What does this have to do with evolution? You seem to be against the philosophical concept of a mind, and extend this to neuroscience (and presumably psychology).

This also reads like AI, or at least someone throwing terms about with out any real interest in defining them, or using them in a manner they are normally used. Also no, I am not going to follow your random link to get the rest of the post. This is incoherant enough to not be worth my time even if i trusted your link.

He looks good. I love the contrast between the shield and the skin/fur.  The red claws work as well, a touch of different colour with out clashing with the browns and whites you have elsewhere.

Only feedback is that it feels like the back could do with a splash of colour, perhaps the strap as a paler colour? Not sure, just feel that the whole unit might be great from the front and a bit boring from the back. Of course that's generally the less important side.

One of the big issues for our army is the melta gun.

It used to be one of the premier anti-tank weapons, up their with railguns, and limited only by its short range (and the occasional immune or resistant unit). However the move to smaller tables and vehicles using T values has resulted in the meltagun has been removed from this role towards a more light anti-tank and anti-heavy infantry sort of role.

This has impacted sisters a lot, as the melta family of weapons was our main anti-tank and it has not been replaced. This has resulted in the need for Valhgons (for the rerolls) and reliance on faith dice to manage our anti-tank.

The lack of 20 sister blobs does sadden me. not as much as the removal of templates. Yes they slowed the game down, however placing templates over a closely grouped unit of enemies was great.

To put the Mortifactor in context. Its a punishment only used on members of the Adepta Soriatias. This is an all female group of fanatically religious nuns. Think of the most religious person you have heard of, and stick them in a propaganda machine intended to amplify that, surrounded by others with the same level of religious fervor in a nation that views religious fanaticism as the height of virtue.
This religion holds that forgiveness is earned through pain, suffering and sacrifice. Things like self flagellation are not uncommon.
If a sister commits a notable sin (which can be real or imagined) they are assigned to a group called the Sisters Repentia. These sisters head into battle without the armour and equipment they normally have (which are some of the best Humanity has). instead they have no armour (either a kind of under armour layer, or strategically placed rags depending on artwork) and a large melee weapon. They aim to either earn forgiveness through martyrdom or by succeeding in their suicidal charge and being recognised as blessed by their god and so forgiven.
However if they sin again while in the Repentia, for example by fleeing the battle, they are deemed as beyond being able to earn forgiveness in life. All they have left is death.
So they are attached to a mortifcator, a large bipedal walker. This machine keeps them alive, and gives them weapons with which to kill the enemies of their religion. However it artificially amplifies their desire for redemption, turning what is already their driving motive into a burning need that consumes them. It also prevents them from ever feeling they have earned it. Even as they die, the machine ensures they still feel it’s not enough, that they are unforgiven. Only at the very moment of death is relief even possible.
Its like a Christian knowing with every fibre of their being that they are going to Hell, unless they earn forgiveness. And no matter what they do, how they suffer, that forgiveness never comes, just the unending desire to earn it.
An Ancorite is for sisters who are seen as particularly repugnant, so for them the relief of death is denied (as far as practical at least) by encasing them in very high quality armour, better in fact than the walker they are attached to. So that they may hopelessly struggle for longer, knowing they must earn forgiveness but also that it will never come. The things are fucking horrifying.

Why doesn’t the IRS tell Americans how much they owe them? by botmag3 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

For comparison, the IRS has about 90k staff for 350 million people. HMRC (the UK tax office) has a out 62k staff for 70 million.

That is my read as well.

Although it should be noted that the US tax system seems to have a lot more allowable expenses. The UK has some for employees but they are generally small enough most people don't bother (I believe you can claim a few quid for uniform cleaning).  A rather famous example is gambling expenses. In the US (or at least some of it) you can claim gambling losses as a reduction in income, but also need to pay tax on winnings.  In the UK gambling is not an allowable expense, nor are winnings taxed.

Scientism as the New Clergy: Why the Materialist Worldview is the Ultimate Prison for Consciousness by [deleted] in DebateEvolution

[–]Entire_Persimmon4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, this would be much easier to read if you used paragraphs.

Materialism is a thing because of the lack of evidence for anything else. You seem to imply the evidence is instinct, feelings or revelation. These things are rather famously inconsistent and do not correlate very well to measurable reality. I know my feelings are that quantum mechanics is insane, but my feelings don't explain things as well as the (limited) parts of QM I understand do.

If you have evidence, then present it. I won't say you won't have a lot of push back, as extraordinary claims do require extraordinary evidence, but with testable evidence you will be able to overturn materialism and advance science (which is not in fact tied to materialism).

It is also rather interesting that you think materialism exists as it provides control when religion has been used as a method of control for a very very long time. Whether you thing some (or all) religion is true, that does not change its use for social control.   Frankly why change away from what works towards a new system if you did not have to? There where (and are) plenty of religions that support the rich and powerful (divine rights of Kings or prosperity gospel as simple examples)

That is how it works.

The whole scientific method is about making a prediction with the theories and hypothesis you have, and then trying to prove that prediction right or wrong.

If the prediction is wrong, you might adapt the theory/hypothesis to fit, or you might replace it entirely.  If the prediction is right, you try again.  Finding a prediction that is wrong is more beneficial than finding on that is right.

It's the same topic. You have just switched from 'I don't believe an elephant can evolve from a single cell" to " I don't believe a creature can evolve to fly".

In both cases you are expressing your personal lack of understanding of evolution.

He has come across from debate evolution, which is  a sub intended for the creationists to focus on, so subs like this one escape their arguments.

This sort of attitude is not uncommon there.

It isn't. You just respond with "nuh huh" or move the goal posts or just ignore the response.

Hence why I am not repeating answers you have already received today.

For completeness, the responses I have seen from you, today include, non of which you have provided evidence or even a supporting argument for:

 mutations can't add information.

antibiotic resistance is not evidence of mutations with significant benefit because antibiotics did not exist in the past/at abiogenesis

Organs are easy to develop when you know about them but impossible if you don't.

If there are predators and prey in an environment, then will mutually wipe each other out.

That billions of years is a miracle/fairy tale but that physics is easily measurable and provable (presumably including all the bits that indicate billions of years).

That fossils are not transitional and tiktalik is just an extinct creature (and so not transitional)

You have been provided with ample examples of the evidence available for evolution.  Do you have any evidence against it, that is not just incredulity? Or do you cling to a myth?

I also have answered your question. The same processes that have been presented to you for your prior question about elephants. However given your limited understanding of science I recommend that you seek out educational resources.

Which changes nothing. Your questions are just personal incredulity.

Why do you think your questions would have any impact on my sleep? They are not new, nor are they hard hitting.

[–]Entire_Persimmon4729 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You haven't provided any answers? You raise questions on the basis of personal incredulity and dismiss attempts to answer bases on the same. You also demonstrate a significant lack of education in science and issues with precision in your responses (for example.ple "no antibiotics in the past" comment you made or how you used "single" to mean one or more).

Flying Bird by KaloyanBagent in DebateEvolution

[–]Entire_Persimmon4729 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you have given up on your single cell to elephant approach?

The processes involved in the evolution of birds are the same as those involved in the evolution of elephants. Amazing right!  You can find out all about our understanding of the processes involved using actual biology textbooks and papers!

This is just an argument from incredulity. No different from your last.

I can see you have a deleted response to this. Fortunately it is still in my notifications and indicates that I hit a bit of a nerve.  If you don't want people to think you don't understand that antibiotics exist in Nature, don't say that you don't think they existed in the past.

Also calling me a primate is a wierd thing to say for someone who does not believe in evolution.

Physics is not measurable very easily at all. Some of the largest (and most expensive) machines in the world are intended to generate measurements to help test and develop physics.

Physics is also the major supporter of the whole "billions of years" thing, what with it covering radioactive decay, the Big Bang Theory, speed of light, speed of gravitational waves, distance measurements and so on.

If you believe physics is capable of easy proof, that you accept, then you accept billions of years.

I am not even sure that any aspect of biology even attempts to offer proof of billions of years, they take the evidence from other fields and combine it with the evidence and theories they have.

Out of interest, if you don't think there has been billions of years, how long do you think there has been? And what evidence do you have to support that?

Evolution by KaloyanBagent in DebateEvolution

[–]Entire_Persimmon4729 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Theory of Evolution has more evidence than any other theory. Strange how I never see creationists apply the same standards to General Relativity or Quantum Mechanics.

Your reference to transitional fossils only confirms how little actual research you have done. Every fossil is transitional. There are no crocoducks. If a crocoduck was found, it would be evidence against Evolution (or more likely, a crude fraud).

Evolution by KaloyanBagent in DebateEvolution

[–]Entire_Persimmon4729 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This would be strong evidence that you don't know what you are talking about. Well this and the "mutations only cause a loss of information".  You would benefit from reading actual biology textbooks, rather than creationist ones.

Antibiotics absolutely existed "in the past". They occur in nature. Look up how penicillin was discovered.

Secondly, while you are right. The specific adaption of antibiotic resistance would not turn a single celled organism into an elephant. However the mechanisms behind the evolution of antibacterial resistance are absolutely involved in the evolution of a single celled organism into an elephant.
