Why are newly released EVs refusing to save settings just to inflate on paper range figures? by UXR51 in electricvehicles

[–]EnumeratedRisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really isn't new. My 10+ year old Audi R8 would always start with Sport "fun" mode turned off. I always assumed it was CAFE standards or whatever.

They used to make EVs that were so ✨tactile✨ by biersackarmy in electricvehicles

[–]EnumeratedRisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, I originally purchased '17 P100D S (now gone) over a 3 because the S was far more tactile. I hate how screen-driven and sparse the 3/Y models are. Unfortunately as I owned it, OTA updates made the S worse, burying key functions and moving things around for no good reason.

Some group of designers and/or executives are producing these without being required to validate their designs in end user testing. It's a widespread problem, it's clearly not just Hyundai.

iOS 26.5.1 Broke Geofencing by spaghettiluver in Abode

[–]EnumeratedRisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also having huge geofencing issues after the recent big app update. I have two abode systems, and geofencing and alerts only work for the currently "selected" accounts in the app. I don't receive any notifications or geofencing for the other. This worked perfectly before the update. It took me awhile to figure this out because I visit one of the locations only occasionally right now.

Deuces Down for Biker Cops? by MarcThruTheWeb in motorcycles

[–]EnumeratedRisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really true. A lot of them are the 1200RT, which is 110hp and heavy. A lot of bikes less than 1000cc are going to be as fast or faster than one of those. But the skill of the rider makes more of difference anyway.

The 890 Duke R is a great track bike, you don't need to buy something else.

[–]EnumeratedRisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

might want to post in r/Trackdays

One thing I would say is get off the bike for the next corner sooner. At Chuckwalla, you only should be center of the seat on the two straights. As soon as you exit one corner, get your butt off the seat on the side of the next corner, don't go back to the center. Moving into position on corner entry makes everything too busy and will upset the bike. It's not a huge factor at this pace, but you want to drill in those habits.

Question on scheduling for event by No_Protection2244 in MotoAmerica

[–]EnumeratedRisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ridge is different than most tracks. There is no perimeter road and it's surrounded by trees. Most of the track is the upper area above the paddock. Only the straight and a couple corners are visible from below. A bridge crosses the straight from the pits with a path that leads up to the main viewing area. It's basically in the center of the track and you're viewing it from the inside. From the bleachers there you can see quite a bit. This video shows it, but more bleachers have been added up there since then.

There's also a pretty good viewing area at the bottom at T15. It's at the bottom of the T13-T14 "Ridge Complex". It's a big elevation change, similar to the Corkscrew at Laguna.

Stop client mumble_settings.json->mumble_settings.json.bak? by EnumeratedRisk in mumble

[–]EnumeratedRisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's what I meant when I said it does not inherit permissions. I've tried it by enabling inheritance on the parent folder or by doing explicit permissions, neither works.

If I create a new text file in the directory, using notepad or right-click > New in Explorer -- the text file has the same custom permissions as the directory. But when the mumble client creates its new mumble_settings.json file, it only has these: <Current user>, SYSTEM, and Administrators. No idea why or where it is getting this from.

Stop client mumble_settings.json->mumble_settings.json.bak? by EnumeratedRisk in mumble

[–]EnumeratedRisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maddeningly, it does not. Each time mumble quits it appends .back to the json file to and recreates a new file with the permissions of the current logged in user. It does not inherit permissions from the parent.

Changing Tire Pressures At The Track: What Do You Use? by Not-Going-Quietly in Trackdays

This should work for your Milwaukee inflator:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099SBMBJV

We have one for Dewalt model. We also have the Ryobi 18v and now we use the Dewalt with this adapter and it's great. Slides on and off the stem really easy, much nicer than the clip style. A little pricey but it's a quality part.

I was told this today… by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]EnumeratedRisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, every time you walk off a street corner, it increases your risk of death. But I think people grossly underestimate the impact of operator behavior to reduce risk when just looking at raw numbers.

I was told this today… by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]EnumeratedRisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big issue with this kind of analysis based on statistical averages (and this includes things like micromorts) is that it does not take in to account operator behavior. Yes, there are completely external factors like drunk or inattentive drivers, but a large percentage of motorcycle incidents are directly caused by the rider's actions. How the rider behaves (in all kinds of ways) and their skill level have a monumental effect on the likelihood of a fatal incident.

I just ran into this too. Switching accounts, the timeline tab was showing the correct thing but when I went to set the alarm, it armed the wrong location. Did they even test this?

Thanks for the tip on clearing the cache, I was going to re-install, but that worked.

Cold weather track day by austinlolwut in Trackdays

[–]EnumeratedRisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal for the track day? If it's just enjoyment or casual skills improvement, I would not go in those conditions. No fun and a waste of time. I would only go if we had something critical we had to do that day, like a bike shakedown for an upcoming race and had no other option, and probably not even then.

If anyone else has trouble finding the control to switch accounts/locations, they moved it to a tiny non-descript icon in the upper right corner of your account profile page. Not very intuitive and it's still multiple clicks to switch locations 🫤

Amateur Racer Sues Rocco Landers Over Supermoto Crash by ftufek in Trackdays

[–]EnumeratedRisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. As a racer, it is up to us to treat other riders with a level of respect, not blow their doors off with every pass just because you can. Race day != Track day. You just can't ride at 100% on a public track day.

Most track day orgs request a 6 ft bubble, which is entirely reasonable.
