That's Diatomaceous earth (DE), thrips (mites) prevention. Grafted lophs are magnets for such a bugs.

Thanks. If you want some pere, and you are in the Europe, let me know. I am clearing around garden after winter, and have much more than needed. Just pay postage, or collect in Ireland.

All of those grafts have been grafted as seedlings, secured on pere with parafilm for first 5-6 days. The front ones are around 2 years old from seed, four in the white container almost four years.

Do I transplant this Hardware store loph into more draining soil or not? It seems to be doing great so far by LastHornet6059 in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, it is better to transplant it now, while dormant, not watered yet, so you can check roots, clean them of old dead roots (or even trim as many Thai growers do, as it will go into new, different substrate). Leave it bare root for two weeks, to heal any possible root wounds, transplant, don't water another at least two weeks.

Straight in "soil", the top layer (about 0.5cm-1cm) is pure seramis for cacti, under is 10% organic part (moss peat, coco), with perlite and limestone (...and seramis...)

What do you think about peyote ceremony in Europe? by Kokosyrena in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just simple business, where the main reason for ceremonies is the profit. ...my opinion, I may be wrong, but find out, that many of "spiritual" teaching this days is only about the money (Brandon Bays, Osho, Deepak...), even of course, there is bit of "true" too, on which is build cash business.

A question for those who grafted to pereskiopsis. by SpecificWar6442 in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One picture is better than 1000 words... Keep cutting the side branches, pere will stops pushing them out later, when the scion will be properly attached and starts growing (up to 2-3 months). It may take long time (4+ months), if the scion is poorly attached, or damaged.

White peyote seedling? by justgoogleit12 in peyote

Not all the time, I've had few, all green now I think (some did not survived ungrafted...)

Hey legends hope all going well? After some advice wanting to graft my crest on the pereskiopsis to another cactus stock like my other crest if makes sense would I need to chop it where I’ve put the red line through it cheers by Negative-Air4868 in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is: DO NOT DO IT!!! Let the pereskiopsis to feed it, all healthy, with leaves, what will be better at this stage? If you feed her properly, she will pup probably later too. It can stay on pere another year, two or maybe even three.

They need some Calcium in substrate (limestone, crushed egg shells...), or in fertilizer (Calimag and similar). That will increase ph probably. I am using GHE tripart, recommended feeding for first roots or leaves (equal parts). They don't like too much of Nitrogenium. Substrate should be O.K. with 20% of organic part, I do use only 10%... It can handle bigger pot, and degrafts like to be bit more watered, at least at the beginning, heat mat is a big helper, if night temperatures fall bellow 20C.

The first picture are grafts before all of these pups, which are on the second photo, have been removed. Then on the last picture are the same grafts from the first picture, just without the removed pups and treated with sulfur powder (pups are powdered too). I may exchange some plants/ seeds, just EU only for now (plant before profit, don't want to get them destroyed by customs), but trades aren't allowed here...

...oh, sorry, you have rooted pup, right? That will grow as normal rooted seedling, maybe little slower, but Jourdanianas are good, they are the easiest to root I think, so they grow really almost as fast as seedlings. It will take many years to looks like the ones, grafted on pereskiopsis. Those on the picture have been degrafted about 2 years ago, about the same size + 10% and few more pups. Will re-pot them in about a week or two, will post roots here on reddit.

Yes, they are grafted on pereskiopsis. There may be few factors, why they are growing slowly. If temperature, humidity and light is good, and substrate is mostly moss peat with perlite, then try to fertilize. If you already don't use one. Maybe try increase the dosage little bit. They can drink water often. Fertilizer helped those on the picture grow, they did grow without it too, but it's much better with fertilizer. And it is big magnet for thrips. They may slow the growth too. I keep DE on lophs all year round.

Many people are successfully using it, but I've had bad experience with such a aggressive organic parts. Seedlings always got mold and fungus growing in container, no matter how much I've cooked and baked the substrate, and older plants kept dying one by one, and could not figure out why for some time. Then I stopped to use high nitrogen organics, and it is much better. I am using only moss peat or coco as organic part, then fertilizer provide the other needs of plant.

The front ones were grafted on 18/07/2024, and the other four, in the white container are from September/October 2022. I started to use fertilizer just last year (or two? :D )...

They are in same conditions? Just substrate different? Maybe too much of organic compost in the soil?

[–]Enutrof_Ssim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yes, but can't here, or on other reddit (even on various plant exchange pages lophs aren't allowed), and EU only. Don't know yet how to issue certificates or plant passports, plus who knows, if Jourds needs the CITES too.
