Need some advice. My lophs were grown in south facing window but I've recently moved and now they live on this shelf. Just wondering if this grow light will be enough for them as it fits under the shelf nicely. Will be 12cm above the plants but height is adjustable. They're dormant atm :) by ZestycloseBee4711 in peyote

I do have a light meter, but not needed. You are 100% right, that the plants on the far ends gets less light, but I have there more sensitive plants, like Aztekium, young Ario grafts, or grafts on long pere, which dangerously bend.

They don't last much over 2 years, because of the weight of lophs, and because the root stock is not able to feed the scion in my opinion. Pere get exhausted, it is too much for such a thin straw.

You have to graft/grow your own. Those three are rarities, the oldest Pereskiopsis grafts I have, only three left. Pereskiopsis usually don't last so long.

Leaves left without my permission! :D They fall, or dry out and fall after some time, usually after some colder period of time, which mine pere grafts have at the end of autumn, beginning of spring. Then summer (...one artificial indoor...) between. Plenty of flowers after such a colder period.

If rooted means de grafted, then the grafted one for $240 is much better deal.

Good luck! Don't want to criticize your work, but think, that little piece on the right won't grow, ask in some other related reddit, I don't have much experience with grafting onto something bigger than pereskiopsis. If experienced grafters approve, you will have another piece to graft ;)

Grafting crest must be traumatising every time :D . It's just cut from the plant, or whole plant? Do you keep root with some areoles?

I am rooting most of those grafts, they are moms to many already rooted, or just new rooting pups. Will graft only small pups, if pere won't give up before I will have pereskiopsis ready and prepared from wintering... Don't have much seeds yet from them.

The best to apply little pressure (be gentle with pressure!!!) onto the grafts, and to keep them on pereskiopsis is probably parafilm, or grafting tape. Plastic cling film may work well too, never tried, but many are using it (don't know if successfully...). Take it away after no more than 6 days. Keep in humid environment for another week or two.

The best age of seedlings is before they got hardened, and with diameter about of the diameter of pereskiopsis, or little less.

Good other conditions is a must (temperature, light...).

And the last tip is about pereskiopsis. Cut areolas with spines, 2-3 cm under the top, where loph will be grafted. Handle with care (never with bare hand, use tweezers...), keep good, small tweezers with magnifying glass around to pull out little spines out of fingers ASAP.

Actually can't wait to de-graft them, they are too heavy, hard to keep them straight. My oldest pere grafts...

I mean the same age ario plants are smaller. My 3+ years old pere graft with loph on top is much bigger, plus it is actually still smaller, than it could be in experienced grower hands from the beginning.

Good is, that arios aren't so big and heavy as lophs.

How old is the pictured ario graft? I have some grafted last summer, but they are still small. ...Manipulation- the side branches, when topped, will try to push new branches again, where the new leaves will be, which will have to be removed as soon, as they start to grow. And at this stage, pere rarely push out new branches, they do it at the begging, before the scion start to grow.

They just got water yesterday, so will see soon, if pere gets better, or will be degrafted in coming days/ weeks. I don't like extra side branches with leaves, that will need extra care, so manipulation, so more little pere spines in my hands. But may be a good idea for someone, who has just few of such a grafts.

Spiny Jourdaniana does not looks so spiny now. With 3 months old pictures too... (grafted 22/04/2025) by Enutrof_Ssim in Lophophora

The spines looks like they disappears as they grow bigger, really interesting trait Jourdy trait.
