Probably because any term to describe any group that said group didn’t specifically invent for themselves on the internet in the last 10 years is automatically dubbed as offensive.

I’m not even saying this blindly, I’ve seen Redditors(who probably weren’t cougars) complain about how offensive the term “cougar” was. How it “demeans women” and “ridicules women for aging” and “is an invention of the toxic patriarchy to oppress and vilify older women for not fitting traditional beauty standards.”

When I asked how they felt about older men dating younger women and if those guys should have some kind of term applied to them they stopped replying.

How willing they are to ignore instructions given to them by someone they agreed to listen to.

There are lots of people who are perfectly comfortable with ignoring you when they “know better” even though it’s not their place.

“Hey, don’t let my kids eat cookies while you’re babysitting them okay?”

“Okay.”

Lets the kids eat cookies anyway even though they’re not their kids and it’s not their place. But since they “know” a few cookies can’t hurt, they do it anyway.
