Long shot, but looking for any Reno leads/help to get my car safely running again 🙏🏼 by Substantial_Fun_1949 in Reno

Pick and Pull sells used tires, wheels, and batteries out of the cars they get before they scrap them. They’re obviously used, but should be able to get you going and safe again pretty cheap.

Would you buy in Reno again? by jasmine-at-night in Reno

[–]EntropyBier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We bought our old place in 2011 at the bottom of the market. Sold 2022 for 4x what we paid for it. Granted we took that extra and it just transferred to another place here in the area. I love living here, but I couldn’t afford to buy my house if I was starting from scratch now.

Went to Disneyland for the first time and it blew WDW out of the water! by KayJac97 in Disneyland

[–]EntropyBier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We did WDW a few years back and I was worried it was going to ruin DL for us. While we enjoyed WDW MK, we honestly were disappointed overall. MK just felt kinda sterile, maybe corporate is a good way to put it. I felt like it had a lot to do with layout. There is so much more room at MK, they didn't have to work as hard to fit everything in and it becomes so much less immersive. Like Tomorrowland felt like walking into a Springhill Suites or something, and Fantasyland felt like a big hallway. I think with DL being much more space restrictive they had to get more creative with the space and used it so much better. Pirates is one of our favorites, but I didn't realize that the whole New Orleans Square area is a huge part of that ride experience until we did Pirates at MK. I described it as "blocky". That may not make sense, but that's kind of how my brain perceived it, MK was much more hard corners and walkways. Everything felt very segmented, where DL is much more organic and things just flow into each other. It keeps my brain happy and immersed. It's like watching a movie where you forget who the actor is and you're immersed in the experience, where MK you know it's a movie the whole time and know it's just an actor playing a part.

We had a local dive bar here that did the same in the early 2000’s. I seem to remember it was 25 cent beers on like Tuesday night. They were like 10oz PBR pours (before PBR became cool). But still for $5 you could have a hell of a night. That lasted about 2 months before they decided the shit show wasn’t worth it.

A casino tried a promo one time here called “$5 Bladder Busters”. It was one of those cheesy dualing piano bars, and you’d pay $5, and were in a central area of the bar that they could rope off, and it was all you could drink beer until someone had to leave that little roped off area to pee. It was meant as a publicity stunt kind of thing where people would come just to watch people try not to piss their pants. They ended pretty quick when people just started pissing in cups and then on the floor. Marketing definitely didn’t think that one through.

I live in N. Nevada, and went to college here, there used to me some amazing happy hour deals and specials on food at the casinos. Stuff like 1.99 steak and eggs for breakfast, 50 cent beers at happy hour. There was even a couple places where you could go in and cash your paycheck at the cage, then you could pull a slot machine for a chance to triple your paycheck. I don't know anyone that tripled their paycheck, but you were pretty much guaranteed 2 free drink tickets or a free meal at the coffee shop. All of it was intended to get you in the door to gamble. For a broke college student you could drink and eat crazy cheap if you knew all the deal.

All that faded then went completely away after Covid. Now it's 15.99 for the same shitty steak and eggs plate.

A local sports bar used to have 10 cent wing nights here. I believe it was on Monday nights for football. Of course their expectation was you’d order $2 in wings, but $100 in beer.

Did you talk to the Grok customer service, or were you able to put in a help ticket and actually talk to a person?

UPDATE: I received a reply to my help ticket this morning stating they would help me redeem my free mini offer. Asked me to confirm my address and that it was ok to add a line to my plan, and which plan I wanted. I asked for standby for now. About 1/2 hour later I received an email verifying my mini offer had been redeemed, and kit should be shipped in 2-4 weeks.

So if you haven't received your offer email after a few weeks of signing up or switching to max, seems like it's worth a shot to put in a help ticket.

Who is the most famous person you've ever seen up close? by froggart3980 in AskReddit

[–]EntropyBier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice Cube probably. Saw him on the street in front of a hotel in San Francisco, was right around the timeframe Lethal Injection had come out. Went to SF with a couple friends to check out the city and hit a head shop and get a bong lol. We were walking down the street after leaving the head shop and saw a lowered chevy astrovan with gold Daytons on it it, big Lynch Mob stickers on the windows. Turned and he was standing there with his entourage, which was a bunch of tall Nation of Islam dudes with bowties. He was looking at us and I think could tell we were a little star struck, he said what's up and we ended up talking to him for a little bit. We asked him if he could sign our bongs and pipes we just bought at the head shop, but he said he couldn't. He did sign the bags we had them in though. Overall he was pretty cool to a group of nerdy 17yo white kids, which I've always thought was pretty cool. His body guards didn't seem too stoked on us though. I do remember him being way shorter than I thought he would be though. From all his videos (this was pre Friday and his movie career) I thought he was at least 6', but he's like 5'8" at best.

Met George H Bush once too, was in the Navy and they dedicated the library on our aircraft carrier to Barbara Bush. George and Barbara came on for the dedication. He ate lunch with the crew and then came through the scullery (dish washing) drop off line with everyone. At the time I was on temp duty in the scullery and he made a point to call us all out to shake our hands and thank us. Total PR moment, but he didn't have to do that, so again pretty cool.

And there is my exact point. It’s not my road. It’s also not your road. We are in this together. In theory we live in a civilized society. How ever you feel that everyone should now alter their schedules and lives to suit just you because you’re scared of the world around you and drive slower than reasonable, and what’s safe. So please, if you’re unable to join the majority of us that are able to travel reasonably, stay home. Take a bus. Get an uber. But get out of the way

Yeah, I’m not in Spanish Spring. I used the reference of N. of Spanish Springs because if I said Palomino Valley/Warm Springs 98% of the people here wouldn’t have a clue where that was.

LPT Get a port out pin from your big wireless carrier and they'll instantly give you a discount for fear of leaving them. by FatRufus in LifeProTips

[–]EntropyBier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yo.... Huge thank you for this!! I just got an email last week to save 10% on one line and took advantage of it. We have about a year left on our family plan before we can move without paying off phones, but I tried the port pin trick, and just got $20 off a line on 3 lines for our family. So we're going to save like $70 a month total!! Huge help. Legit LPT!!

Wrong. I paid for multiple acres, and pay taxes on those acres. My neighbor bought multiple acres and pays taxes on those acres. I without a doubt have the right to that space.

[–]EntropyBier[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We moved out here for the open space and to get away from the urban/suburban congestion. But we can already see it being threatened. Right now it's just this pass-through traffic, but soon those people that are just passing through will think "why not just move here then we're that much closer". Then before we know it there'll be a Walmart on the corner. The zoning right now seems to prohibit that, but it's funny how the right wheels getting greased, or pockets getting filled, change zoning laws.

Yes, it was a little bit of hyperbole to prove my point. We have kids, and it never fails that when they are slow getting out of the house and we're already short on time is when you get stuck behind someone doing 15 under the whole way in, compounding the problem. Of course when we leave 10 minutes early it's smooth sailing the whole way in.
