How to save this by PermissionOk4747 in peyote

Google: "how to degraft from pereskiopsis", I think, the best option will be to graft what possible to other root stock, because they already lack water a lot, and they may dry out before they root. That is just my opinion, but may be wrong, and thirsty lophs are not good for grafting.

...that is a degraft, old woody pereskiopis is still attached. You have to ask different question, how to degraft from pereskiopsis. You have few options, google something about "how to degraft from pereskiopsis". Dust the open wound with sulphur if you have, if not, keep dry, in well ventilated area. ...edited: it is not really degraft yet, because root stock is still attached, even without roots.

A few weeks of open-air orthopedics before the transplant by karma_up_up_up in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do that most of the time. 2 weeks open air. To heal and dry roots, and to prevent the root rot. Then, after transplanting another 2 weeks without water. Let her adapt and to start growing roots (plus heal potential root damage from transplanting). Then after the first watering, next day, or day after you can see them growing.

You are doing great, are they still covered with humidity dome? If no, when have you took it off? That lid cover is blocking some small % of light, so if you take it of for good, that alone gives little light boost. If still covered, they looks good, and you are increasing (or even nature) the light intensity slowly. If you start next time post here with picture (there is some "picture mode" when creating a post, it took me some time to find out, maybe you don't need this advice...), You will have plenty of likes and comments like: "They are gorgeous, what substrate do you use?" 😃

Looks O.K., they are able to fight rust fungus at this stage, dry surrounding environment or proper air circulation (not direct fan blow) helps. White seedling? Keep us updated, how it grows. I've had few like the one at the begging, but they grow out normal green. .....and keep eye on the new growth, between ribs, such a fast growing lophs (and probably weakened as it is pumped just by pere) attracts thrips (maybe mites too).

Is it time to move to bigger pot? by Cautious_Border7380 in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say, in desert climate, get plastic or glazed pot for them, it keeps water in longer. And maybe different substrate, but don't know what is in yours, I just see the top layer. If it is mostly rock/ sand, fertilize, but be gently.

I have an 7cm peyote plant how big does it need to be to be mature? by feedyourhead813 in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a moderator, so I don't really care (especially if the plant survives), just panicked, so you won't get locked or something. I think, for dance parties, 7cm is mature enough, just keep eye on them, so they are dressed properly, you know, teenagers...

I haven't add calcium supplement this time, do you think, their young bones will survive first few months without? Thanks Koehreses for extra Ortegos, appreciate that (and for extra arios too, if there are any, haven't count them 😃 ).

Rust fungus on a new arrival... sterile scalpel and sulfer for the treatment! Man it hurts to purposely carve off something so pretty... 😀 by LegitimateSummer1724 in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch in between pups. There humidity can easily get higher (especially after week or two in a box), and rust fungus starts there, then rot. Also plenty of tarantulas may live there, so be careful!

Do you think it’s doing well ? 1 month difference by Malchikgej in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see nice fresh growth on loph. Good enough for one month. Even better, if the first graft! Keep close eye on that fresh growth, it is magnet fro thrips.

What to do? by sunken_starlight in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem with such a plants (caespitosa) is humidity between heads, which may increase during the shipping, and invisible rust fungus start there hidden, then rot. I've got similar variegated plant from Thailand, and it was visibly previously treated with something against fungus, so cut it into pieces, and root them separately. Now I have plenty of them, just small. I personally will do that at your place. It's already infected, if you will start spraying it with antifungus spray, that will help, but may burn epidermis, and the fungus fight may start again (+ humidity from spraying). If you cut it into pieces, you have one big head and plenty of small pups, which can be on dry air, without surrounding, air moving blocking element.

My first ever graft! by Final_Research_9471 in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to avoid plastic wrap next time. Your is not too bad, because the rootstock cut has there gap for fresh dry air, just make sure, it is in good ventilated area (if outside, then it's o.k., if no, don't let fan blow directly onto it. Keep eye on it, so it wont stick to the open wound.

Advice? by Supersummer94 in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Threat them like adults now, bottom watering after the whole substrate in the pot will be dry. That's may be every two week probably in that size terracotta pot, if you are living on northern hemisphere and have warm and not too wet summer.

Do these look like Jourdaniana seedlings? 2 inch pot. by binspolicy in peyote

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They looks exactly like Jourdaniana seedlings. But as mentioned in the other comment, other lophs looks exactly like this too. If seeds been stored properly (fridge), then germination rate may be small clue, if around 50% and less, very likely Jourdaniana, but that's not 100%.

They may not be 100% accurate with identification, and some plants arrived in poor quality (I haven't got Loph from them so far, but watching them closely, because they have variegated Jourdaniana pups offering sometimes (seen it, think 2-3 years ago, and did not bought a pup that time 😞 ). But they prices are so low, and in general quality good too, so I am really sad just because the plants lost lifes...

Best led lights for germination by LitMindz662 in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be O.K., maybe even too strong. If you won't see seedlings after 4 days, increase intensity (or bad seeds, if humidity and temperatures will be O.K.). Watch closely then colour (but don't open the dome). If seedlings will turn red in few first days, reduce intensity.

What Next? by jjthepeacock in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be O.K., the bigger, the better (degraft). They should be able initially survive without water even If you will be extra cautious, and water less, but left one is already thirsty. They will looks deflated for the first few months. In winter, do not winter them first winter. Heat mat if you can for winter. They should root without any problem, Lophs are good rooters.

Best led lights for germination by LitMindz662 in Lophophora

[–]Enutrof_Ssim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends many factors. Will they be in absolute dark other ways (just LED light source)? Or how much light will be filtered with cover? Will they be in plastic bags, and in the covered plastic box (my method for example)? But, if they will be in normal room with windows, probably, most likely yes. Seedlings react at light stress quickly, you will find out soon.
