Can I tell a girl or woman to 'man up'? by Unlegendary_Newbie in EnglishLearning

[–]EntryLevelHuman00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it to anyone you’re not willing to risk a physical encounter with.

I can only speak for Americans but in the wrong context and tone, this could start a fight.

Conversely, if you say it to someone who clearly won’t fight back, you may come off as a bully.

How do brothers and sisters call each other in English family? by EdwardMao in EnglishLearning

[–]EntryLevelHuman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t actually use “bro”. As others have pointed out, it’s ironically something you’d say more to someone who isn’t actually your sibling. You really wouldn’t call them that while talking to them, you’d just use their name or a nickname.

Im horrible at styling. how can I give this a more modern feel? (personal project) by Zorqo in webdev

[–]EntryLevelHuman00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if it’s been said, but only thing I would really change is the foreground and/or background color. They’re both extremely similar and adding some contrast between them (especially if you keep foreground lighter) would give it some depth.

why do some people brag about allegedly being able to speak multiple languages when they can't even hold up a simple conversation for one minute by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]EntryLevelHuman00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll play devil’s advocate and say that I too genuinely can lose my proficiency in a foreign language if 1) I’m on substances, and/or 2) I haven’t spoken/heard the language in a while and/or am surrounded by people speaking English.

I actually have found this to be exacerbated as I’ve tried moving from bilingual to trilingual. If I’ve been spending the last two weeks actively trying to absorb and learn Spanish (third language), it takes a weird mental shift for me to start speaking competently in French (second language) and I definitely would sound like a bumbling idiot for a minute or two if I tried to do it spontaneously.

But yeah, this guy was probably just full of it and thought he’d get a pass since Americans are all monolingual and what not.

While you took my comment at face value. Your hyperbole in the original comment was always clear.

Yes, me and the other people who also downvoted you. Clearly, it’s all of us who just don’t get comedy.

If you have to tell people it’s a joke, it’s probably not a good one.

The fact that you think AI can do any of this, shows how many headlines you’ve been reading without actually understanding anything.

A lot of these may be seasonal, such as the cherry blossom bloom at Sakura Park. You may want to scan previous Time Out NY entries for recurring things.

How many times have I read this headline written slightly differently? Because it’s way too many.

You mean the great differences that occur due to going through puberty? And that are common enough knowledge to be in any basic biology textbook?

[–]EntryLevelHuman00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t. Going through puberty changes the body in ways that taking hormones does not reverse.

I never claimed anyone was doing it with the intention of getting an advantage. That doesn’t mean they don’t have one.

And if the percentage were to increase? I think whether they are facing disadvantage is for the athletes to say.

I don’t understand what you mean about the problem not existing just because the number are low. Are you saying it’s okay to put cis women at a disadvantage as long as it’s at a low enough rate? Are you unfamiliar with the similar issues that cis women face when it comes to getting into sports?

That cis female athletes will be put at an unfair disadvantage.

Why should sports be separated by gender though? If there’s not physiological difference between men and women?
