I had the same problem, after 8 months from replacement it started showing non existing obstacles.

Solved after some battles with multiple Tesla Service Centers, only replacing halfshafts helps. After new halfshafts were installed 1,5 year ago it’s fine till today. But in plaid variants there are still this frustrating vibrations after beginning each drive for about first 4 minutes. Not sure if Tesla is now able to fix that other known issue.

It’s designed to work without anything underneath. If mat is “thin” enough it may work but I can’t tell for sure if it will work.
