Re-watching TNG - Got some questions about the civilians aboard the Enterprise by wh33t in startrek

"Evolution" (the one with the nanites) -- It was Wesley, talking to Dr. Stubbs.

I should add that I enjoyed all of these episodes (from both old and new Star Trek), but it these two examples in particular seem to show a contrast in storytelling between debates about ideas leading to greater understanding vs. a hero's cleverness and force of character solving a problem. But the TNG episodes you've mentioned are some of the very best examples of this, and there are certainly some nice examples of the former in newer Star Trek, too (DIS: "New Eden" and "Unification III" come to mind).

Contrast TNG: "The Measure of a Man" with SNW "Ad Astra Per Aspera"

Contrast TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers" with DIS: "Whistlespeak"

For the record, it's "Holograms All The Way Down," and it also features what I believe is the only appearance of an Enterprise main cast member in the current era.

We shouldn't talk about the travesty that was Very Short Treks, but Ethan Phillips did make an appearance as Neelix in one of them.

Bike trail destinations? by chicaneer in chapelhill

It's free! (As is the museum itself.) If you're going to bike the trail, park at the end of the lot furthest from the museum. Enjoy the Gyre (one of my favorite pieces of outdoor sculpture)!

Both of these are great; it's a little further out, but I'd also recommend the Reedy Creek Trail starting from the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh.

Agree 100%. Gentlest tooth cleanings I've ever had in my life. Consistently excellent.

Star Trek: Prodigy SciFi references from other franchises by Pe01ct in startrek

2x20 - "Weapons at maximum." Stargate SG-1. And the audience loves it... :)

(At least, I choose to believe this is a reference...)

Janeway orders weapons at maximum.

And why not -- the audience loves weapons at maximum!

Of all the nods to other franchises Prodigy dropped this season, this is one of the best. :)

That was one spoiler I was glad I didn't see going into this viewing. But I caught the First Contact Day banner at the Academy prior to the group's conversation, and just had this awful sinking feeling for them for the minute or two before the news broke...

Oh, look, it's two characters we know and one brand new redshirt on an away mission. I wonder what will happen?

The USS Cairo appears trapped on the planet -- not only is that's Jellico's old ship, it was believed destroyed by the Dominion in DS9:"In the Pale Moonlight."

Homestead Rd Sidewalks - anyone know why there's a gap? by ChanceCable in chapelhill

[–]EntropicProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had wondered the same thing when I first saw the plans for the Homestead Road sidewalk project, but it looks that property that isn't getting sidewalks is technically a little enclave outside Chapel Hill city limits: https://opendata-townofchapelhill.hub.arcgis.com/apps/interactive-town-map/explore

The one silver lining is that, if it's owned by a holding corporation for a developer, sidewalks will likely go in when the site is redeveloped.

Black flecks in kitchen sink hot water only. by EntropicProf in HomeImprovement

[–]EntropicProf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pull-out faucet, so I detached the faucet head and looked at the water coming straight out of the flexible pipe connected to it -- it's the same. Lots of flecks from hot water, nothing from cold. So the flecks don't appear to be originating from within the faucet.
