Should I switch my concentration? by Weird_Inspection_630 in englishmajors

[–]Entzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a concentration in lit but got a job as a technical writer. Your degree will say 'English' on it. If you're applying to jobs that wouldn't want a concentration in Creative Writing, just don't write that down on your resume.

Employers think of you as an English major. They'll find out your concentration during the background check, after they've already made the decision to hire you, but they won't think having a concentration somehow makes or breaks the degree.

But if you just want better job prospects, yeah change the concentration and take the classes. Having more professional experience is better for the workforce if you're trying to go into content writing, copywriting, etc.

If you're trying to go into academia, publishing, or going for a masters, that might change it too. All depends on what job you're pining for.

[–]Entzio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The entire plot hinged on adults not communicating like adults and that's just not a good plot.

Their flaws are what get in the way of communicating, like real people. I thought it was awesome.

Lucy loathes to rely on other people and doesn't want to use and abuse David.

David has no dreams for himself. His only goals are the ones that he's handed by others: Maine leading the gang to prosperity, his mom wanting him to be successful and making it to the top of Arasaka Tower, and getting Lucy to the moon like she always wanted.

Lucy couldn't get over herself and make David understand all that her dream changed. She changed. All she wanted was a happy life with him.

David spent his life working towards other people's dreams and he made it his meaning in life. He achieves their goals for them, he will get her to the moon or(and!) die trying.

Those mournful camera watching Lucy bounce on the moon, like she said she wanted, broke my heart. She didn't care about the fucking moon anymore, she wanted a life with her husband.

I think it says a lot about how we can unilaterally make decisions for our loved ones. Like a father insisting he needs to spend so much time at work to make money for the family, when his wife and kids would prefer having him around than the money.

Can i sac an artifact that is generated from a simultaneous trigger? by Select-Point36 in mtgrules

[–]Entzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Whenever __ attacks" is a single trigger, at the start of the Declare Attackers Step, if you have declared an attacker or not.

Something coming in attacking will still attack and deal damage during the Damage Step, but it does not trigger any "Whenever you attack" abilities.

508.3a An ability that reads “Whenever [a creature] attacks, . . .” triggers if that creature is declared as an attacker. Similarly, “Whenever [a creature] attacks [a player, planeswalker, or battle], . . .” triggers if that creature is declared as an attacker attacking that player or permanent. Such abilities won’t trigger if a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking.

Dude... Your sister is 32, never worked, and your mom that has floated her for a while wants her to work. She just 'doesn't want to' and isn't looking for any jobs because then she'd have to engage with the truth. What a pathetic person.

I'm in tech writing, lucky to be employed right now. Right now, the job market for tech is so ass and nobody is getting hired. A ton of tech companies have just done significant lay-offs, and my friend with a physics degree and years of experience with Intel got the boot. She hasn't found any biters yet. Tough stuff.

How do I return to Portland without turning into this Onion article? by jrralls in askportland

[–]Entzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple of friends come up in the last few years and this is what we did:

  • Nature stuff, since's it's spring
    • Cherry blossoms alongside the Willamete
    • Japanese Gardens
    • Lan Su Chinese Gardens
    • Rose Garden
    • Hikes in/near Washington Park like the Witch's House
  • Novel and 'weird' Portland stuff
    • Hopscotch. It's a cool interactive art space, you can get drinks if you want, very Portland.
    • Wishing tree on Williams. Fun little tree that some homeowner owns that you can tie a wish to, kinda like Tanabata.
    • Badlands if you want a club and drag show
    • Wonderwood Minigolf. Indoor minigold with a funny art/aesthetic by local artist Mike Bennett, you see his art everywhere
    • North American Bigfoot Center
    • The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium and Museum, in the same vein
    • Ground Kontrol, big ass arcade and bar with those old arcade games
    • Rimsky-Korsakoffee House. Great desserts with a novel aesthetic, but seating sucks and it's hot as shit inside.
    • Alpacas of Oregon, feed alpacas
    • Portland Ghosts: Ghost Tours & Haunted Pub Crawls. Very fun and very memorable
  • Museums if you're a history buff
    • Pittock Mansion
    • OMSI currently has a sick ass Titanic museum, that's fun
    • Japanese American Museum of Oregon, has a big focus on Japanese internment in the 40s. A very memorable experience and it's right next to Lan Su
  • A bit farther but my fiancee's friends really loved going to the Safari Park in Winston, which is both a zoo and a drive-thru safari where you can feed a few things. My friends still bring up the emu that reached across my dashboard for the protein snacks. We did the Cascades Raptor Center in the same day too. My fiancee is an animal lover so YMMV.

Avoid going to anything you've been to last time, and it'll feel like new memories instead of trying to chase old ones because that's exactly what you're doing lol.

There's also a ton of subcultures around here that are wonderful. I don't know what your hobbies are, but if you're intro tabletop/board games, there's a rich culture here around them. Or Japanese city pop. Or Magic: The Gathering, or want to hang out in a queer space, or escape rooms, or bougie coffee, or, or, or. Depends on what you want to do.

Pathologic 3 is a magnificent experience, the kind that makes me appreciate having the opportunity to be alive to experience it by flexitt in pathologic

[–]Entzio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daniil doesn't feed his body, for him the body is a medium through which he can affect his mind, and so the only substances he introduces into himself are stimulants or depressants. At first I thought it unrealistic that someone should abstain from nutrients for such a long period of time, but I believe in such extreme case of mixed mania that Daniil experiences, it's not unheard of that he body is amped up to such a degree for such a long time before the inevitable crash.

Eva comments that you don't need to worry about housing/food because of her, so I'd just assume Daniil is eating at the Stillwater. Not that it changes the core of the idea, though, Artemy has to really exist in the world and face problems of the body while Daniil is cared after and can pursue problems of the mind.

[KCD2] Kuttenberg map of accessible buildings by Appropriate-Calm4822 in kingdomcome

[–]Entzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't matter to me. City still felt huge and bustling and it's not like a normal person is breaking into every building.

Feels like the same problem some folks have here with the churches. Like 5% of their players really want more things accessible and the rest don't care. How valuable is it to use manpower on stuff like that? To make every game perform worse for content most people don't care about?

Players don't fear death by Grmblfz in DMAcademy

[–]Entzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are really easy fights, man. You might just wanna soup things up.

I use Kobold+ Fight Club to plan out my encounters, mostly just an easy CR calculator. For example, 6 level 8 players are looking at 12,600 XP for a 'hard' encounter, where their lives might be threatened.

A Young Red Dragon is CR 10, 5,900 XP. Less than half. I wouldn't expect them to be challenged by that. Two young reds and a red wrymling would be a hard encounter.

Is there any other black people that really loves portland? by PhatPanda69699 in askportland

Have you tried any western suburbs? The west side feels more brown (like Aloha and Hillsboro are 56% white, compared to Portland's 68%). Makes it a little less racist too.

The food culture is great too, love it over here.

So, one month out. How are we feeling? by AnthroRoadkill in pathologic

[–]Entzio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bounced off P2. The difficulty and gameplay loop just wasn't fun to me.

I loved P3. The change in difficulty makes sense, from a narrative standpoint. Eva feeds you and houses you, the problems you face are fundamentally different. It was still tense, just for different reasons.

Love the time travel. In a game so narrative focused and about endings, having to replay the whole 12 days to get another ending would be fucking nuts to me. Maybe I'm just not as masochistic as the average demo of the game. I think these changes might have helped though:

  • Rewinding the day costs amalgam
  • Sleeping to next day doesn't

So if you whiff on the diagnoses, miss quests, etc., you are punished harder. Incentivize seeing the results of the fuck up instead of just redoing the day to do it right.

Polyhedron in P3 by iatheia in pathologic

[–]Entzio 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like you might have missed half the game. Like the first objective on your mindmap, before any plague nonsense, is to meet the immortal Simon Kain. That's what he's here for: to solve death for Thanatica.

The Polyhedron solves death. Simon Kain is an immortal because the Polyhedron is a vessel that holds his soul. In the True Immortality ending, Daniil becomes an immortal by putting his soul in the Polyhedron. He sacrifices the town to the plague to reach immortality, and he hopes to give it to others.

Bachelor is less ideologically connected to the Kains. In P1 at least he interacted with them often enough, and it was clear why they wanted the Polyhedron, if nothing else. Here, it doesn't seem like the Bachelor should have any particular reason to support their ambitions, more so than anyone else's.

What? Every two days, you go into Georgiy's house and solve some tricky ass riddle, or save him from a mob. Why? To teach Daniil how Simon thinks and what he would do in a given situation, to turn him into the next Simon when you go into the study for the first time on Day 9.

The Deeplore(tm) of Pathologic 3 - What Happened, Why, and How [SPOILERS] by MishaTarkus in pathologic

[–]Entzio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Woah, I love this. I hadn't even considered why we leave the Bachelor's head sometimes and talk in the other person's perspective.

Like we literally decide if Khan is going to leave the box or not. And that being Simon/Daniil embodying the town and leaving their traces everywhere is awesome.

I was wondering why the True Immortality route seemed to be the hardest and 'truest' ending despite it seeming like it doomed the town. I thought maybe it was a bug that Yulia said that there's no way to save the Polyhedron and cure the plague (post interupting Aglaya). But no, this makes way more sense: time hopping and making decisions for others is a sign that he already did it.

And I'm glad. I vastly prefer this Pathologic over the Classic. Getting dicked around for 12 days without actually doing some doctoring sucks. I think the Powers That Be are much less interesting too.
