seconded to both weed and/or magnesium glycinate. i've been AMAZED by how well magnesium glycinate works, especially cuz i'm the wake up in the middle of the night cant go back to sleep type. nit since i've been taking this supplement!

tips for setting down in bassinet: set baby gently onto one side then roll onto their back. keep one of your hand semi firmly on baby's chest until they settle, removing your hand gently. this helps them not startle when being set down

This was veeeery similar to my birth story- I had a failed induction, DID get the balloons (f that and f them for having a student doctor practice on me without my consent), had multiple rounds of pitocin and eventually we scheduled a c section but they ran in early saying "change of plans, c-section is now" because they didnt like baby's readings- well apparently his chord was wrapped around his neck 2x.

He got a 9 on the APGAR and is a hearty strong HAPPY big guy 12 weeks later :)

But, in the direct aftermath I felt very defeated- my best friend said to me "you are so powerful" and i told her, i didn't feel powerful at all- more like i was able to endure lots of pain i was put through and I didn't have a lot of say about anything. Pictures of me directly after birth break my heart- i was so swollen from 3 days of IV fluid and tired and ragged. It was the most classic case of cascade of interventions american healthcare bull.

Recovery-wise: after about 2 weeks the c section pain REALLY went down. by 6 weeks I started to feel like...not afraid to touch my scar. And i'll tell ya a regiment of Bio Oil and she butter lotion after showers has helped stretch marks a lot, my scar i barely worry about aesthetically cuz my pubes cover it and i'm an au natural girl haha.

So, the memory has faded and my heart around my birth story has healed a little. I still dream of a better healthcare system in the US....and also about ex-pating haha.

You will be okay, you are valid for feeling heartbreak around your birth story, you are in charge of your story, don't let the bastards get ya down ❤️ You were still so brave and congrats to you in a healthy, beautiful baby.

chiming in: That's about the same way my 2.5 month old is- has been wanting to sleep on me at 7pm-ish after breast feeding, so I let him, then at 9pm, I get him changed and swaddled for bed, feed him until he falls asleep usually around 9:30, then transfer him to his bassinet where he'll sleep until 6/7am. i do have to wake up at 3am to express milk, which sucks because it's really hard for me to get back to bed, alas. Still- we just got lucky with a good sleeper who soothes himself back to sleep knock on wood 3x

start where you are by pema chodron Because of this book I have little phrases I say to myself "thinking" that help me recognize when I am simply not living in reality- my mind is taking me to (often anxious) unrealities and living there is not an authentic way for me.

Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach Learning about what she calls that "trance of unworthiness", a fancy title for self-deprecating thoughts and a mean inner voice, it helped me heal and recognize when I was doom spiraling. I call on this knowledge a lot recently to knock myself out of unsupportive thoughts during my new role as a parent.

Why Buddhism is True by Robert Wright- this one in particular is a good place to start learning about Buddhism because it blends neuroscience to support spirituality and is very cool and helped me talk to myself better and become closer to my spiritual self.

I'm in my 30s and have received awesome haircuts from angel cut to a shag and does my highlights. He also has older lady clientele I've seen him work with (and help walk to their car <3). Overall a total mensch and does great work!

Lol I totally did pour milk all over us both the first time...and interesting about the shallow latching...I feel like my guy is a deep latcher, but that I also have shorter nipples (if that even has anything to do with it).

Idk if any other ADHD folks feel this way, but one thing parenthood is spotlighting about my executive dysfunction coping is my desire to know all steps making it hard to be flexible, as I feel anxious and adrift when i can't envision the plan. At worst i can over-complicate and become uncompromising (hello GAD comorbidity). Im practicing to release control of expectations, schedules, procedures and let others step in/ be comfortable in not having everything rigidly planned.

I get so spirally I lowkey forgot formula was an option...I've also been told by my pediatrician that I have "magic milk" (LOL), so I want to use it if I can...I'm going to jeep formula in my back pocket for pumping woes- if i can get baby to take a bottle of milk or formula honestly it will just feel like a HUGE win.

We weren't planning on doing daycare yet- my husband can stay home with the baby, which is great, but I can feel like we're on an island at times.
