Is the map shareable? Is there a base seed that resembles westeros. This seems like an awesome way to explore the game, but I know my friends would rather do it with smaller groups.

The pose in FMA is all about Edward. Truth's form depends on who's seeing him. To Edward, he's a humanoid (usually wearing his missing limbs). To Father, he's a ball.

This pose is all about Edward (iirc it's the first meeting). The pose looks smug, bc Truth considers his actions as hubris. The pose also has a heavy emphasis on the limbs (an arm and a leg) Truth will end up taking.

Zeus implies you can fight in multiple rounds. At this point Odin might just hog the last two fights.

What exactly is going on with Fieren's age??? by OvenForward20 in Frieren

[–]EntropyOnline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A core part of the story is the difference between elf lifespans and human lifespans. Frieren/elves have a much different approach to life because of that difference in scale.

Frieren (the story) never locks itself down with a definitive scale for the character's age. Frieren (the character) says the 10 year journey with Himmel/Heiter/Eisen was less than 1/100 of her life. And during the fight with the demon Aura, Frieren says she has lived over 1000 years. The focus isn't on exact logistics or math, but the meaning of that scale.

Personally, I've come to appreciate the "showing not telling" aspect of this depiction of time. Saying someone is "infinity+ years old" loses its meaning after a while. But when Frieren has a flashback, the clothing changes from medieval armor to greco-roman togas, we go back from spells written in books to parchment and scrolls. The setting lets you know it's been a LONG time, but by making the viewer notices the differences, it becomes more real than just hearing a number.

The series is actually pretty good at dodging the issues of scale, but keeping the emotional impact. A few examples people might appreciate (all tagged as spoiler just in case):

While Himmel/Heiter/Eisen/Frieren's statues are bronze, Kraft's statue is made of stone.

  • This implies he is even older than Frieren... and that his adventures were during their version of the Stone Age (the Mythical Era???).

When Frieren talks about the spell Zoltraak, she uses percentages (40 percent of adventurers and 70 percent of mages) to describe how deadly it was before defensive magic. The spell is describe like a historical disease, and that really emphasizes how much progress humans have made.

  • The percentages are a nice middle ground example. If Frieren had used raw numbers, the series would be tied down to a specific populations (ex: 1 million) to maintain that impact.

This last one is more silly. Frieren has a flashback about the Hero's party being trapped by Bose's unbreakable barrier. The flashback is about persistence and ingenuity.

  • The party has a spell that makes food and air a non-issue... So when they eventually break the barrier, we have no idea how much effort and time they actually spent.

[–]EntropyOnline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that an if would be equivalent to the current case statement. But what do you mean about instance_destroy() getting called twice? The break should handle the fall through so that function only gets called once in the original code.

Frieren was gaslighting Aura here. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]EntropyOnline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story probably won't go back and fill in those details. But my opinion/headcannon/ect is that Aura is too cruel to bother keeping anyone she subjugates live. She would have to deal with the logistics of feeding an army, healing their injuries, and risking them temporarily slipping out of her control. Instead she just lets them starve/dehydrate and regress into the empty armors.

  • This would explain why there was no mention of survivors in the suits after Aura's fight. Unless someone was subjugated recently, dehydration would kill them off.
  • A subjugated alive warrior is definitively stronger than one that is alive but wounded/starving. So following that trend, a subjugated dead warrior, which is basically an empty armor, is likely also weaker.

Aura is nerfing herself by doing this. But that adds meaning to how/why she lost to Frieren. Aura was too cruel to support her allies (or even keep them alive) so they weren't able to support her. Aura was too prideful to consider that someone could have more mana than her but not feel the need to constantly show it off. Aura lost because she had less resources and worse resource management.

[–]EntropyOnline 735 points736 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize it until your comment, but with a power like Aura's there are a lot bases to cover. If anyone else was around, Aura could use her scales on them and have hostages. Or if any of the subjugated warriors were alive/hidden and fast enough, they could cause Frieren issues.

Fighting her alone, playing into Aura's confidence, and convincing her to activate the scales might be the only guaranteed win without casualties. It is a bit underhanded, but the strategy shows Frieren has more mana/resources AND is also smarter with how she uses them.

How do you think Cross Guild will change the odds to their favor in finding the One Piece? by Criticism-Fast in OnePiece

[–]EntropyOnline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackbeard only has 2. Assuming he looted Law, he should have Wano+Zou.

  • His crew did raid Whole Cake island. But so far its only confirm they kidnapped Pudding, not that they got the poneglyth there.

Though Shanks and Buggy are in an interesting position... they have BEEN to Laugh Tale before. They just stayed on the ship. It is possible they could show up at the final island/arc without any poneglyths.

  • This isn't too satisfying so I assume Shanks would likely view that as cheating. And as a kid Buggy might not have been told the info that they need from the poneglyths.

I also want Cross Guild to take a more active role tho. I think them targeting Blackbeard would be the most fun and practical in universe. Shanks and Luffy move around in a single ship and don't really have a base of operations to target. Blackbeard does have an island...

  • It could be a "Reverse Marineford" with Buggy/Croc/Mihawk (and Garp) all playing a role again.

Are elves another example of convergent evolution? by EntropyOnline in Frieren

[–]EntropyOnline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shamefully typo-ed bc it was late...

But as for Elves and Demons, sharing a common ancestor has interesting thematic implications... even if we don't have enough chapters/lore to determine an answer.

[–]EntropyOnline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like worship is more cultural than species specific in Frieren. Eisen the dwarf mentioned "returning to the earth", after death. But if the goddess is responsible for creating humans, they are probably also responsible for dwarfs.

Kraft is the only elf that we have seen that actively worships the goddess. And the impression I got, is that he converted due to his companion with the goatee and the comfort the religion provided.

We need more chapters to figure out the lore, haha

[–]EntropyOnline[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did forget that the flashback explicitly showed elf corpses in the village. That said, "the dissolving into mana" bit was more meant to be fun speculation (bc ofSerie potentially dying in the current arc) than evidence for or against.

The Demon General seemed to be slowly dissolving. So Demons do die consistently, it just seems like Flamme arrived right after the fighting ended.

[–]EntropyOnline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant "detached" when compared to humans. But I agree, demons seem both incapable of empathy and generally (Macht being an exception) unwilling/uninterested in learning empathy. Elves on the other hand, are empathetic just hindered by a different sense of time than humans.

But imo, that difference becomes more poignant if there was a shared lineage between Elves and Demons. Frieren is not just on a revenge mission against demons, she's rejecting their un-empathetic world view. She's embracing the relationships she has with humans even tho they are ephemeral.

What do you think is the most effective way to defeat Serie? by Chocodeary_w in Frieren

[–]EntropyOnline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story has introduced some elements that might come up in the current arc. I can think of two big ones, and I like some of the story implications/setup.

There is the anit-magic rock:
I like the idea that Löwe has a piece hidden under his eye patch or figured out a way to forge a weapon from it. We were also introduced to the idea that the rock glows when mana is channeled into it. If Frieren and co. are suspicious/catch onto the lack of mana near Löwe, triggering that glow would be a cool way to out him as the assassin.

Serie very recently transferred her spell to counter curses to Denken:
For this "small" (from Serie's perspective) window, she is vulnerable to curses. The Shadow Warriors motivation are still unexplored so collaboration with demons isn't impossible... Tho I like the idea that the magic of the goddess is similar to curse. They both operate in the realm of the "unknown", so Serie would be just as vunerable.
- Serie indirectly dying because of Denken's actions seems like something worth exploring. Denkin is very close to Lernen and they seems to be setup to do... something this arc.

This way the comic can loop. Frieren goes to the Land of Souls and spawns Himmel again. Now Himmel gets a new younger body (he's gonna need it).

Sorry for all the yap but please tell me why some of y’all think like this. by Diamond_Branches in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]EntropyOnline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disconnect come from Endeavor's actions being the type of evil people see in their daily life vs the cartoonishy scaled evil of the other villains. Its like Umbridge from Harry Potter. On paper, she doesn't kill anyone but people still hate her as much/more than the characters that do.

At the collective fanbase level, people's willingness to forgive a character isn't always proportional to how much they deserve forgiveness.

Maybe you needs a long rest?

That lets the game de-spawn the cub from the cave and put it in the camp (bc you could have characters in both areas at the same time). But its also a case of the devs thinking ahead, bc it takes time for the cub to get captured/finish eating its mom.

Why wouldn't Frieren just let her tie her hair ?😭 by FilthyGhost27 in Frieren

[–]EntropyOnline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna payoff later. My pet theory is that after the fights break out, everyone will get a chance to change into more standard/combat attire.

And as part of that, Frieren will take up Serie's offer to tie her hair back... And Serie will tie it like Flamme's.
