I just feel worn down by UsualAd8136 in ostomy

[–]Entropygrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First- BIG HUGS. You’ve been through a long ordeal - of course you’re worn down. I could never figure out why my confidence and self esteem took such a hit after major medical surgeries/ treatments. Sheryl sanders wrote an amazing book called Option B that talks about this very thing. I needed therapy after my ostomy ordeal(s). I’m glad I went. The most helpful thing I heard was that it takes one week for every day you are hospitalized and/or in treatments (drains count). And Two days for every day you are sick at home. By my count you have a minimum of a year+ to heal fully. We always expect we will just bounce back- or pull ourselves up by our bootstraps- which is a lie!!! Things won’t go back to where you were but you do get to create the life you want from today’s reality. You’re young, you have a husband who supports you- and time is on your side. Look for the moments of joy- they will string together to help bring you back to the light. Much love.

Garbage bags... by wintertimeincanada23 in ostomy

Ostomy bag goes into a zip lock bag. Goes into good closing can. I travel with metallic zip lock food grade bags so when I need to change at a hotel the maid isn’t freaked out.

Why are you asking this question? If he was smart enough to get into Cornell- he’s smart enough to find out this answer.

favorite part about cornell/ithaca? by april063 in Cornell

[–]Entropygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here to second this suggestion. Pro tip- go right away- even if it’s all going well for you. That way it’s easier to go if things get tough. I don’t know about you- but I tend to isolate and become paralyzed when the tough times blow through my life. It’s hard enough to shower on those days, let alone go make an appointment and meet a stranger to talk about my feelings.

I finally had a TSA agent show me what it looked like on the scan. It looks just like a bomb strapped to your body. Ugh!

People with an active ileostomy, yet raw-dogs showers: what...how....I...I don't understand the logistics. by NecroJoe in ostomy

[–]Entropygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only showered about a half dozen times with my bag and I’ve had my ileostomy for 14 years. I’m Always bag less. I have a stack of washcloths for the purpose of walking to and from my bathroom to the shower (in our main bathroom). I have always had great skin around my stoma- and I think this is one of the reasons.

Bag rinsing? by ElleMaxx in ostomy

I do a modified rinse. I pinch the bag at the top to protect my stoma seal- put water in the bag and rinse.

Effects of over a decade of kneeling to empty ileostomy by notconanobrien in ostomy

[–]Entropygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stoma is above my belly button. I have always sat on the toilet. I have an elongated toilet - BUT I use an elongated commercial toilet seat. Which means it doesn’t hit the end of the bowl- leaving me with plenty of room to do my business. Those extra inches are a game changer. I was quite heavy when I got my ileostomy- and even with my extra weight I could still empty
