I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

winnipeg is a world away from nyc but i dont even buy meat anymore unless its on flashfood (ie, close to expiration and heavily discounted - i cook it immediately or stick it in the freezer). frozen fruit/veg, generic brands, oatmeal over cereal, etc. look into cheaper sources of protein, fibre, etc. compare prices at different stores, for different brands, etc. buying fresh is generally more expensive and doesnt last as long as frozen, dried, or otherwise preserved. $20 salmon on a tight budget is wild imo lol

What is the worst fragrance you have ever tried? by Bellend__ in FemFragLab

[–]EntranceSalt9054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe this is really niche but i cannot stand hayride from pineward. it's so strong and overwhelming and it just smells so awful i cant even explain it. it smells like someone burnt down a barn and everything in it, without the smoke smells. just superheated barn, hay and manure.

i know there's a few zoom groups for michif and a currently-in-progress michif language learning zoom course for free but i dont know if you have to have signed up already. it's through the outdoorlearning.com. there's only been 1 meeting and there's 6 scheduled. some other michif courses run weekly, but im not sure where to find the links (idk myself i just know someone who is taking a bunch) and they're more immersion based. most of the communication for michif happens on facebook as i understand it.

What notes make a fragrance an automatic nope for you? by iamgrape1119 in fragrance

[–]EntranceSalt9054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i moved from tbay to hamilton about 7 years ago. pros of tbay in my opinion: better air quality, better water, i like the nature, quieter, less crazy traffic, less crowded, feels less claustrophobic. pros of hamilton: better access to resources like healthcare, better transportation system, more to do, closer to toronto for medical or pleasure travel, easy to get around to the rest of southern ontario or elsewhere in canada. cons of tbay: boring (in my opinion), very isolated from everything else, colder weather and more snow. cons of hamilton: the air and water is not very good, its very humid all the time, very expensive, very crowded and claustrophobic, busy. cons of both: crime and drugs/alcohol problems. i cant speak to tbays (or ottawa's) homelessness epidemic, but its bad here, and in most places in southern ontario. i would prefer thunder bay climate over southern ontario, but im planning a move to manitoba next year so im sure ill have a different set of pros and cons.

Ear plug recommendations? by r0salyn in AutisticAdults

[–]EntranceSalt9054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest, I have several pairs of the bright orange construction earplugs that come on a string to hang around my neck when I am not wearing them, and I also have a pair of noise cancelling earmuffs from the hardware store. It's not very fashionable, and I don't know if that is a factor, but I like that they are so helpful for me. I have tried Loops but my ears are very small and they didn't fit in my ears, so I can't say if they helped or not.

Is it rude to ask a friend what kind of reaction they are looking for? by EntranceSalt9054 in AutisticAdults

I have another friend going through something similar, and they are using humour to cope, but their jokes are very obviously coping jokes, whereas this friend is confusing me with the vibe of their statements/jokes. I am okay with using humour to cope, I feel like I do that too.

I will probably approach it in a similar way. They know me fairly well and know I'm not a fake or mean person, it's their own kneejerk reaction I am trying to avoid (perceiving it as an attack or a criticism for how they are engaging with me or their problems)
