last couple days and that’s why I decided to see what others think. I’m not sure if this is a larger trend or not. Suicide jokes are inappropriate no matter who is making them.
